I am happy to have found my primary care doctor. He is really funny and knows how to have a conversation without making you feel uncomfortable. His location is great for me - that i don't need to take any sick day to see him - walking disctance 4 min He is not giving away of pills/antibiotic easily for several purposes: it is not good to get used to those drugs anyway. i like it. He is always gentle and nice. Now they implemented this new website to the patient. It is easy access to the doctor - i ask question via email and i get test result through this website. very convenient. I've been seeing Dr. Lewis for about 6 months and granted, I haven't been really sick in that time, but I'm totally impressed both by his caring manner and his high tech system. It's about time that doctors emailed you your results and you can get appointment reminders online. He has a very personal and caring manner. I am so glad and grateful to have Dr. Stuart Lewis as my primary care physician. I've seen him for four years. He is thoughtful, caring and a fine diagnostician. He works as part of the Concorde Medical Group and is affiliated with NYU Hospital. The office runs like a dream - the staff is courteous and efficient. I've rarely waited more then 10 minutes for my appointment. I usually loathe using online medical portals for questions and prescriptions, but my request is responded to within a day's time. In addition, if a referral is needed, Dr. Lewis has access to the other fine doctors of the Concorde group as well as access to the services of NYU. I had an office visit, was referred to NYU for X-rays, and the entire process took less then two hours. Definitely 5 stars. read more

Dr. Lewis's office is modern and well-equipped. The initial paperwork is done on tablets digitally, so no clipboard with a million papers! The check-in process was very easy, which I really appreciated. Dr. Lewis himself is kind and knowledgable- I felt that I was in good hands. He later wrote to me himself with the results of a test I needed (within just a few days). I'm from WI and I thought I was going to have to get used to a lower standard of care in NY. I was a patient of Dr Lewis for several years, recommended by a coworker. Around about 2006 my toes felt numb; I brought this to his attention and he dismissed it as a possible pinched nerve. Fine; he's the doctor. Well, the toes got gradually number over the course of the next year; I kept mentioning it (except when I forgot). Finally, in 2007, having looked online for possible causes, I insisted I be checked for diabetes, and what do you know, I had it! Plus the foot neuropathy (which is what the numbness was) was now advanced and my blood sugar was almost 400. Had he made a proper diagnosis or even just humored me when I first mentioned it, it could have been treated a lot sooner and maybe my feet wouldn't hurt as much as they do and I wouldn't be on two diabetes meds and have heart issues as well. Thanks a bunch, Doctor Lewis. I would never , never, never recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr. Lewis is a wonderful doctor, he was my doctor for 14 years. Unfortunately dealing with his front desk receptionist has become impossible, the breaking point was when his receptionist called me back to tell me she didn't like or appreciate my voicemail. My voicemail, requesting a refill for my husband, which she promised to call in 3days ago, which the pharmacy confirmed that they also called and made the request several times. This is the 2nd incident with the front desk, I have decided to change doctors. read more

I've been going to Dr. Lewis for five years and have always really liked him. He's thorough, kind and careful about giving out prescriptions. About a year ago, his fantastic office manager, Adam left and since then, it's been impossible to get in to see him. I was violently ill in December and over the course of a week called every day, begging and pleading for the first open appointment. The wait was two weeks. New office manager never called me back as promised, and I ended up going to a medi-clinic where I found out I was having a bad reaction to a supplement I was taking. The new office manager was rude and condescending, not to mention abrasive and never actually did her job of securing me an appointment. She's completely incompetent. Just called to make an appointment for my annual check up (unfortunately, same rude office manager) and the wait is 7 weeks. SEVEN. WEEKS. I flat out told her I might need to find a new doctor and she didn't care. Still SEVEN WEEKS for a physical. I can't. I love Dr. Lewis but I need a doctor who I can actually get in to see. A seven week wait (and not being able to get in when I need him) means he's really not a great doctor. I strongly sense this is the result of the change in staff (or perhaps a symptom of having a staff that doesn't know your clients) because this never used to happen with Adam. If I was sick, he'd get me in there within 24 hours. read more

Dr Lewis is like having an amazing small town doctor in a big city. He is in-netwok with insurances, and though that usually belies a shortened attitude with doctors to their patients, Dr Lewis still takes the time and care to humanly diagnos medical concerns and listens carefully to what is happening. I have been seeing him for over ten years, and have never found him to be anything short of brilliant, personable and professional. He remembers his patients and has always called me personally to follow up when things have been serious enough to warrant that. At my most recent visit, I saw him for sinus infection. Not only did he prescribe an antibiotic, but he also prescribed acidophilis and reminded me to use my neti pot. This sort of modern east west thinking is not only rare and wonderful, it is effective and well thought through. He is a gem and a lovely person. I highly recommend him. read more

I finally left this practice after 3 years and it wasn't soon enough. I agree that Dr. Lewis himself is kind and has a good bedside manner but there are SIGNIFICANT problems that merit one star, none if it was an option. 1. Communication is horrible. He has a great online portal but messages rarely get answered and when I ask questions about my physical exam results, I expect answers...which I never got and my last exam was in May and it's Dec now. Of course I'd call but then I'd have to deal with the office manager. And, it would have been nice if there was some outgoing message about the status of the office after Hurricane Sandy instead of leaving me searching for a new doctor in order to get a prescription refilled since I only get 3 refills at a time! 2. The woman who took over is unfriendly (not mean and there is a difference) and abrupt, especially on the phone. Additionally, I don't think she is that sharp and I'm not asking about rocket science when I book appointments or ask to leave messages. Adom (the previous manager) was much better. 3. Getting in WHEN sick was IMPOSSIBLE. How can a doctor never accommodate an unforeseeable sick patient within 48 hours is beyond me and I'd always get so mad every winter when I got super sick. It was pointless to even bother calling this year and I knew I had to change. 4. At my new doctor's, I realize that I didn't get urine tests during my anuual physical exams and that is very important since urine can be indicative of things going awry before the blood tests disclose the problem. I mean, isn't that the whole point of an annual to check you out before problems arise or fix the problems that do? Well, thankfully I left and found another one that takes both urine and blood tests, calls me back and has a great office staff. read more

I'd give Dr. Lewis himself about three stars, but I have to agree with some of the other reviews here that his office is one of the worst run I've ever experienced. It is next to impossible to call up when you're feeling sick and get an appointment to come in (and isn't the point of having a doctor you see regularly to be able to get help when you're actually ill?) I was recently very sick and tried to come in and they said I had to wait a day. I made an appointment, but felt so badly I ended up seeing another doctor that day and got a prescription. When I called Dr. Lewis's office back to cancel my appointment, they wanted to charge me $30 to cancel (so basically I paid $30 to have my doctor NOT help when I was sick). Dr. Lewis has also asked for expensive tests to be done from time to time (cardiograms, CAT scans) but then no one from his office ever calls to follow up about the results or implications, and I've had to spend time chasing them down. In general, if someone were to ask whether or not they should see Dr. Lewis I'd tell them to go elsewhere. read more

Dr.Lewis is a nice guy, but I can't help to feel that he doesn't really care about his patients. I've been having the same issue for a few months and he hasn't been able to narrow it down. His front desk person is awful and even messed up my co pay. I was shocked to see I had a balance even though I always pay my co pay. When I confronted her about it she only said "Well..it says you didn't.". I'm sad to say I am leaving Dr.Lewis hoping to find someone with a little bit more knowledge. He is a great doctor as long as you don't have anything wrong with you. read more

Great doctor - compassionate, knowledgeable, open-minded and ready to deal with many types of conditions. I've seen a lot of doctors in NYC who seem to be moving patients down a production line, but it's obvious that he really cares about his patients and sees each as an individual. I've been seeing Dr. Lewis since 2003 and have found him to be the perfect GP for me. He's obviously a practitioner of traditional Western medicine and knows when medicine needs to be prescribed or an issue needs to be elevated to a specialist, but he is also very practical and open-minded to other non-traditional solutions (e.g. suggesting neti pot instead of antibiotics for a sinus infection). He'll happily talk through the pros and cons of both the traditional and non-traditional. Dr. Lewis also has great bedside manner. I definitely recommend him. read more

I've seen Dr. Lewis off and on for over five years. He's a pleasant man with an gentle way about him. He's totally by the books, so forget trying to get sleeping pills, pain killers, or any other controlled substances so easily. I think he's one of the few doctors left who'll hold back on filling out prescriptions for kick backs. Nice office in Soho. A little cramped but still comfortable. I don't get the previous review about not having an appointment with his office. I get one every single time...and I see him a lot because my insurance requires PCP referrals. All in all great. I gave him 4 stars because his original office on Crosby Street was kick ass! His new location on Broadway is not as fancy...that's the recession for you. read more

Dr. Lewis is awesome, I have absolutely no complaints with him. He's kind and he listens. He lost that 5th star because of Damaris, his receptionist. She is quite rude, has a terrible presence on the phone, and speaks to you as if she's doing YOU a favor. Her follow-up is deplorable. On two separate occasions, she failed to update my records, one for a cancelled appointment, and one for a referral. If I could make my own appointments, I would. I was disappointed when Adom left, he was terrific. I hope he finds someone new - soon. read more

Absolutely the best doctor I've ever had! I'm reluctant to write this review because I think he's one of NYC's best kept secret. His office is small but perfectly adequate to meet his patients' needs. The phone is usually answered on the 2nd ring, the receptionist is well informed and efficient, and appointments are easy to come by. I've rarely had to wait more then 10 minutes. Dr. Lewis is quiet/reserved, listens well, takes his time, and professional. The doctor knows me well and stays informed on my issues. It is true that he is reluctant to prescribe pills but neither is he one of those anti-Rx doctors that are common in NYC (aka holistic doctors). I have a rare medical condition that the doctor keeps well-informed on (I have a specialist but she's useless) so I really appreciate his extra effort to work with me on it. There were a few times when I needed immediate attention (strep throat, food poisoning, etc.) and I was able to make a "walk-in" appointment the same day. And yes, they have a new secure, online system for their patients. read more

I had to wait 6 weeks for the next availble appt. Within that waiting period they failed to mention MOVING OFFICES. Never was able to get a hold of anyone at the office or get a call back. It gets better- they just sent me a $75 bill for a no-show. This is on the staff for scheduling an appointment and not advising a patient of an office move. Hopefully someone will answer my call! They haven't so far. No chance I'm paying this $75. read more

He treats each situation with a practical, no-nonsense approach - he is not one of those doctors who over-prescribes meds. every time you walk through the door. Dr. Lewis himself is fine. I give him 4 stars. He has a kind manner and is thorough in his questions for you during a routine checkup. However the administration in his office is extremely poor. Only 1 star. During my routine checkup, he asked me if anything was bothering me. I told him my knee had been sore lately because I started running. Then he sent in my cholesterol blood work as a related to my knee diagnosis! Medical lab billed me for $130 since it was not billed as 'routine' or 'preventative'. Called Dr. Lewis office 4 different times in the last week. Damaris his office secretary is very unhelpful, demeaning, and never calls you back. She refuses to look into the matter or to do anything to fix the situation. Now after 3 phone calls to Aetna, 2 calls to Sunrise Medical Labs, and 4 calls to Dr. Lewis' office, I am still stuck with this bill. All because I went for a routine checkup and happened to say my knee was sore. Save your time and find another office that cares enough to code things correctly. read more
