Long overdue review for Strobel Dentistry. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Dan several years ago and I can honestly say that my oral health has never been better. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the hygienists to Dr. Dan himself make the not-so-pleasant task of going to the dentist surprisingly pleasant! When I came to Dr. Dan a few years ago, I will admit my teeth were in bad shape and I was very self-conscious about it. After years in undergrad and grad school without dental insurance, my oral health had really taken a hit. Right away, they made me feel really comfortable, did a thorough evaluation and set up a plan to get my dental health up to par. Dr. Dan and his staff are very friendly and definitely take the time to address any concerns you have, efficiently tackle any current problems and also focus on prevention which is key. When I needed to have my wisdom teeth extracted, they were able to recommend a fantastic oral surgeon in the same building. Also, unlike some of the posts here, I have never had them offer me services that I did not need such as tooth whitening. I will say though that when I have enough funds saved up, I am definitely looking forward to getting Invisalign through them. This practice is constantly upgrading their technology and stays on top of the latest developments in the dental industry. I have never had a problem with them processing my dental insurance either and paying any co-pays is super easy online. You also can't beat the location in the heart of the loop across the street from Macy's. I can't recommend them enough! read more

I have had nothing but great experiences with Strobel! I had my first appointment with them this past summer and it was my first trip to the dentist in a long time. I had a few cavities, some of them deeper and larger than others, and Dr. Terrassa was very honest about the treatment I needed. I also don't have dental insurance, so another employee came and talked me through the Dental Savings Plan, which I ended up signing up for. One of my cavities was deep, and where other dentists might've done a root canal and charged me more, Dr. Terrassa took over an hour carefully removing it and filling it. These guys are fantastic. I'm always impressed when, we only really see each other twice a year, they remember me & details about me. The dentists are informative and insightful and the hygienists are so friendly and good! I love the way my teeth feel afterwards! :) The location is so convenient for me, working downtown. I've been going to Dr. Dan for years now. I absolutely love the experience of going there for my teeth. 1) I get good advice. 2) They don't complain about our wacky "international" insurance that requires them to talk to someone in the highlands of Scotland in order to pay our bill. It also takes forever for this to get done, but after the first few visits, they seem to have gotten everything down pat. 3) They don't try to upsell you or pay extravagantly for optional treatments. I'm bleaching my teeth because they're stained and I'm getting married. Vain? Yes. However, Strobel Dentistry makes your imprints and sells you the gel at cost - and you can keep getting refills at cost, so your initial investment doesn't seem THAT bad. 4) They're really good with me and my paranoid tooth problems. My mother has self-admitted awful teeth. I have dreams about losing mine. They've been really good about addressing tooth pain and addressing my concerns without making me sound loco. 5) I hate the dentist, in theory. I do not mind going to Dr. Dan's for a cleaning (or even a cavity fix!). read more

I found out about Strobel Dentistry through Chicago Magazine's list of best dentists in Chicago -- and they were right! I love going here because Dr. Dan and the dental staff are SO thorough, friendly and helpful. I've had a number of procedures and I can always rest assured that I am getting the best care. They have handouts and great advice for keeping your teeth healthy. I was very impressed with the quality of bonding, fillings, cleanings and general check-ins. Everyone in the office is very nice and super accommodating. I'm actually surprised how easy it is to get an appointment with little notice and I have NEVER had to wait more than a couple of minutes in the waiting room. They get you right in and out, and have early appointments so I don't have to miss work to go to the dentist. Finding a good dentist seems to be unreasonably difficult, so I was happy when I received a recommendation for Strobel from a family friend. After 1.5 years as a patient, I'm still incredibly happy. The office management is always prompt and professional, and Dr. Dan is awesome. I don't have any experience with the new dentist they hired after Dr. Greg retired, but I'm sure she's great as well. I absolutely loved this dental office! I had my appointment on Wed. Feb. 14th, 2018 (V-Day). I am glad that I came in the afternoon because the appointment was longer than I am used to. I had my teeth examined and cleaned. Aer, the dental hygienist, assisted me most of the time. She was extremely thorough. She took several pictures, she checked each tooth and all parts of my gums. I have a high tolerance for pain so although the poking and prodding was a bit painful and intrusive, it was worth it. This dental office uses all the latest technologies as well. It's very modern and they appear to use an electronic database to store info. The views from this office A-1. The dentist, Dr. Isabella Terrassa, was very nice. We conversed for about 5-10 minutes. But I must give most of the credit to Aer. I had an awesome experience. read more

I would recommend Strobel Dentistry to anyone looking for a great dentist. I used to dread going to the dentist. The main reason was due to how uncomfortable it was to get any type of service done.. I can tell you this.. I don't worry about that anymore... They are very gentle, and everyone in the office is friendly.. I now look forward to my cleanings! I know thats weird to say, but it's true.. Your appointments start on time, so there's no waiting an hour before getting seated.. One last thing... They never try to sale you any extra services.. I'm simply astounded at how this dental practice operates -- from scheduling to services, it is truly a finely-tuned machine. You'll get text message and email reminders so you can drop the appointment into your calendar. They are perfectly punctual -- I'm able to get in and out for a routine cleaning during my lunch break. Ali is my hygienist and she brings a genuinely caring and consultative approach to her work. Dr. Dan is extremely knowledgeable and also truly cares about his patients and it shows. It's reassuring to know that you have a team of people that are smart, thoughtful and friendly, yet serious about providing you with the very best service. I have been a loyal customer of Strobel Dentistry since I first moved to Chicago in 2008. The location is extremely convenient for city dwellers. Who doesn't love a nice view of Trump Tower while getting a teeth cleaning? On a more serious note, the customer service and quality of care Strobel provides are unmatched. They have weekend hours one Saturday a month, so I never have to take time out of the work day for my twice a year cleanings. Every Strobel employee with whom I've interacted has been knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Strobel goes above and beyond with regard to keeping its clients informed about basic dental care as well as new technological advances. I have benefited from the informational materials they create for clients, such as a list of the acidity levels in beverages and the abrasiveness of various toothpaste brands. These are things I would not think about on my own, but that could affect my dental health. At my last appointment I even purchased an electric toothbrush at a very reasonable price. My hygienist, Jen, then took the time to show me how best to use the toothbrush. I really cannot say enough nice things about Strobel and I hope they remain in Chicago for a long time to come! read more

Sadly I had a bad experience and felt deceived by Stroebel dentistry. I went for the first time since the pandemic (was pregnant at the time), and they led me to believe they were doing a routine cleaning covered by insurance. The hygienist even suggested I come back in December because "my plan covered twice a year cleanings". She also discussed coding a special cleaning a certain way because it would be "covered by my insurance". The appointment and people like Dr Isabella were pleasant and wonderful - not so much when I received my bill. The cleaning was not covered because it was a "comprehensive oral exam" that can only be billed every 5 years. Had I known, I might have had my prior dentist send over medical records, or at least been aware that I would be charged. At a minimum you don't want to feel misled or surprised when you receive a bill. I protested the bill when I got it, and Dr Stroebel defended their policy and actions, offering 50% off and throwing in that they had done a free X-ray during my appointment so quoted all the free/covered services they had given. One other thing that really bothered me was that Dr Stroebel wrote in his email that he knows dental insurance can be confusing - I worked in finance at the largest US healthcare payer and very much understand how it works. I felt deceived by them and on top of that, talked down to. In good faith, I paid my bill and told them I could no longer remain as a patient. I understand they are running a business but they were willing to lose a patient over $64 for a cleaning. read more

I feel compelled to write this review because Doctor Strobel and his outstanding team utterly exceeded my expectations yesterday. First of all, the office complex has been redesigned to ensure that social distancing and all the other protection practices vis-a-vis COVID-19 are assiduously followed. To accentuate this point, the room I was in to have major work done to my teeth had a machine named "Air Doctor"- which appeared to filter the air to keep it extremely fresh. Thus, notwithstanding COVID I felt extremely safe, which at age 64 is very important to me. Taking care of my health and appearance is very crucial. However, I had let the condition of the teeth in my mouth erode. Before Doctor Strobel and his team embarked on the eight hour project to repair my teeth, he showed me a mock-up of what my teeth would look like when the project was completed. The mock-up made me extremely excited and hopeful, and it also underscored that Doctor Strobel had spent quality time prepping for the outcome we both desired. When Doctor Strobel and Brook started to work on me, they were both very meticulous and focused. It was very clear that they were a team that had worked together often. Doctor Strobel kept me posted throughout the entire project of exactly what he was doing and how things were progressing. When he left the room to fashion my crowns, Brook would answer my questions which was very reassuring. I discovered that Brook was very knowledgeable of the procedure being performed on me by her and Doctor Strobel. When Brook took her lunch break, Kimberly took over for her, and did an outstanding job. To net it out, when the work had been completed, I couldn't believe how beautiful my teeth looked. The staff at Strobel Dentistry does a wonderful job. I've been coming here for just over 2 years to see Dr. Isabella and highly recommend them! They explain everything as they clean your teeth/ do procedures which makes you feel apart of the process. They are kind and understanding of your needs (financial or medical). Jen, one of the hygienist, does a thorough job and provides recommendations for any issues you may have. I used to not like going to the dentist but they actually make it an enjoyable experience. read more

2018 UPDATE: I've now been seeing Dr. Isabella for a year and I still have nothing but wonderful things to say about her and the entire practice. Since July 2017 I have been doing Invisalign through Strobel as well, and besides being one of the most affordable providers in the city, the experience has been wonderful. Mika, the Invisalign expert (not sure what her actual title is haha) is a queen and really knows what she's doing. My case was apparently pretty complicated, but less than a year later my teeth have never looked better, and I know so much more about my own mouth and its overall health. Honestly, whatever it costs for you to come here, you should do it. I didn't think it was possible to enjoy going to the dentist but I do now. read more

First, I would like to start by saying I was very content with my previous dentist and I really had no intention of switching or exploring other options. I work in the same building as Dr. Strobel and have come to know his awesome office manager, Michelle, as we tend to run into each other from time to time. The other day we crossed paths and she suggested I come in for an appointment, and for some reason I just couldn't say no (even though I kind of wanted to). Michelle was able to get me an appointment the very next day that accommodated my schedule and she took care of getting all of my previous x-rays and paperwork from my then-current dentist. She made the switch so pleasant and hassle free; I barely had time to feel bad about leaving my dentist for another! I came in for my appointment and I waited for MAYBE 2 minutes tops. HUGE plus- especially since I was trying to fit this into my work schedule during a busy day. Let me also point out that the office is stunning. The entire office aesthetic is absolutely beautiful- I really didn't even feel like I was in a dental office. It was clean, smelled pleasant and all of the equipment was top-of-the-line. All in all, a very classy establishment! I started with Melissa who was great- she walked me through the itinerary of what I could expect for my appointment. She went over my health history and answered any questions or concerns that I had, and then took a few x-rays. Although I don't get nervous going to the dentist I know plenty of people who do- Melissa would definitely squash those anxieties. She makes a great first impression for the rest of the appointment. Ali was up next for my cleaning- loved her! She was so sweet and knowledgeable and made sure to explain everything she was going to do as well as her findings (I hate when they use medical jargon in front of me and then don't explain what they just said. I don't know the language!). She didn't do anything that was uncomfortable or painful- and I have to say this was the most thorough exam I have EVER had. Once Ali was finished, I was ready for my exam with Dr. Dan. First off- I HATE having to sit and wait for extended periods of time for the doctor to come in for the exam- I get way too antsy. When Ali was finished, it was an almost seamless transition into my final exam with the doctor. Dr. Dan came in, chatted with me briefly and went right into his exam. He is very personable and easy to talk to which made the appointment all the more enjoyable. Like I said, initially I had no intention of switching dentists but I am SO glad that Michelle gave me a little push to finally come in for an appointment. These folks are great. I wasn't blessed with good genes in this area, so I've had my fair share of dental visits, and moved around the country alot, seeing different dentists over the years. I love the front desk staff, the hygienist (Brooke), and Dr Strobel. The office is in an older building, but everything inside is new, modern, gorgeous. There are so many personal touches along the way. They remember your name, hand written notes, great email communication. They asked me up front, not just the usual questions around any issues I was having but anything I wanted to cover or bring up. Just really solid listeners, very openly communicative folks. Dr Strobel explained everything to me, things I never knew, did a more detailed exam than I've ever had, and really spent time with me. It's going to sound weird to say it this way, but I didn't feel like a patient, but more like a partnership- like a two way communication / partnership on dental health. He's incredibly detailed, loved him and his staff, I'd highly recommend them. My only thing - and it's solely a quirk of mine, I suspect everyone else will find it a positive, not a negative - but I'm really not a fan of having separate discussions with Michelle, who handles the insurance submissions. I've had my fair share of visits to dentists, had both great and not so great insurance. For me, it's just best to have pre-work estimates, tell me what I need to pay, and I'm good. I prefer low touch communication on insurance and payment, but like I said, I suspect people are more likely to appreciate higher touch, especially since they are out of network. To me, they're worth the extra cost as out of network...again I strongly recommend these folks! read more

I'm giving 5 stars due to my first time experience as a patient. First of all, the staff is realllyyyy amazing! They're not fake-nice either, they're actually genuinely nice and happy people. I came for an Invisalign consultation with Dr. Strobel and wow was I impressed. He did a thorough exam to make sure that I was a qualified candidate, and his demeanor made me feel like he actually cared. Off bat you can tell that teeth is truly his passion, his face lights up and everything! I've been Invisalign hunting for awhile and I've been to four different Orthodontists and none of them come close to Dr. Strobel and his team. I have never written a Yelp review but I am very passionate about, out of all things, my dentist. I'm convinced Strobel Dentistry is the best in Chicago. I became a patient in 2014 when I went in for Invisalign. I had Invisalign for a little under 2 years and had to go to the dentist every 6-8 weeks and I've never had a bad experience...they actually made going to the dentist enjoyable, which is not easy to do for most! The front office is always friendly and gets to know you by name. I've never had to wait for an appointment. Lizzie was my dental assistant and she was always upbeat, friendly and a pleasure to work with. Dr. Dan is knowledgeable, personable and professional. Leslie is my hygienist and again, is friendly (common theme here) and thorough. My fiance had a bad experience with his past dentist trying to price gouge and charge him for services that were never discussed beforehand and I can tell you that Strobel is the exact opposite! They treat their patients like family and have an amazing work ethic. I was referred to them, I have referred many to them and will continue doing so because they deserve all the business they can handle. read more

Not to sound like like Bella H. but she is right, Strobel Dentistry is by far the best dentist office I've ever been to. Before I came here, I went to a fancy-schmancy dentist on Michigan Avenue, and while they had a great view and upscale offices, they overcharged, they made me wait (one-hour one time), and didn't seem concerned about me as a patient, but as someone with good health insurance that they could rack up the billings (you even had to meet with their "patient consultant" who was basically the salesperson!) A co-worker recommended Dr. Dan Strobel and it was like I entered a magical world of great customer service, friendliness, and excellent dental work - I actually look forward to going to the dentist. These are great people and if all dentists were like this, people would definitely go ever 6 months for their cleanings! read more

I am as a big a wimp as they come when it comes to dentistry, so I was skeptical of any new dentist and their patience with my low tolerance and many dental problems. I was so impressed with Dr Dan and his staff. Not only did they make feel physically comfortable, giving me plenty of numbing medication. But they also made me feel emotionally comfortable. In addition I went into this visit having not gone to the dentist for over two years and really expecting a whopper of a bill. Dr Dan was very conservative in his treatment method, when I feel in the past other dentists have taken advantage of the situation and really tried to add a lot of unnecessary services on the to the bill. From start to finish the process was very transparent and Dr. Dan and the team let me know what to expect every step of the way. Mika was my Invisalign specialist and was fantastic! So here's my story...I'm traveling from Seattle to Rome with a layover in Chicago. A few days ago I started experiencing some intense tooth/jaw pain. Since this happened over a weekend, I couldn't get in to see my normal dentist so i pushed on with OTC ibuprofen. Once I landed in Chicago I knew I needed some treatment ASAP or my trip to Rome would need to wait. I contacted Dr. Strobel's office on a Monday afternoon, Sharon answered the phone and was determined to help me out! She was able to work me in-between other patients to see Dr. Dan first thing Tuesday morning. The doctor examined and X-rayed my tooth and determined I likely needed a root canal pronto. Two minutes later he had me referred and scheduled with a specialist across the street that was going to make it happen right away since I had to fly to Rome at 5pm same day. The entire experience was amazing (for a root canal), very friendly staff, and the precise coordination between doctors was so impressive. Thank you all so much! read more

Okay, nobody really looks forward to seeing the dentist - and I have done more than my fair share of time in the dental chair. What I like about Strobel - first, there is Jess who answers the phone - none of that push 1 push 2 nonsense - and she actually remembers you - I recently called to reschedule a cleaning and she didn't even have to look up my last name to check that the cleaning would be eligible for insurance. I've been seeing Dr. Dan for just over a year and we just finished Invisalign - and the results are great. My teeth are so much easier to clean and my smile is movie-star beautiful.. The hygienists are as gentle as possible and even when I have to do extra time for a filling - everyone is pleasant and looking out for my comfort. I also like their conservative approach - sometimes when I would see other dentists, I swear they would see all the work in my mouth and want to add their own touches to the amalgam masterpieces of their predecessors. Not here - the goal is to keep my teeth and gums healthy with the minimum number of procedures. Their office is located right across from the former Marshall Fields - and as a girl, my dad would tell tales of visiting the Walnut Room after his dental appointment. While I can't say that it was the Strobel family that took care of my dad - I love being able to carry on that family tradition. If you have to do time in the dental chair, make it a dental chair with Dr. Dan and the Strobel team. read more

I can't say enough about how friendly and accommodating everyone is at this office! I first went here for invisalign consultation a little over a year ago. Dr. Dan did the necessary exam and told me that I would be a great fit for the invisalign lite case. He answered all of my questions. Then Michelle walked me through the financial part of the invisalign when I decided to go with it. Mika is the invisalign expert who scans your teeth images to send to the invisalign company for aligners to be made. And every time I went in for check-ins, Mika was so welcoming. From the first day until now I haven't had any bad experience with the entire team. I have busy work schedule and often travel out of town for work, and they were very accommodating when it comes to scheduling. The actual time period it took me to wear initial aligner sets was only about 8 months, but it took extra 6 months for me to be satisfied with my bite (as your teeth have moved, you have different bite feels- surprisingly my bite felt different everyday and I needed to find a day when bite felt perfect to scan my teeth for the retainers). During this whole wait-and-see time, Mika and Dr. Dan were so patient with me, not making me feel rushed to finalize the process- and I appreciate that very much. And now I am finally done with the process and I'm just wearing retainers at night. I am very happy with the results! I highly recommend this place to everyone. I just wish it was in-network for my insurance so that I can come in for other teeth matters (regular cleaning, x rays etc). read more

I hate getting my teeth cleaned...hate hate it. These people know what they're doing and they have a bunch of cool gadgets. I had my gums numbed, but honestly I probably didn't need it. They were gentle and very nice. They told me exactly what to do to take care of the issues I had and a couple days after my cleaning my gums went from red to a pink color. Plus I didn't have any soreness after! They're my dentists now for sure. read more
