And chances are, you'll have some fancy new threads to show off. There's always so much happening at Westfield Sydney. Buskers in the mall, a sale at Zara, a new line of watches at Tag Heuer, or a new pair of Connies has come out at Hype. Either way, you'll never be short of something to buy, or something to look at. It doesn't matter which end or side of town you work in, you're never far away from Westfield Sydney; even if it's just to join the stampeding herds in the food court under Myer. Being a shopaholic, I could burn up a fortnights pay here in one go; and just keep rambling around until my bank card ran away screaming, or the bank just gave me the big thumbs down. Some may find the way the interior's decorated a tad too shiny, but I think that adds to the opulent atmosphere that you should expect from a shopping centre towards the upper-end of the spectrum. Be warned that you may spend sometime finding what you're after; but once you have, all will be right with the world... that's while your left trying to work out which arm to carry that extra bag on.

It was located near the north end of Hyde Park at the NW intersection of Market St and Castlereagh St. It was easy to spot from far away with the Sydney Tower Eye. The mall was huge where you can easily get lost inside. Thankfully, they had good signage at the escalators. Just from a little bit of window-shopping, there were plenty of high-end stores. You can go up the Sydney Tower Eye from the 5th floor. There were restaurants on several floors. I ate at Yayoi up on the 6th floor.

They generally have great customer service and I must say probably the best return policy I have ever seen. I actually saw someone return an item that was over 10 years old (with receipt) and staff graciously took it and refunded the money. Good on them. It's the normal DJ's with department store layout catering for most things you could desire. Neat and tidy. The food section is one of my favourites. Often I find some of the best deals in the sale section. My first port of call. lol

It was also a nice walk down memory lane to visit. Kmart was part of my youth growing up, having a store within walking distance during my pre-driving days. Unfortunately, they were on a slow than faster decline, culminating in their closing their last mainland US store in 2024. But here in Australia, they continue to be a large presence, with 214 total stores, 52 in New South Wales. I was curious about the history of Kmart in Australia: -- first one opened in 1969, as a joint venture between Kmart US and Coles Meyer Australia, with Kmart US owning 51% -- in 1978, Kmart US traded its share in Kmart-Australia for a 20% share of Coles. -- in 1994, Kmart US solds all of its shares, making a Kmart-Australia a completely separate entity. I did buy something here: been looking for Pokemon trading cards for my daughter, and found a collector set here with many expander decks for retail price. Pokemon cards seem to be popular again, and haven't been able to find any without significant markup. Checkout was self, but I needed a lot of help since the item was security secured. They also scan your receipt for any purchased items as you leave the store. Wouldn't say the workers would add to the stereotype of Aussies being so friendly. Didn't see any 'blue light specials' when I was there. Later learned that they had them very early in their existence in Australia, but they went away once it broke away from the US mothership.

It's my favourite (but not healthy) It is so tasty with egg, bacon, hash brown, cheese, tomato and a spicy relish served bursting at the seams in a toasted bun. Coffee is good and that's what counts! Aesthetically its pretty ugly and I think you can get a little stir crazy if you spend too long i the centre, but for convenience it's pretty good.... Definitely worthy of a browse.

Look, while I'm not a big fan of shopping centres, this place does certainly have some charm about it. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen - stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists - in a worthwhile project. The Stained Glass The visual message of Sydney's coat of arms on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship - trade, and the dolphins - the harbor. Panel 1 (on the left-hand side) represents the Council of the City of Sydney and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B., on panel 3 (on the right), represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB in 2009. The symbols are of property developers - the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building, and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. The Queen's Secret Letter There is a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney, to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. My experience: This is the second time I have visited this building and on the second time, I found even more hidden historical things of note. The shop is nicely laid out too with a boutique-y table set in the centre under a chandelier and embroidered chairs by the changing rooms. Shopping here makes you feel pretty special!
