Dr. Seiff and his Staff have been assisting me in managing a hemifacial spasm for years. I've been receiving quarterly Botox injections to insulate and lessen the significant eye and facial twitch/tick due to prior nerve damage some 30 years ago. The other option is brain surgery so I continue with this bandaid approach. Dr. Seiff is now the 3rd specialist I have seen for this condition. He by far takes the most critical approach during visits and has been improving the treatment outcomes while lessening the possible side effects of prolonged Botox injections. This is a very busy practice and there are often wait times, but when Dr. Seiff does see you, you have his undivided attention and expertise. read more

Extremely disappointing experience--I raised a concern about the long commute for my follow-up care and was met with a condescending response, followed by the doctor yelling at me and asking me to leave when I stood up for myself. Patients deserve to be treated with basic respect, especially when discussing their own medical care; I left feeling completely disrespected and would not return. Do better next time for the patients who have no idea who YOU really are! You're disgusting and appalling. You should be embarrassed to show that kind of behavior in a professional setting. Gross. Beware he is also terribly late to his appointments. It's called time management Dr. Seiff!! I was on a lunch break and he was an hour late !! He's also an arrogant prick. Dr. Seiff performed ptosis surgery on my eyes about 9 days ago. I experienced a little bruising and some swelling for the first week. However, following his instructions helped to subside the side effects gradually and I look semi-normal today. I read about his bedside manner in these reviews before I selected him. There were many references about his arrogance. Dr. Seiff is not a warm and cozy doctor. He's direct, and focused on healing the patient. His approach may not be for everyone. However, personally I prefer a highly recommended (by other doctors) and capable surgeon above other concerns. I went to my Optometrist completely freaked out because I kept seeing gray shadows like something was floating above my eyes. I knew this could be a symptom of Macular Degeneration or detached retina, rightly so I was in a complete panic. She gave me an exam and informed me that what I was seeing was my eyelashes (yeah go ahead snicker and laugh). Apparently because my eyelids are heavily hooded they have started with age and weight loss to droop pushing my eyelashes into my line of sight and also into the inner corner of my eyes causing irritation. She recommended Dr Seiff and off I went. I was able to make an appointment that same week. I was seen with in 3 minutes of walking into the office and my appointment lasted nearly 45 minutes. All my options were reviewed .... well the only option was reviewed, surgery. I was told there was a possibility the surgery would be covered by my health insurance as the procedure is in my case medically necessary. I was walked through the steps I needed to take and what tests needed to be performed in order to submit to my carrier for preauthorization. Got the tests done everything was submitted and BOOM approved! The only caveat is I have to wait until early August to have the procedure (I am actually okay with waiting given I will only be paying the copay and not 6k). Personally I liked Dr Seiff. He is no nonsense and he will tell you what is scientific fact and medically sound. I saw the negative reviews and its sad when people get upset over their picture being taken (standard practice in all surgical assessments concerning the augmentation of the face or body). Questions about past Botox or Filler use is relevant and not intended to insult. He asks in order to get a clear and concise idea of what the surgery may entail. Claiming to be traumatized over a pic and a couple of questions tells me you need way more than what an Ophthalmologist can provide. Lastly, every Yelp I read about a Dr there is always that one guy who whines about having to wait and the Dr not being on time with the appointment. SHHHHtuff happens dude. One time when my Grandmother woke up seeing shadows (its hereditary hence my panic) and she felt tremendous pain and pressure in one of her eyes. she kept saying she was seeing stuff floating...like dust. I immediately called her ophthalmologist who without hesitation moved around his schedule so I could bring her in. Unfortunately she lost almost 60% of her vision that day, but without treatment she would have been 100% blind. I like this doc. He was no "b.s" and graduate from UCSF. People might think he is cocky but he got the work done and that's all I cared about. I had a cyst on my eyelid, he did it right on the spot. In this review, I am voicing directly to Dr Seiff--since it's his business. I could write a short story about my traumatic experience your office, in February 2020, but will save all of us from that. The one star is for the only caring professional in the office: your very nice receptionist. First off: You have a policy that you will NOT SEE ANY patient, no matter the reason for their visit, UNLESS THEY CONSENT TO BEING PHOTOGRAPHED. There was absolutely NO reason for me to be photographed, and I wasn't comfortable consenting, but was told that you wouldn't see me without this consent. This was an upsetting welcome from your staff. I had an infection, and was desperate for treatment, so was forced to sign this. Minus one for waiting over an hour to be seen. Minus one (wish there were more to deduct), for the deliberately terse, rude, badgering, mean, daismissive, unprofessional, woman who took my health history. She seemed to be taking great joy in her psychological attempts to demean me. She should be fired. If I hadn't been so desperate to have my eyelid infection treated, I would have walked out. I have never been treated so poorly by a medical professional. Her license should be pulled. Not only that, but she TOOK MY PHOTO ON HER PERSONAL PHONE! When I questioned this, she rudely told me that she'd delete it adding "do you want me to prove it to you?" This is a very bad practice--and as far as I'm concerned, a HIPPA violation because it's a digital imprint deleted or not. You should have a designated camera. Minus one star for the cocky, know-it-all fellow MD who first examined my eye. And finally, minus one for you, Dr Seiff, for your asking me if I'd ever had Botox injections (up-sale coming, or just plain rude?), pointing out that the fellow had right diagnosis but wrong Rx (letting me know that you are the smartest), and your general attitude of superiority. YUCK! And to the readers: after waiting over an hour, I was able to observe some of his handiwork. I don't usually post negative reviews unless I really feel strongly about something, but I wanted to warn people about this doctor. Besides being arrogant with nothing to be arrogant about, he's a lousy surgeon. He operated on my bottom eyelid because it had been pulled out of shape by a cataract surgery & was watering all the time. I should have been leery when he wanted to do both eyes. He cut & sewed together the outside corner of both eyelids, thereby reducing the size of my eyes. He not only ruined the looks of them, he didn't even cure the problem. It still waters. In 2005, during the fall semester of college, my friend (who was pre-med) said my left eyeball looked funny (bulging, as if something was pushing against it). I got an MRI and they found a hemangioma (benign blood vessel tumor) the size of a golf ball that had been growing behind my left eyeball likely since infancy. It had maximized the available space and was therefore now pushing on my eyeball and the surrounding nerves, etc. I was referred to Dr. Seiff by the first doctor who examined my eye who said he is one of the best surgeons for the ophthalmic orbital and potentially ophthalmic plastic surgery I would need. Dr. Seiff is no-nonsense in his bedside manner which seems to have offended some Yelp reviewers. I personally feel much more at ease when a doctor (esp. for something as critical as surgery) does not sugarcoat. I found his honest disclaimers very clear and thorough ("there is a risk you could go blind in the eye or not be 20/20 anymore after the procedure because the eye's nerves may have grown around the hemangioma"; "your eye could have leakage/drainage issues after the procedure"; "you may need plastic surgery after the hemangioma's removed because there may be droopy skin"). The risks were outweighed by the certain threat to my vision if the hemangioma was not removed and so we proceeded with surgery. Because of Dr. Seiff's outstanding skill and perhaps some luck regarding the extent to which the optical nerves had grown relative to the hemangioma, none of the things that he warned me about happened. I went in with 20/20 and came out with 20/20 - 8 years later and I still have 20/20. I never experienced any leakage/drainage issues. He performed the surgery with such skill that although he removed a golf ball-sized hemangioma from my orbital cavity, I have a barely noticeable 1/4-inch scar that is so faint, even if I don't wear concealer people do not even notice it. They do, however, notice a small freckle on my cornea and do not hesitate to point it out. There were significant risks to my vision/physical comfort/appearance associated with the removal of my hemangioma (the largest Dr. Seiff had seen as of 2005) and he was able to achieve the best-case outcome: removal without any adverse effects. I still have 20/20; I experienced negligible pain related to the procedure; insignificant scarring/change to my appearance; good and nearly painless recovery. Dr. Seiff is a gem of a surgeon and I was fortunate to be in such good hands. I like his straightshooter style and recommend him highly. read more

Wow! Reading the prior negative reviews makes me think, Did we all see the same Dr.?. Yes, he's arrogant as a prior reviewer said, but think about that for a second. You wouldn't want a Dr. walking in and saying "Oh, I don't know if my skills can fix that"! He has a heavy patient load, yes but I think that goes to show how sought after he really is. I am really happy with him and my surgery. It changed my life for the better. The only negative thing that I can say is that there was a mix up with me paying for it and the insurance covering it too. That's not the Dr.'s fault, its his billing departments. Dr. Seiff is bar none the best eye doctor and surgeon in the Bay Area. I have been under his care on and off since 2001 when he was with UCSF for Graves related eye disease where he meticulously addressed every concern and need related to my eyes with a thorough plan from prevention through care and post-care explaining the risks and benefits and made sound, careful recommendations at every turn. He is an expert in his field, a highly knowledgeable doctor and skilled surgeon, and demonstrates thoughtfulness through his thoroughness and professional recommendations. He saw me through radiation treatment, talked me through my interest in ocular decompression surgery, and performed outpatient reconstructive lid surgery in 2013 to my left eye with outstanding results. The surgical center was on time, clean, the staff caring and professional. I highly recommend Dr. Seiff to anyone needing eye care or surgery. What a disaster. I was referred to Dr. Seiff by my dermatologist. I showed up fifteen minutes early to my first appointment as requested. The office had a strange vibe to it as it did not seem to be a professional office, much less a trusted doctor's facility. After waiting more than 45 minutes past my appointment time, I inquired as to how much longer my wait might be expected. When told that there were two patients ahead of me and that "the doctor never short changed his time with other patients" I informed the attendant that I would be leaving as I did not have time to further wait. Perhaps the Doctor should have enough respect for his patients to not ridiculously over book his schedule. I will never be back. read more

My young son went to ER for prolonged sharp eye pain. The ER doc told me to follow up the next day with our pediatric ophthalmologist. Our ophthalmologist was out of town for the long weekend, so it would be 6 days before we could see him. Dr Seiff was covering call for him. So on the Friday evening of a long weekend, at 6:30pm, Dr Seiff and his team, who specializes in big complex cases like removing cancer from eyelids and rebuilding tear ducts, stayed 30 minutes late to make time for a scared little boy with a hurt eye and his worried mama. His front office staff was friendly and efficient. His nurse Nadia was so kind and gentle. His assistant doctor immediately built a rapport with my reluctant young son and conducted a thorough exam despite his squirminess. And Dr Seiff himself explained the results and patiently took the time to assuage all my worries. All this late on a Friday night. Nadia must have made quite a impression, because in an inappropriate yet hilarious moment, as we were checking out, my little guy asked her "so, what's your phone number?" :) Dr Seiff and his team have my deepest gratitude! read more

Here I am again, unable to stop myself from telling whomever needs to see a REALLY EXPERT AND CARING surgeon specializing in all eye issues/endocrine (Grave's), that you need not look any further. So I took the time today to read all of the reviews. Yes, I understand that some have to wait (never did I have too wait ANY more than 40 minutes - the most recent visit, I waited 3 minutes, and I kid you not). I work in healthcare, and knew of Dr. Seiff 20 years ago. He may come across as brittle and neutral, but let me tell you something: not ONLY is he super caring of all patients (and his staff, whom he treats as family), but he also volunteers his time, if he is asked to "help" tough cases and does this free of charge, to assist and save someone in distress. He changed my life in removing my "lower lids" which were really tough to see, but he also does cosmetic facial things such as Botox, fillers etc. I had previously gone to a clinic that does nothing but that - while they were fine, what makes him stand out, is that he offers cheaper products that are as effective, and never over does a procedure. It is a win/win situation at all times! This doctor is not after your money. He is after the "most effective and most ideal option" for any patient he consults with, and is good at everything - from surgery to cosmetic. A true artist and passion about his craft. I need to also emphasize, that his staff members (family to me now), Nadia, Danielle and Tania are superb. They will do anything to help, and are so present every time with you. I have seen them go above and beyond for patients; and again, I have heard Dr. Seiff always avail himself to those in need, even if the schedule says "no". I waited for a half hour to see Dr. Seiff, and then inquired as to how much longer the wait was. I was told that there were SEVERAL new patients ahead of me and that new patients usually take more time. Another patient in the waiting room said he had been waiting for an hour and he typically waits way longer to see this doctor. There is no way I'd wait 1.5 to 2 hours to see this doctor. If you find yourself in Dr Seiff office. Promptly turn around and RUN as fast as you can out! He RUINED my life. I'm literally now on anti depression medicine since he disfigured my eye/ face. Let me start this review right... He is very booked so I waited 3 months to see him. God I wish I hadn't. We scheduled my surgery, and the whole time he had this arrogant confidence like this was changing a tire. Well needless to say my sugery went WAY WRONG, and my eye was left WIDE open and not able to shut with tears of blood dripping, so we had an emergency surgery 2 days later. That also didn't work, so 2 weeks later he did yet another,and another, and another and yes still yet ANOTHER! What he said was an easy surgery he does everyday has taken 1 whole year, and 6 surgeries and my vision is worse plus I'm disfigured my eye looks so crazy that people actually walk up to me on a daily basis and ask me what happend. I use to wear contacts, but thanks to Dr Seiff I can no longer wear them and have had to buy glasses. He left my eye so open that it waters 24/7 and the contact lens just swims around in my eye. If he was half as good as he thinks he is then yes I'd say go to him, but in fact he isn't I'm living proof he makes mistakes and he makes MAJOR ones. Please I'm begging all of you strangers meet with me before you see him, look at what he did to my eye/ face and let me suffer for you, you do the smart thing and go to someone else, literally anyone, even a dentist would be a smarter move then letting him near your eyes. Dr. Seiff provided the worst medical experience I've had in my life. And, I've had multiple surgeries, procedures, and consultations for numerous ailments over years. Arrogance doesn't begin to describe this guy. But, if that were the only issue, then, fine. But, his description of the possible effects of my procedure were so poorly correlated with my own experience that I was literally in disbelief. More than that, after the procedure, when my eye was SWOLLEN shut, with swollen, impaired, blurry and teary vision and numbing pain that lasted 3 weeks (he said "I'd have my contacts in the next day" - and that's a quote). He 100% changed his tune about what he said in the consultation. He backtracked, and said, "Well, it's like touching skin on a burning stove". What?!? That description was NEVER ONCE mentioned in the consultation beforehand when I asked about possible side effects. I truly wish I had recorded him, but his words are etched in my mind. BOTTOM LINE: it's been almost 18 months and my eye is still not recovered from the effects and tears up constantly (another side effect that was NEVER mentioned). If even just one person reads this and decides to go elsewhere, than I feel like I've helped someone out and saved them from a possible horrible experience. read more

i don't usually write long reviews, but because this is for a dr. and people might actually look to this for prospective surgeries, i will try my best to be as detailed as possible. so, i'm averaging my office visits and surgery experiences into one 4-star rating. appointment #1 - 1 star - * - dr. seiff is a bit abrasive and unfriendly, and might come off as insensitive or impolite. despite all these things, he is quite brilliant and knows what he's talking about. he was half-yelling, half-lecturing. maybe he was having an off/bad day. appointment #2 - 3 star - * * * - A HUGE improvement from the first appt. he actually cracked a smile and was a lot more friendly and sociable. maybe my first appt. happened to land on his bad day or was just a fluke. it was a major difference in attitude. surgery - 5 stars - the surgery is done offisite at a surgery center. it's a great facility... really clean. he was actually humorous and funny when i met him this time. gradually, he keeps getting friendlier and friendlier. post op - 5 stars - he says that the surgery went REALLY well and that my eyes look perfect. it's his work so why wouldn't he love it? however, i totally agree and the outcome is a lot better than i have imagined. so basically, i TRUST this guy. dr. seiff is someone i would trust my eyes with in the future. he's not the friendliest, but who cares? all you need is a BRILLIANT DOCTOR whose skills you can count on and trust. oh, and if you get to know him, he has a great sense of humor. he deserves 5-stars for skills but i docked him for a bad first appt experience. and he's always booked so know that when you make your appt today, the appt date might be for a month or so later. read more

Stuart Seiff saved my @ss, talk about amazing. Not only did he stay late, i.e., 'til about 8 p.m. to see me, long after his work day would normally have ended, but he squeezed me into his surgical calendar so that he could repair my torn eyelid and tear duct not even two days after he first saw me. I can't describe the surgery in detail, but I'll say a few things: 1) he and his team were amazing; 2) the nurses, and surgical co-ordinator were impressive about accommodating my schedule and endless questions; and 3) it's less than two days after the surgery, and it doesn't even look as if I've had microsurgery on one of my eyes and tear ducts. Awesome doctor! He cut out a mole right above my eye-lid. Since eye area is very sensitive, I was very nervous about the procedure. Moreover, because it was on my face, I was very nervous about how the area will look after this mini-surgery. The procedure was COMPLETELY painless (I actually don't even remember it because I was sedated) and there was NO pain after either! And the area heeled very nicely. Bravo, doctor! I loved this guy. I had a bilateral brow ptosis repair. My results are everything I could ask for, not only cosmetically but my vision is greatly improved. I am not sure what the people who want a better bedside manner are after. When I went in for my final visit yesterday, he even shared his birthday cake with me. We were never going to be best friends, but for this give me a great surgeon over a great friend any day. I yelped Dr. Seiff to find his number to schedule a follow up appointment and was shocked to read negative reviews. First, as a fellow healthcare provider, let me say that every surgery involves risk and possible negative outcomes (that's why you have to sign your life away to have surgery!) Also, prominent providers often involve waits, sometimes long waits. The first time I saw Dr. Sieff was at UCSF (when he was there). I waited a long time, but heard him counseling a young women with a cancerous tumor who would possibly loose her eye. Even though he was behind in his schedule, he spoke to her with such caring, not rushing. I decided at that moment that since I was not in danger of LOOSING my eye I could wait. And I have, sometimes a long time. I go in knowing this and bring a New Yorker! I saw Dr. Seiff with one of the worst cases of Graves Ophthalmopathy he had seen. My eyes were bulging out of my head and facing opposite directions. I looked like Marty Feldman! I worse shaded glasses for 3 years, (so my patients wouldn't constantly ask me what was wrong with me) and had double vision. Dr. Sieff was astute and businesslike, absolutely self assured. Call it arrogance, but from the start I found it reassuring and like I had a real partner in my care. He told me he could help me which was a huge relief. Because he is a perfectionist I have had 6 surgeries with him. I am happy to report that I now have beautiful eyes, like Susan Sarandon. Actually I think my eyes are prettier than they were before I got Graves Disease. Dr. Sieff wants to do one more surgery (as I said he is a perfectionist) because my eyelids are a millimeter different. I am waiting for this one. I do have eye tearing, he is not sure why. My eyes are sensitive and I use eye drops frequently and eye lube at night. But, I am so thankful that I met Dr. Seiff and that he was able to make me look normal again. In addition he referred me to another wonderful surgeon (Dr. William Good) who was able to make my eyes look forward. I still see Dr. Seiff reglarly, he does an amazing job with lip filler! DOES NOT OVERDO like so many Marin County cosmetic people. All in all I love Dr. Seiff. But, this is eye surgery, they cannot guarantee the process, they are human. read more

The reason I registered on yelp is I wanted to say something about Dr. Seiff. For our family, he is not only a doctor, but a hero because he changed our lives. He did surgery for my kid one and half year ago, so far so good. I made my next appointment for the earliest time I could get as I realize that the appointments may get pushed back later in the day as the doctor may spend more time with some patients than planned. I had to wait 2 months to get a morning appointment. Again, I had to wait 1 1/2 hours and had to leave as I had a meeting that I needed to attend. It takes me about 1/2 to get to his office, so that is 2 1/2 hours of wasted time (not to mention parking fees!) This doctor has absolutely no respect for his patients' time. Why bother to schedule appointments if you have no intention of keeping them. I will not be back. There are a lot of good doctors in the area and this guy is definitely not worth putting up with his arrogant attitude. read more

Dr Seiff is the absolute BEST at what he does. From the first consult to the finished result I have felt extremely confident letting him care for my infant. He also has an excellent bedside manner. My wife and I both really appreciated the time he took explaining options and why his recommended course of action was the best option. Had tumors taken out of both eyes. Dr. Seiff explained everything in detail in language that you can understand. Procedure went well and am extremely happy with the results. I had my eyelids done. Warning, unless you really really need it done, and are willing to take a huge risk of bad results, DO NOT DO IT. How about one year of misery during healing/recovery time? How about The constant feeling of something being stuck on, and something else stuck under, your eyelid? How about the degradation of vision in both of your eyes so bad that eye glasses will be required for the first time in your life? How about having to wait an hour and forty minutes to see the doctor... repeatedly? How about trying to get scheduled when you won't have to wait over an hour and a half, and being told they can't do that, unless I want to drive from Marin to San Mateo, and then maybe. Otherwise, the attitude was I should screw off and wait in line. This was the biggest mistake EVER. And forget informed consent... There won't be any. UPDATE: Now it's been over two years since my eyelid procedure. I get daily discomfort in one of my eyelids, all day, every day. It doesn't work properly. It "catches" as it moves. Feels like something is irritating my eye on the inside of the eyelid. It also feels like there is something on the outside of the eyelid - but there is nothing there. My eyesight is permanently degraded in both eyes. Another ophthalmologist told me it is definitely a result of the procedure done by Dr. Seiff, that the procedures changed the shape of my eyes. But it's not just poor vision - it's also artifacts in my visual field. Take note - your doctor will not be telling you that any of this is a risk of the procedure. He didn't tell me. read more
