Our first brood of hens came from Meyer Hatchery and they were beautiful, healthy birds that all outlived their life expectancies and provided eggs regularly until they passed naturally. This brood came from Stromberg's and 6 months in we have not seen the first egg. Worse, 2 of these 6 hens developed illnesses and passed away. We take good care of our birds and quarantined them at the first sign of illness but they just went downhill. This just hasn't been a healthy brood of hens and we are disappointed. We should have stayed with Meyer Hatchery. read more

this hatchery is horrendous! we ordered 110 bob white quail chick but received hatchlings instead and 34 arrived D.O.A within 48 hours the rest have died. we called and got a snide remark asking if we gave them electrolytes. they hatch eggs and ship them the next day it took 4 days to get to the post office. this place needs to be reported for animal cruelty! the breeders do not care they should have shipped 2 week old chicks and not the hatchlings do not buy from this hatchery! they don't vet their breeders apparently and they will do nothing to help you out as they want you to report losses in 24 hours! read more

Legit business if you have never heard of them, I hadn't, but it worked how it's supposed to. I think a lot of the neg reviews here are focussed on live animal issues, so this is separate from that. We ordered 3 ducklings from Strombergs. They initially said they wouldn't provide tracking information?!? And I would need to pick them up at the post office?!?! After that, I was pretty dissatisfied with them. The ducklings were delayed 4 days, but ultimately, on their delivery date, they sent tracking information, and the ducks arrived ahead of the tracking time. One duckling was very sick and passed soon after arriving, but they immediately processed a refund for us. I do think, as this company is located in MN and our ducks were shipped from California, that they are drop shipping Metzer farms ducks, so in the future I'll probably go to Metzer directly. But I do feel like they kept their word, and delivered us some good ducklings. The confusing guidance at first over shipping is the only reason I removed a star. The fact that a duckling passed after 3 days on the road, well that's a fact of life with mail order ducklings. read more

I paid $15 for shipping with the expectation they would arrive in 1-2 days after being shipped. Why weren't these birds sent priority or with expedited shipping? How are they expected to survive in transit so long? When I called the company to report, the girl said I was lucky to have received tracking info since most people do not receive tracking info. How does tracking info help me if my birds take 5 days to arrive and die in transit? She said she would issue a refund but had no answers as to how they will improve their processes so this doesn't happen in the future. I would choose a different company to order from. read more

Ordered sixty chicks to be shipped out on the 8th of October, and the post office messaged me on the 10th that my chicks were there and ready to be picked up. The women who answered could not have been more rude; practically screaming at us in reply. I had read all the reviews after ordering my 9 silkies. I have to say that they did a great job alerting me upon shipment and they arrived within 24hrs. All are thiving with the exception of 1 , the tiniest. But they had added 3 more to my order at no charge. 1 in each color. It has been almost 4 days and all still thriving. I have a success story and wanted folks to know. They shipped from MN to TN to my home in SC. Thank you Strombergs. As hard as Silkies are to find at a reasonable price, I would look here. I wish I read reviews before ordering. My experience is like the rest. They sell sh*t products and hid behind their, "not my job, I don't give a sh*t" policy. I have been hatching eggs for years. Even as a new person to the process I had at least half hatch under much less than ideal conditions. Now that I know what I am doing I have closer to 95% hatch rate even with my own eggs, however with Stombergs I had a 0% hatch rate. I would have better luck hatching eggs from the grocery store. I have been successfully hatching many types of birds for years with great success. I ordered 50 Quail eggs and received them in 3 days from shipment. I waited 4 hours then put them in my auto turn incubator along with 4 of my bantam eggs. I also put 2 separate thermometer / hygrometer to make sure my inc was on track which it was. The quail eggs did not hatch on time but all 4 of my bantams hatched 3-4 days later . So I contacted Strombergs and asked if there was anything they could do knowing they do not guarantee egg hatch. After I explained I broke open the eggs to see if any were partially developed and not 1 was I was told I should have let the eggs set for 24 hours before placing them in the inc. I asked why this was not in their very thorough instruction and was told by Kiera " that's not something they put in writing , I should have known this". Now I understand why they don't guarantee fertilized eggs but when you get 0 out of 50 and the chicken eggs all hatched 100% ,from a customer service aspect I would have worked something out had it been my customer. BUYER BEWARE!! Horrible experience twice now. Paid over $100 per bird for some "pedigreed" racing pigeons. What arrived was a bird with salmonella, one with a club foot, and all of them had mites. Second experience: breeder stuffed 6 birds in the smallest crate they make, so no surprise one was dead on arrival. Was told " we will replace this one as a courtesy but we won't replace any after this". Unbelievable. They do t stand behind thier product and customer service is awful. I placed an order on 2/26/25 and in no place within the description did it have a notice their hatching eggs would not be available for shipping after 1-3 business days. Instead I received an email on 3/1 that my order would be in transit starting 6/10. I canceled my order because this timeframe wasn't what I wanted otherwise I wouldn't have ordered. Stromberg's is HORRIBLE. I only ordered from them instead of McMurray b/c Stromberg's had a much earlier delivery date. They lied. 3 weeks late, my chicks arrived. Secondly, it was immediately apparent one of the chicks had issues (crooked beak, spinned in circles, wouldn't eat). Called repeatedly to ask for advice and kept being told that the knowledgeable person was "out" or "would call me back". That never happened. I would highly suggest looking elsewhere if you're planning on purchasing birds, or having anything to do with their customer service. I purchased a male black lace classic old frill pigeon from here and I've never seen a living thing shipped with such little regard. The bird was in a completely unmarked box, had tape over majority of the holes, and the top wasn't taped correctly so it ripped. I had contacted USPS about this, partially due to the bird having to go 48 hours without water, and they informed me of the unmarked box. When I contacted Stromberg's customer service the person I talked to, Heather, was beyond rude. They rudely talked over me from the beginning, claimed USPS was lying and insinuated that I was lying as well. I've since provided them with picture proof. They also tried to blame my local post office, which is run by the nicest people! The postal worker expressed his concern over the bird due to it not making any noise, but was able to look in through the large tear on top and see a living bird. Over the years I've had dozens of living things mailed to me, including feeder insects and plants. Those had boxes labeled as containing live animals or live plants and were securely taped without covering the majority of the holes. All in all this interaction was by far the worst I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing, from how poorly the bird was shipped to how absolutely deplorable their customer service is. I will be purchasing from reputable breeders from now on and suggest that you do the same and not spend your money here. read more

Placed an order and never heard anything from Stromberg's after the order confirmation. No one answers the telephone or responds to email. Ended up reaching someone via social media who said the order had not shipped and an item I ordered was no longer available. No option to replace the out-of-stock item. I asked them to cancel the order. The next day, they responded that they would not honor my cancellation request. Facebook messenger shows my request to cancel was seen hours before the UPS label was created. One day after requesting the cancellation, Stromberg still has the shipment, UPS hasn't picked it up. Probably sitting at the door and easily retrievable, but won't cancel the order. There are a number of highly rated hatcheries in the U.S. I wish I had read the recent reviews and Facebook complaints before placing my order here. It appears Stromberg is no longer interested in keeping company with these far superior suppliers. read more

I placed an order with Stromberg's for chicken supplies (no live birds) and was pleased with the price and the shipping speed. I then placed a second, larger, order, and the most expensive thing in the order was two heated waterers for my chickens. When they arrived, I found that the waterers were nothing like the description on the Stromberg's website (other than being waterers). In particular, the two pieces of the waterer didn't fit together snugly, so that they could easily separate and spill gallons of water on the floor or ground. I wrote a negative review of the item on the Stromberg's website, but it did not appear. I checked a while later, and it wasn't there. I tried to reenter the review and the website said I couldn't enter a review because I already had. I wrote to Stromberg's asking them to display the review so other customers would know about the bad product, and they did not respond. So, buyer beware: Stromberg's suppresses negative reviews of the products they sell their website. The positive reviews might be the minority of reviews, as far as I know. read more

I just ordered some turkey poults that they had listed on their website. After ordering I noticed they did not provide a delivery date. I called the customer service desk and the woman informed me that they do not provide a delivery date. It could be a couple of weeks, it could be a couple of months. They were unable to tell me. I found this unreasonable and asked to cancel my order. She told me there would be a $10 charge. I let her know I just ordered them a couple minutes before. She basically instructed me I should've read the fine print when I was ordering. In so many words she told me it was my tough luck. And she said they really weren't accountable for it since it was the hatchery fault not their fault. I explained to her that I was doing business with them directly and they were the ones accountable not some third-party. With a bit of an attitude she told me that was my opinion. I informed her that was not an opinion that was a fact. I will not do business with these people again nor do I recommend them. I ordered one pair of pigeons about 4 months ago. Until recently I found both of them are female because I witnessed both of them laid eggs. When I contacted their customer service, they just refused to do anything for me because they said I reported this issue after six weeks of placing order which is against their company's police. If I can find this issue early, I would definitely report it. Then they push the fault on me that I didn't take my lesson on how to find the problem before buying pigeons. I called in today to get a refund/cancel an order, because the expected delivery date was October and the chicks would not be feathered out enough to winter with the flock in our hen house by the end of the year. I explained this to the woman on the phone (Meghan I believe?, extension 4) and added that we don't like to heat the hen house because of the extreme fire danger, in addition to other reasons. She responded "that is cruel". I explained that our hen house rarely gets below 20, and when we feel their bodies under the feather coat, they are warm. She said "that it is still cruel", I told her to do some research, and she responded she "is a professional", "talks to the breeders" and "no animal should ever be without heat in the winter". Additionally when I asked to speak with a manager she said no, I told her she was being rude and I didn't trust that I was going to get my refund, honestly, based on her behavior. She said "oh believe you're getting a refund" with the most attitude she could muster, and then proceeded to hang up on me. I could go off about heat vs no heat, but at the end of the day that doesn't matter, what matters is how a professional spoke to a customer. I don't think a person in customer service should ever give such a rude, unnecessary response to anyone who calls in ON AN UNRELATED ISSUE. I am appalled. I will never order from them again, I swear to that. I would encourage people thinking about ordering from them to shop elsewhere. read more
