Pleasantly surprised that the ladies' room was pretty clean. My first husband wanted me to add that the men's room is still bad.

A flying J truck stop five stars Guy? Yes. One reason....Back scratcher!…read more Let me explain. I was turning south into a little populated area of Texas and didn't know what the supply of gasoline or prices would look like. so I pulled into a place ive visited in other areas before, The Flying J, to fill up. I also realized a few beverages id brought from home required a bottle opener. So while the truck filled, I went inside to get a couple of things and see if they had an opener. After looking and not finding I ask the counter clerk for assistance and she looked at the other clerk like...whats a bottle opener. She then turned to me and said if we have one it would be right down that way. Waving over towards the taquito and hot dog roller isle! AS i pursued the instant-relief headache packets and Tums, there it was! A tray is full of back scratchers. An aside. I've had an itch in the middle of my back i can't rtelescoping extension I thought..Sold. Then I noticed the center of the monster's hand was V-shaped. No, I thought! Is it possible the back scratcher doubles as a bottle opener? Turns out Yes! perfect! So I decided to drink while driving. Fever Tree Ginger Ale that is. Thank you Flying J Travel Center!!!!! Sometimes things just work out.

I stopped in here to put enough gas in my tank to get to Del Rio the next day when returning home…read morefrom Seminole Canyon State Park. I would be pulling a trailer and wanted a full tank, but the gas here was almost $3.00 a gallon. Some might think that is terrible, especially since San Antonio is sitting at $1.80 in some places this week, but I have no problem with it. Holley's is the only gas station in the area and, therefore, deserves the right to charge enough to stay in business. It must be a struggle out there. When you are from the big city and you see the words "Quick Stop", a big corner lot gas station with about 8 pumps and a mini grocery store comes to mind. That is not was Holly's is at all. In fact, if you didn't see the one pump out front of this non-assuming building, you wouldn't even know it was a gas station. I actually had to ask the server at the restaurant if they were still open. As I passed it earlier, there was a truck parked parallel to the pumps, making it totally impossible for me to get gas there. The server told me that some people do that and it annoys the owners of Holley's. Inside, the store is a little dark room with some old beer coolers and shelves with a small selection of different items. It reminded me of the stores you find at some camp grounds. I was there for beer, hoping that since the restaurant had Blue Moon, I would be able to at least get that. No luck. They didn't really have any good selections for a beer snob like me. I chose a six pack of George Killian's Irish Red. When I got to the counter, a very nice elderly lady (Holley?) told me that the beer was expired, so she was only going to charge me $8.00. I had checked the date at the cooler and saw it was only a little past. Besides, beer, unlike food, does not become dangerous when it is out of date. It merely loses some quality. I don't know how much she would have charged for fresh beer. I really didn't care. When you are the only place to buy beer, you get to set your prices. I don't whine about that. If you are passing through Comstock, stop in at Holley's. Even if you don't really want or need anything. Do it to support the local residents who need this place. If it closes its doors, they have no local place to buy gas or simple supplies.

Southwest Texas at its finest. Rural gas costing more than normal, but it's "Putin's" fault, right?…read moreIDK. Stop and purchase something if you have ever needed something on a road trip and a store was shut down. You realize how this place is very important. What I do know is you can get local flavor during morning coffee with good conversation. If, that is, when you are respectful and don't expect something other than traditional American viewpoints. Snowflakes and woke idiots please just buy a pizza, fill your tank, and don't say anything but pleasantries and your experience some quality hospitality.
