I tried to get several fabrics for a pillow to reupholster and he wanted 80$ cash deposit which I paid. and when I requested several quotes all fabrics were discontinued. We contracted with John Trent the owner of the business back on December 2 2025. We still do not have our pillows and cushions as of this submittal. He took one of main dining room chairs and cushion as a template and he lost it. Now we have to go to small claims court to recover whatever we can including our main dining room chair. He was a nice guy at the beginning and then when we fell through the cracks and politely asked for our chair and deposit money back he told us to speak with his attorney. I presented John and his crew with a challenge. My wife and I bought a table over 20 years ago that had been kept in our garage because we did not have room for it in our previous home. When we moved to Florida we bought a place that had room for the table, however we lost parts of the base of the table. All we had were two end pieces, and we needed to horizontal cross pieces to connect them. Enter Striptique. John was able to manufacture the two pieces, and was able to match the finish exactly! I have a 50 year old Drexel Heritage bedroom set, in perfect condition. The quality and details are unmatched today. We moved to Florida and the set would look more coastal in a painted white finish. John quoted a price of $3000.00 to paint the amoire, dresser, mirror and 2 side tables to white. i thought this was extremely high but was promised would look as though it came out of the showroom. I asked if the insides would be painted and yes they would. john said it would take about 4 weeks; three months later it was done. My husband said the insides were not painted and that I was disappointed. John now claimed the insides would be more money. John obviously doe not remember original promises. The set has areas that need touch up upon delivery. I sent photos to clarify. John arrived not only without any paint or person to do touch ups however, he could give us a vial of said paint in a few days we could pick it up at the showroom. Again, we have to touch up his work. ADDITIONALLY , we had a metal Pottery Barn headboard, This I could have sprayed myself with 2 coats of Krylon spray paint at any Lowe's store. John's charge was $800, that it had to be dipped to coat. ( snake oil BS). The headboard took from End of December to Mid April to get back. I took my dressing table and chair to someone else. What a lousy job. #1 he only finished the top of the table and nothing else on the table. #2 he did not strip anything and only painted -- within a couple of months the paint started to peel. I am so glad that I then found Striptique. They stripped everything and refinished it and did a wonderful job. They matched everything perfectly, made it look brand new, redid all the trim exactly as the new, and even put some trim on the chair so it looks like they were made for each other. All at a price below what the other crazy guy charged. I would definitely recommend them and will use them again. One star rating is way too flattering! Should be a "minus one star"! Save yourself from one of the worst customer service experience ever. We wanted to have our patio furniture cushions re-upholstered and had considered a particular fabric we had seen online. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach someone at the shop, we finally talked to an elderly woman who told us to bring in the cushions for John (the "octogenarian" owner) to provide us with his "experienced" opinion and an estimate. When we arrived at the "shop" (a complete chaotic mess of a workspace) at the agreed time, John wasn't there. We waited and waited, and then waited some more until he finally arrived. After going on and on about his 2 college degrees (what the heck? We also have college degrees but didn't see any reason to share that with him...) and his 50+ years of business experience (with what exactly?), he finally told us that he had never heard of that fabric/manufacturer but might have alternatives, of which we saw one. So, we gave him all information and contact details for the company rep, and he agreed to call and find out more and would call us back. So far so good. Days went by without a call-back. When we finally followed up, he told us that he had spoken with the rep and actually liked the fabric and would integrate it into his own fabric portfolio. Great! I'm glad we could help. He had also received a sample of the fabric and told us it would cost $57/yard, and with labor cost of $900 would bring project cost to a total of $2,325 plus 7% tax. But downright refused to provide us with a quote and proposal in writing. Hmmm... wonder why... everyone else did! Now, when we saw the actual fabric sample, we weren't that impressed and thought $57/yard was a bit steep. Especially, since John told us he needed 25 yards!!! Funny, as other estimates we had received quoted between 18 - 22 yards!!! 18 yards was also confirmed by an online fabric calculator we used! However, John dismissed this as "complete and ignorant nonsense". He also refused to let us take the fabric sample home in order to see in on our cushions in the proper light. His reason: "Well, I don't know where you live." Excuse me?! We assured him that we'd bring it back within an hour... but "No, absolutely not". OK, let's look at alternative fabrics. His response: "No, I've already done a lot of work tracking the fabric down for you and making phone calls, and also showed you one other alternative. So, you have two choices and that should be enough." Meanwhile, the elderly woman yelled from the back: "Yeah, this one is the fabric YOU wanted, so why not take it?" Well, we were literally speechless, and needless to say, that didn't quite work for us. So, we said "fine, we'll search for alternatives ourselves and provide the fabric". THAT was the deal-killer! Now, John refused to do the job at all. When we asked him why, he said that he quoted "low labor cost", but couldn't do the job if he doesn't make money on the fabric. Go figure! To all of you reading this: Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. To John: Thanks for nothing other than wasting our time and boring us to death with your 2 degrees and lifetime of experience. Heed my warning. Do not do business with this company. He is unscrupulous in his business practices. He over charges and you cannot get a firm bid on the project. You can't get a firm bid or when the project will be done. You will make multiple trips to his work shop to only find that his administrative assistants have no idea why you're there or what is happening with the furniture in his possession. And then you will find that nothing has been done to the furniture that you've been called to look at. He will make your promises on delivery and timing that is not fulfilled. And once you pick the furniture up you will find that the tops and bottoms or sides of the furniture are not done. And his excuse is no one paints the top of cabinets. Which is ludicrous. if the cabinet is next to a staircase and someone is walking up the staircase they're going to see that the top of the cabinet has not been painted like the rest of the furniture. This man needs to be put out of business. How he has existed as long as he has is unfathomable to me. Unbelievable business practices. Marie Antoinettes referred this business to me. Have been a long time customer. Antique dresser was stored in a basement for years & was a mess. They brought it to life for me in 1992 & it still looks amazing today. High chair was purchased in 1978 & went through 2 children. Striptique revived it to its original beauty for me. Most recently (2019) Mario worked his magic, as only he can, on our 2 steamer chairs (which were looking old & tired) which have wood nails & brass hardware. Thankful for Striptique, as it's been difficult for me to find this caliber of wood refinshers in South Florida. My items were finished when they told me they would be ready. This company (John Trent 1460 Cypress Dr, Jupiter, FL 561.295.5580) is a straight up scam. 6 months ago, I dropped off my grandmother's 80-year-old Lane Cedar Chest with and invoice for $1,070.00 and paid check for $500 down payment. Never once was called back in reference to the status of the job. So, I arrived there since they cannot return phone calls. They said it has been done for 6 weeks and proceeded to tell me I owed more than the remaining $570.00 of the invoice. They came to my house to see the chair, the furniture I wanted to coordinate it with and to give me a quote. I went to their shop the next day to choose fabric and their selections seemed endless. This is my review of work done by Striptique on Cypress Drive in Tequesta: a couple years ago, I took my Grandmother's antique, 100+-year old rocker that I inherited to be wood-refinished because my new kitten chewed the rocker ends. I asked to have those smoothed and then restain the frame in the same Dark Walnut finish. It came back with the rocker ends still rough and the stain was now a light Maple. Now I take in a patio chair to have a new vinyl "sling" seat replaced that had ripped out. I kept calling from 5/24 through 7/30 and no one was able to find the chair. Or - no one is there to look. Or - "what were you having done" - on & on. I finally pick it up, the vinyl fabric doesn't match my other 3, the aluminum arms are all gashed-up, the top back was all ripples, the work is horrible where they opened the frame & rejoined it. The office lady couldn't find my invoice and just charged me "whatever". When she found it, she charged me 9% sales tax, which I questioned. She started yelling at me and meandered around the office a few times and finally started digging in her purse to give me back a few dollars. I told her I didn't want it, I just wanted a copy of my invoice and my chair because I had other things to do. She yelled again - "ok - no one else has anything to do but you!" Then she said they were out of electric for a week in the past 10-1/2 weeks since they got the chair. I never saw anyone who yelled at a customer and was so rude in my life. She tried to copy her invoice in their outdated printer about 3 times and said she couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. Then she realized that she hadn't fed the original in. So I finally got a copy. Shoddy work, rude owner or employee?, disorganization & disgusting final returned products. After receiving a quote from this company to have my chaise lounge cushions re covered I decided to use them as their price was in line with all other quotes I had had but this company was local so I went ahead and decided to use them. I arrived at the office and unloaded all the cushions, a man then took them away while I went inside to finalise the paper work, at this joint I was told that the cushion were no longer $300 per cushion but now $390, when I asked why the owner replied because he didn't know they had pockets, I had sent pictures of the pockets when getting a quote, I asked them to look at the pictures I had sent of the pockets, which they did but claimed they didn't look like pockets!! The cushions had now been taken away and I was being told I had to pay an extra $90 per cushion, when I complained the owner started to haggle, he said ok $360 per cushion and I will put backing in them to make them firmer for cash, I repeated ok $360 cash no more surprises! I gave him $700 cash and agreed to pay $740 when I picked them up. When I arrived today I was told I had to pay 101 tax, I told the owner this is not what we agreed and why should I pay tax if your not, his wife then started screaming at me asking why i thought I was exempt from paying taxes, I did not! I run a business and pay lots of taxes, it was what we had agreed. I offered to give them a check to pay the balance with the tax included, they refused and said cash only! This lady then got really crazy, lying the whole time. I had already called my husband and asked him to come and support me, once the owner realised this he tried to drive off. Once inside the screaming, crazy lady started hurling racial abuse at us because we are from the U.K. and not the US, while defending the owners lies the whole time! At my first visit there the crazy, screaming lady actually defended me and told the owner that that was not the price he had quoted me, then today denied all knowledge of the price change. They also declined to give me the quote through email, I now know why!! I have never experienced anything so corrupt in my entire life!! We had to call the police because they refused to give us the cushions. These people are very dishonest! Please think twice before using this company. It's been a real learning experience for me. No problem with the quality of the work, but their customer service is abysmal. We would recommend looking elsewhere on that basis alone. They never called once with any status report or estimated date of completion. I called them multiple times to ask how things were coming. Katherine would say she would call back but she never did - not once. They took their time - about two months for what seemed to me to be fairly straightforward work. What really lit us up was their attitude when we went to pick up our stuff. They wanted cash on the barrel, greenbacks - no checks, no Venmo, no Visa. And they were really rude and demanding about having the money in their hands before they would even load it in our car. Seriously? If I could give this company a zero I would! I dropped off a dresser for a client right before the holidays. I understood it would be a bit longer but still decided to leave the piece there. Mario gave me a $250 price to do the repair that I felt was extremely overpriced. He then said he would do it for $100! Great I said since it was one small spot. I left him all my information and left. When I called today to inquire about the night stand; I was not prepared to listen to what was about to transpire! The woman on the phone pretty much told me that if I would have been serious about having my piece repaired that I would have left a deposit. She also told me she has no information for me so how was I expecting to be called! I told her that Mario had all my information, and it was not my fault he had not told me or I would have left a deposit! I then asked her why she had such a bad attitude with me, and she just continued to raise her voice and tell how "I" was the one screaming and how all this was all my fault! That I should have gone inside to find her! Mind you, I had never been there before and if there was a special protocol to be followed I would have. She also mentioned that Mario should have told me about the protocol!!! This lady gets crazier by the minute!!Again, how was this MY fault?! She told me she would call me back to give me an update about the piece. I called her back because it took a little bit, and she them told me that I had finagled Mario for a lower price so maybe that is why there was no rush. I just told her I would pick it up and take my business elsewhere. Her response was, yep- you should! Not once was she even a bit concerned about the miscommunication or even a little bit apologetic! Every word was "let's find a way to turn it all around to make it someone else fault but themselves!" When I wen to pick up the piece she was gone so I spoke to Mario. He was apologetic and when asked what had happened he said he did not know. That he has given them my info! In short. SAVE yourself a headache and do not deal with this shop! They do not deliver as promised. Initially, I was told 3 - 4 days to replace fill in 3 cushions. This expanded to almost 3 weeks, with me stopping frequently to expedite as I could not use my couch. I believe they outsourced them and while they do look fine ( picked them up today) they did not do the job as quoted. They told me they would wrap the new fill with muslin or something to help it retain its shape. When I got them home and checked, no wrapping. But I am not returning them as it was so difficult to get them back the first time. I also agree with the other reviewer, the woman in the office varied between friendly and confrontational. I suspect she gets a lot of heat from customers complaining about her boss and does not know how to handle it. Do yourself a favor and find another shop. read more
