Antico's has seen many an incarnation since then, but it's always remained a supplier of quality fruit and veg at prices a little on the high side (their housemade salad mix features edible marigolds and violas, if that's any indication of gastronomic clout). Most recently, they've expanded to include a full cured and fresh meat section complete with dangling salami and giant legs of ham waiting to be carved to order. Though produce is always fresh and they stock a range of harder-to-find items - like lamb's lettuce, shimeji mushrooms and Thai eggplants - the prices are just too high to do the bulk of my shopping here. In the deli section, a 200 gram pot of bircher muesli is $6, while a small bag of paella rice is a whopping $10. I will pop in here if I'm after a foodie gift at the last minute, as their range of pantry goods include the aesthetically pleasing Simon Johnson products with walnut oil and tarragon vinegar aplenty.

This store was originally near Martin Place before relocating too much larger premises in Westfields Sydney. The new store is absolutely amazing. The fit out is breathtaking and definitely up to world standards (think Opening Ceremony in Tokyo or Colete in Paris, only slightly more conservative in aesthetic). The product assortment is beautifully curated. The last time I was there the lady that served me was really helpful. I was looking to buy a shirt. She showed me the whole collection and explained the differences in each of the shirts. Her knowledge of the products they sell was incredible. They take a very service orientated approach to sales, which I love. They even offered me a cup of tea or coffee while I was viewing the collection. I will definitely be coming back. Very highly recommended.

The Bass people is on Parramatta road in Annandale. Its a shop that's recently sparked my interest…read moresince I became interested in playing the bass a few weeks ago-hopefully this won't be another fad in high school, but I guess only time will tell. The shop's set out in two distinct parts, the first room has a selection of basses ranging from 950 upwards (although after to speaking to a sales assistant it seemed there were a few more out back that were also not on display), instructional DVDs and CDs by a collection of bass artists. The second room houses alot of their bass amps, more basses and a few acoustic basses too. I think the sales assistants could smell I was a newbie, as I think they're used to dealing with alot of detailed questions and more experienced players, but one of the younger helpful guys, provided alot of assistance as I was trying to select a good beginner instructional DVD. A good shop for some experienced advice from the bass people.

There are some fun, quirky and kitsch products and it is a good store to browse if you are in need of gift ideas. The store was set out very neatly and all the stock was quite accessible to pick up and touch, nothing was hiding or obscured from view. Everything was quite reasonably priced too. The staff were friendly enough to exchange pleasantries but were more interested in talking to each other than paying attention to the person at the counter.
