As first-time home buyers, we were referred to Structure Tech by our real estate agent as one of his three top provider choices for home inspection services. After visiting their informative and well-designed website, we decided to contact them first. The booking process was seamless. Communications from Structure Tech were prompt, even though the initial contact was made after hours and on a weekend. We were able to select from several available times within our contingency window, and even given the option to request a specific inspector (since we were newbies, however, we took pot luck). Tessa Murry was our inspector, and she was an absolute pleasure to work with. She arrived early to meet us at the site, and immediately we knew we were in good hands; this was definitely not her first rodeo. From the get-go, when she started pulling all kinds of stuff from her car trunk, we were both impressed and entertained: out came three fully-loaded tool belts, two ladders, a full-size camera, a heavy-duty face mask, a flashlight or two, along with assorted tape measures, levels, etc. Tessa's approach to the actual home inspection was thorough and professional. She started on the roof and worked her way down to the basement foundation and mechanicals, photographing, documenting, explaining her process, and answering our many questions all along the way over the course of a more than four-hour inspection. Tagging along with her as she walked and crawled and climbed all over our house was definitely an education, good exercise, and fun, too! Since we were already halfway through a 7-day contingency period when the inspection took place, it was important to us to get Structure Tech's inspection results as quickly as possible. Tessa must have worked all night, because her 40-page report, fully illustrated with numerous photographs and prioritized recommendations, was in our email the very next morning (time-stamped 1:00 AM!). Structure Tech's website proudly acknowledges, "we are not the cheapest home inspection provider out there." This was actually a selling point for us, because we believe, as the saying goes, "only the rich can afford to buy cheap." And indeed, it was money very well spent: armed with Tessa's inspection report's clear and indisputable findings, our subsequent negotiations with the sellers ultimately led to a sizeable reduction in the selling price! Structure Tech more than exceeded our expectations. Wanting to be sure of what we were taking on with reconfigure/remodel plans after making a purchase offer on a house (built 1920) we wanted a home inspector with longstanding experience in identifying the problems, intricacies, and concerns of purchasing an older home. Mindy Barnhill accommodated an appointment to our calendar/time needs, and emailed an agenda of what to expect during the inspection. Home Inspectors Reuben Saltzman and Sean Patterson showed up on time, then spent over four hours diligently, methodically, and thoroughly investigating every nook and cranny of the house, including crawling deep into the attic and going all the way up to the top of the roofline. We were allowed to follow them throughout the inspection, and they patiently addressed our numerous questions with unbiased feedback. Joe Whitters of Drain Busters (subcontracted out by Structure Tech to do the sewer scope) arrived on time. He located an extremely hard to find water main, then came back the next day to complete the sewer scope without extra charge. We were given a thumb drive video of the sewer line immediately after the scope was completed. The detailed 56 page Home Inspection Report that Reuben typed, including colored photos highlighted with note marks, was sent to us less than 24 hours after the inspection took place. This almost 100 year old house had already revealed some of its ailments to us upon our own walk through, but we would not have been made aware of the many more important issues without the deep and thorough inspection Reuben and Sean accorded it. I used Structure Tech for the inspection on my first home based on their high reviews, and I couldn't have been happier! They are more expensive than many inspectors, but you definitely get what you pay for in this case. Scheduling and payment were painless. I used the form on their website and was contacted within the hour to set up the inspection. They had a cancellation for the next day, so I was able to get my inspection right away. I set up payment online prior to the inspection, and there was a button to authorize the payment on my card before reading the report online. The actual inspection went very well. My inspector was Duane. He was incredibly thorough. The sellers had done their own inspection and Duane caught several items that their inspector did not. Rather than operating off of a checklist, he seemed to be operating off of decades of fundamental knowledge of construction techniques and building codes. It was not only an inspection, but a lesson in how the house works. He was able to explain why certain things were problematic, what should be done to remedy them, and the reasoning behind the code requirements. The report was sent out about 6 hours after the inspection was complete, giving me plenty of time to look it over before I needed to get back to the sellers with a list of issues to be addressed. The report including many photos of problem areas as well as some diagrams of how it should look and links to pages on their website that describe why this is a problem and how it should be done. This was the first inspection I've ever had, but many people who I told about the inspections were in awe of his thoroughness relative to the inspections they've had done. read more

The large amount of 5 star reviews don't lie! We got an accepted home purchase offer on a Saturday night and requested a home inspection for Monday morning. By the Sunday morning we had gotten confirmation we were scheduled for the next day, received payment request, and any other information we needed. Sunday evening our inspector Jim texted me to see if we had any questions or specific non-routine things we wanted him to take a look at. When we met him Monday morning to walk through the house with him we were blown away at how knowledgeable and confident he was about pretty much every aspect of the house. He was immediately willing to admit anything he didn't have expertise on and for those things he recommended having a more specialized company come do an analysis for us. I really appreciate people being honest when they aren't certain about something instead of bluffing. We had our inspection report emailed to us the evening of the same day the inspection was done which was very appreciated due to our short inspection window. I have full confidence Jim would be willing to explain or talk us through understanding anything on the report. The report itself is beautifully designed and laid out, included many images, and also includes a ton of helpful links to education articles about various issues/maintenance items that were found in our inspection. Structure Tech are a fantastic company providing terrific quality of service in a very efficient and prompt manner. We have a new construction and are using Jeff Corniea to inspect at all 3 stages from pre dry wall inspection, pre-closing inspection and the 11 month warranty stage. We only contacted Structure Tech on Tuesday and Kim was brilliant in providing a quote immediately and connecting me to Jeff straight away. He was able to inspect the house next day and provided the report that I could share with my construction manager John Karnatz from Robert Thomas Homes. I would highly recommend Structure Tech and plan to use them in the future! I had a fantastic experience with Structure Tech for my Truth-In-Housing inspection! They came very highly recommended by my selling agent. Milind was my inspector, and was extremely helpful throughout the inspection. He was open to however I wanted to run the inspection, either going along with him or he would just let me know when he found things he was going to comment on in his report. I chose to only review the things that he found, and he pointed out things he included in his report and things that he considered acceptable and passing but wanted to address with me before he left. I was very happy with the professionalism and fast response from the Structure Tech team! The exceptional part of my experience with Structure Tech came after the buyers completed an inspection. Their inspector indicated the Truth-In-Housing Inspection should have caught multiple issues. I was able to have Milind come back out to my home very quickly and review all of the "issues" that were documented on the buyers inspection. Milind pointed out each of the areas and explained how they were actually conforming but how simple fixes could be put in place if the buyers had a major issue with it. Matt Behrens and Structure Tech did an excellent job, and I know they saved us thousands of dollars in repairs and headaches from a home that had many defects not visible to the untrained eye. Matt took the time to walk me through the house, pointing out the small issues and possible solutions. Then when we got to the major items, he clearly explained/demonstrated each issue, and what additional experts would need to be brought in to address the various plumbing and structural problems. The money spent on that inspection was well worth it, as we chose not to purchase that home. For the next home that we found, we chose Matt and Structure Tech again to perform the home inspection. Just like the first time, Matt was prompt, courteous, and respectful to the property. He was very thorough in his evaluation, and walked me through the home to show me the issues and resolutions (this time they were all minor, thankfully). Matt's report arrived later that same day with thorough narratives and photos, and he offered to be available for any questions if we had them. I did end up having a couple of questions about one of my issues, and Matt's return call was prompt and his response was detailed. He was great to work with! My husband Taveon and I are first time home owners and are looking forward to having a family in the near future. We bought a nice size house that we are really excited about but were really nervous about the inspection and what we might find. We were blessed to have Jim Tobias and Structure Tech's new inspector Joe, inspect our soon to be home. They introduced themselves and created a very laid back yet professional vibe that personally calmed me down. First, Jim explained everything they were going to do before doing it. They got down and dirty with the inspection. They were extremely thorough and detailed. They explained their findings in a way that we could comprehend as we went along and at the end of the inspection. Jim encouraged questions and concerns very well. The lay out of the inspection report included a lot of pictures and highlighted points that were discussed during the inspection. All I know is that I am going to recommend Structure Tech to everybody I know! I get asked all the time to complete reviews and rarely do so, because well, the quality of most services out there is a 3 or 4 out of 5 and that's how most service providers are already rated. Not Structure Tech. I'd give them a 6 out of 5 if possible. They did an absolutely amazing job. They were prompt, user friendly, and very knowledgeable. I'm a knowledge hound and will pepper people with questions when I want to learn more about something. I know next to nothing about houses, so I had a lot of questions. Most people get tired after a while of answering my plethora of questions, but not Dustin, my assigned rep. We spent 9 (yes, nine) hours going through every square inch of a house I had put under contract and Dustin cheerfully and patiently answered every question. Yes it was a big old house, but even then, nine hours of work is quite heroic. The lengthy report he quickly produced within 24-48 hours (over a holiday weekend too!) explained all the issues we'd discussed, and I was later able to use that as a guide with handymen to explain what maintenance we wanted done on the home. Based on legitimate issues we found in the inspection, I was able to reduce the price by a few percent, which paid for the inspection many times over. I couldn't recommend the company more highly. read more

My inspector was Bryce Klym. He showed up a couple of minutes early and pulled his gear out, then at the appointment time explained how he would go about the inspection and told me to ask questions any time. He asked if I was a first time gone buyer, and then helped answer more questions about the inspection. My inspection was 4 hours long, and very thorough. Bryce told me everything he was doing, explained what would be the difference between cosmetic and something that requires repair or further information. I also had the Radon and sewer test done, again very informative. At the end of the inspection, he explained how the report would look, what would be included, and how quickly I would receive it. I received the report 24 hours after the inspection. For someone who knows little about homes, it was a superb inspection to me, and Bryce was extremely knowledgeable and able to explain things without making me feel stupid. Very respectable, definitely plan on calling Structure Tech for my next home inspection. Update: This is my second inspection with Structure Tech and I scores by getting Bryce again! Seriously great expertise and he takes the time to explain things at a level you'll understand!!! read more

A touch late on this review as the inspection happened almost a month ago but I wanted to post this for people to see. Matthew was our inspector, and I could not say anything bad about him at all. We had a small convoy of people with to help look at the house and also understand what would be needed for it in terms of safety and rebuild. In addition to people asking him some not so smart questions and sometimes not letting him talk first, it was also a massive house with lots of things to inspect. The inspection took 6 hours, however Matthew did not get lazy or sloppy in checking different things. He spent a good 2 hours of that time explaining things we would need to watch out for. In addition, he found 2 things that possibly could have cost us 10's of thousands of dollars to repair if we didn't get it checked out and verified things were done correctly (those checked out fine luckily but could have been bad if missed). He was super helpful, and offered to explain or come look at anything else if we found things we were concerned about. For the size of property and complexity, his fees were great. You won't be disappointed when hiring this company. read more

One-word impression: THOROUGH We got referred to Structure Tech by our realtor for inspections during our home buying process. While the inspection was not the cheapest out there, their services were worth every dollar. We got George, who was awesome in taking the time to show us findings and concerns, as well as explaining the necessary interventions. We initially had a purchase agreement on one house, though thanks to George's inspections and Antonio's follow-up testing, we were made aware of insurmountable issues and were able to dodge a bullet in cancelling the agreement. Their typed-out reports were also top-notch with photos embedded, clear markers of areas of concern, and links to documents showing how we could address issues that they saw. George did the inspection for the next house we put an offer on, and again we got quality service with an excellent report. We have had other experiences with another inspector in the past, and what we got from them did not even come close to what information we got from the Structure Tech folks. With how careful and thorough they do their inspections, we would recommend Structure Tech to anybody buying a home. read more

I was extremely impressed with the inspection that George did in June 2015 on a house that I am purchasing in Falcon Heights. They showed up early for the inspection and were "herding" ants that were going in and out of the front door metal threshold as I walked toward the house. The inspection seemed to be very thorough, with everything inspected that could be checked and/or opened. George even spotted a problem with a basement bathroom fan being ducted into a large return air duct that went to the furnace. Unpleasant smells were being defused throughout the house. I got to go along as the inspection was conducted, and they frequently brought things they were finding to my attention ... before the written report was even sent to me. Very helpful to know of problems right away when I needed a little evidence to suggest that a lower price for the house was warranted. I have heard pretty bad stories about house inspectors. Based on my experience, you will get quality and thoroughness with Structure Tech, even though you may think the price is a bit higher. I have absolutely no qualms about recommending them highly!! read more

Fantastic job. George at Structure Tech was recommended by my realtor. Inspection took around 4 hours. As a first time home-buyer and self-proclaimed novice, I took this opportunity to soak up as much as I could. I followed George around for nearly every minute of the inspection, asking all the questions that popped into my head. He answered every single one graciously, though I'm sure a good handful of them were not necessarily the most insightful. At each stop, he went through what he saw, what was good, what was bad, and some possible ways to fix the issues. It was such a relief to have an expert come through to point everything out and give an opinion on what should probably be fixed to avoid further damage to the house versus little things that I can likely do myself or take at least take some time to repair. Tidbit, do the sewer scope, especially on older houses. Joe performed the sewer scope and did an excellent job walking me through the footage, explaining things in a language I could understand, and framing the findings in the context of what needs to be done with what level of urgency. I hired Structure Tech for my home inspection because of their dozens of 5 star reviews on Yelp and at the recommendation of my realtor, who said this is the inspection company that seller's agents hate. From beginning to end they did not disappoint. I've been through the home buying process with a bad inspector and was left high and dry when major problems were found after the fact. Structure Tech looked at *literally* every inch of my prospective new home alongside my husband, taking the time to explain everything as they went along. Their report came within 8 hours of completing the inspection and was extremely detailed - I really liked how the major issues that required the most immediate attention were clearly listed at the top of the report. This is the second time we have used the fine folks at Structure Tech for a home inspection. Bryce is an absolute professional who takes time and shows genuine care through the process. He speaks plainly, honestly, and compassionately. But it's not just Bryce who was excellent (though, I can't recommend him enough), it was the whole scheduling team that helped to make everything so easy! They provide SO MUCH detail in their reports and they do a lot of follow-up care to make sure that you understand everything they found in the process. Bryce even offered to remain in contact if we had questions about his report! Plus their reports have little recommendations and how-to suggestions for small item issues that need to be addressed. We had our home inspected 4 days ago by Dustin at Structure Tech. In a few words professional, thorough, knowledgeable. Have had many homes inspected over the years and Dustin was one of, if not the best inspector. He explained everything he was doing while we went along with him. If there were issues he told us the significance of the problem or if it was not actually a problem now, but could be in the future, told us that also. We were not familiar with some of the HVAC equipment used in the north, so he taught us about that, so we could appreciate issues unique to it. At the conclusion he had additional recommendations overall on the home and told us we would have the report back after the weekend. Instead he had the report back in 18 hours. Amazing turnaround. Can recommend him without reservation. Would also like to compliment Mindy who helped us with scheduling. We were working in a tight time frame because of travel plans, but she was able to check with Dustin and get it scheduled. Overall a very nice experience working with this firm. read more
