They are great here, very helpful with new gun owners. I was having an issue with my AR and the guy saw me struggling on the camera and came and broke the gun down for me and explained the issue. no extra charge or anything. The range is longest I've seen and the people are wonderful read more

Former Army Berlin Brigade, Before I joined my dad took me here to the range all the time. When I got out I went there to buy a rifle and a few sidearms. Most my gear was still in transit, and I was going to be starting a new job that required me to be armed. I asked to see the bolt carrier and bolt on the rifle I was looking at and the guy I knew was the owner looks at me like I am dirt and asks me why I want to see that... The rifle I was looking at was over 1500 and at the time that was not cheep. I was going to be buying high priced firearms not your bottom of the bine knock off show me the cheapest you got crap and the guy treated me like I was stupid or something. I had to run a class that was using their range a few years back and it was easy to see nothing had changed. Its almost like the owner went out of his way to find assholes. I very rarely say this but if you want a example of who should not carry a gun go to their store. read more

Longest indoor range in Michigan. It's long enough to have fun with an ar-15 for a while. I think most gun ranges get pretty rough reviews because there's a bit of misunderstanding from what first time customer expects when coming to a range to shoot. For example, there are poor reviews on yelp for this place because customers didn't realize they'd need to purchase ammo in order to shoot. Ammo isn't free, it never will be free, and if you rent range time anywhere you're bringing your own ammo or paying for it at the range. Thats a bad reason to leave a poor review. Renting range time also doesn't include free lessons to use a firearm. I think that's also another misconception people have when going to a range and renting a firearm - which leads to false poor reviews IMO. If you are looking for a long indoor range to fire your rifle, this place is great. I wish it was 100yards, but 50 yards is still the longest we've got in metro detroit. Ive been here twice and would definitely go back. It's cheap. The targets are free. The range is no frills. No fancy technology. It certainly gets the job done - especially in the area. But don't walk in expecting free ammo or free lessons. read more

Highly recommend! Super friendly and helpful staff. Bought a Glock 43X and Optic at Sportsman's Warehouse and went to Double Action to give it a try. Had to drop the magazine after each shot and physically eject the spent shell. The real gunsmith at Double Action was able to determine that the guy they called a gunsmith at Sportsman"s Warehouse had installed screws that were too long and caused the ejector to hang up. These guys are the best. The facility is also very clean with convenient parking. read more

I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. Seriously. I've been here twice and once was not even gun related. The gentlemen still were willing to help me try to solve my issue even if they didn't make a sale. Second time was a first look, today actually. There were a lot of firsts today. I let my anxiety get the better of me at times. Not once did my instructor have an attitude. Opposite actually, let me take my time and gave me breaks to calm myself. I did really good when my nerves were down. Got to keep my first shots! Excited to come back for more practice. read more

Double Action Indoor Shooting Center & Gun Shop - Gun/Rifle Ranges Near Me - Madison Heights, Michigan

I am an US Army veteran and prior Law Enforcement. This place was disgusting and I will never go back. I was stopped mid shooting session to be given a lesson on the rules of the range. Nope. I wasn't even rapid firing like the rocket scientist range police said I was. Find a different place to shoot that doesn't smell like an ashtray. read more

Treated me good most times I've been there, but treated a friend of mine really rudely (I was there when it happened). Not interested in going back read more

It was one of the first ranges I went to when I moved here and its not bad. it was very clean, and the sales associates were very nice. I did have to wait for a little while to get into a lane due to the range being kind of small but overall, not a bad spot. read more

Great pricing and a nice shooting range. Groupon has some good deals too. My husband and I are planning our date nights for this range

My fiancé bought a groupon and took me here. The employees/instructors were extremely helpful and personable. I am an amateur and they made me feel like I was right at home. I had so much fun we ended up buying more bullets. They were excellent and I can't wait to go back! read more

This place is closest to my house so it was a matter of convenience, no other. Then, I had an issue with my weapon and decided to ask for help. I'm not a novice, but I'm not a gun smith either. I asked the gentleman behind the counter for help adjusting my rear sight. He then laughed and belittled my choice of gun and said no, it can't be adjusted. Now, my gun is on the cheaper side, but I've put over 800 rounds without a glitch. I went to another location. They were so nice and eager to help. Went on the range with me and adjusted my rear sight. I may go here just to shoot as it is so close, but never would I purchase a weapon, ammunition, or get any service through them. I would think they would have a little bit more knowledge and willingness to help someone. I guess not. Range area is what it is. A range. The people....well... forget it. read more

EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE AND VERBALLY ABUSIVE STAFF MEMBER!!! Almost had my first shooting experience here. Almost. Despite my intense fear of guns, I decided to surprise my husband with a day date. The young man who was responsible for acclimating us did an amazing job with putting my fears at ease and teaching me how to use the gun. Heart still pounding, but now mostly because of the excitement, we approached the lane check in where we were assisted by a man who we thought to be the twin of another employee. I made the mistake of asking if they were twins. He was either having a bad day or we were the wrong people to ask that question because he immediately went into a verbally aggressive tirade which reset my previously decreasing anxiety. Needless to say, we left and I was in tears quietly convincing my husband to avoid escalation. I didn't give them 1 star because the rest of the staff was amazing and I think I would've had a great experience if it weren't for that man at the end of the counter. The owner might want to consider allowing him to work in the back. He's definitely got some issues that should be addressed if he's gonna continue working with the public. read more

I always go there for shooting range . But I'm done now I never gonna go to the place again that people are rude and not friendly. I had a guest with me today on the shooting range was over the time and they came up to us and they behave so rudely to us I told him whatever extra I will pay for it. Still they behaved so rudely. And I did pay extra money for the time I stayed and I promised myself I'm never gonna go back to this place. read more

The range has decent shooting facilities, but are in dire need of repairs as it looks like things are falling apart a bit. Their inventory is extremely low right now and their prices are extremely high. My main beef, and it seems to be the same with most people who go in there, is the rudeness and arrogance the staff. It seems like they hire kids without any quality social skills to serve the people but those skills are lacking, as they talk in a condescending manner to their customers. read more

Staff is extremely helpful & knowledgeable (*shoutout to Arthur especially, who made me feel very welcome & comfortable on my first foray into the rather confusing world of handguns). Range is nice, selection seems good (not having anything else to compare to) Watch out for the Groupon though.. offer says it's for two but actually it's only for one gun rental (I guess you're suppose to share?) if you each want your own gun+ammo it's another $41 and they are not very forthcoming with that information. Beretta dude needs to chill out Good experience tho, I believe I'll be back read more

I recently purchased a shotgun from Double Action. It was a smooth transaction and the particular staff member was very helpful and answered all the questions I asked. I had lots of questions too since it was my first time buying a gun of any kind. What did I buy? A Mossberg 590a1 SPX which comes with ghost ring rear sights, m16 style fiber optic front sight and an M9 bayonet, just to name a few things. It is a bad ass lead eatin' piece. read more

Had a good experience here previously with my rifle. Wanted to try out a pistol and partook their rental deal of a 9mm pistol with 50 rounds of ammunition. Not being familiar with pistols myself, I incorrectly trusted that the older gentleman helping me would have checked to ensure I received the right firearm. He did not, and as such I ended up with a pistol chambered in .40 cal. After a soft primer strike and two failure to ejects, I realized the issue was with the weapon and not myself or the ammunition. When brought to the attention of a staff member (different than the one who "helped" me originally), they seemed slightly amused at the mishap and gave me the correct pistol. Upon return of the rental, we were able to talk to the older gentleman who originally provided us with the incorrect caliber pistol. His response was along the lines of "well they all do look the same I guess". No apology or concern of the error. Luckily there was no physical harm as a result of this mistake. However, my girlfriend developed a strong sense of discomfort because of this situation when my goal was to teach her comfort and trust in firearms for self defense. Thoroughly disappointed in the lack of focus on this safety aspect as well as response by staff. An apology and expression of some concern for the mistake would have been sufficient. Visit occurred on 02Dec2017, sales clerk ID 45 as per receipt. read more

So disappointed in how we we're treated during this visit. The "range warden" was a piece of trash! My nephew just bought a pistol and is so excited to start shooting so we went here cause it's close. At first we were yelled at because wasn't waiting long enough in between firing. Then apparently we were having so much fun that went over our time so he came back in and told us to we were over our time. We apologized and he left, my nephew finished the clip he was shooting and the warden came back in, told my nephew to clear his weapon and then said "now get your sh_t and get the "F" out!" I was shocked that he spoke to a customer like that. I'm not one for "ignorance is bliss" but this guy should NOT be in any kind of customer service type of job! He was a terrible piece of garbage. Will never again return here as long as he works there. P.S. The gunsmith, Mo, is amazing at his job! Very knowledgeable and polite! Too bad ha has to work with that guy. read more

We decided to have an company outing at this range. We had ten people and only three spots at the rifle range so it was a little crowded. (No big deal) The hourly rate was overpriced along with every other item in the store. The staff was incredibly rude. I wouldn't recommend this range to anyone. The only reason we decided to shoot there was because of the cold weather. Save your money. Spend it somewhere else that actually appreciates it's customers. read more

This was the best experience ever. This was my first gun purchase. I didn't know much about what i was getting my self into, but I've been wanting a gun for a long time. I'm not going to lie I went to Target Sports on Woodward because it's literally around the corner from my house. Total idiots there and weren't helpful at all. So I walked out. I went to Double Action after a recommendation and it was the best experience ever. I walked in and was greeted right away and told them that I really didn't know much. An older gentleman was helping me and he was very nice and knowledgeable. Come to find out he was the manager. I don't know much about pistols so he helped me out to pick something for my first gun. After I chose what I wanted he called over someone else, his name was Nate. I wanted to add a site to my pistol and Nate was awesome and super knowledgeable. The manager never left so Nate and the manager stuck with me to the end. I spent a boat load of money and got what I wanted. So recommend this place and recommend speaking to Nate. read more

Stopped by to look at some prospect handguns as a first time buyer. It was crazy busy because you guess why. Even then it only took a couple minutes to talk to a salesperson. My dad used to go here all the time. read more

Personally, I have no complaints about this place, but I have some friends that say that they'll never return here. Specifically because of the staff. IMO, I think the guys behind the counter are just tired of dealing with the general public. If you're not well versed in firearms & (heaven forbid) have questions to ask. I think there's going to be issues. I do remember asking staff member about some specific bullets once. He Immediately gave me an attitude & told me I mean ammo, not bullets....to which I had to tell him that I DID mean bullets, because I was reloading. I think this is a shame. These guys should be doing everything they can to encourage new people to get involved in the shooting sports, & not turning them off with their egos. read more

Today for my husbands birthday we wanted to go to a gun range, as we have just recently taken a CCW course and we wanted to practice. I was shocked and embarrassed at how a staff member treated us today. He was an older man with a beard and when saw I was new he began to talk down to me and belittle me speaking to me like I shouldn't even have stepped foot in the store. I haven't been treated SO poorly by anyone like this in years. It was a terrible experience and I am so very disappointed as we were hoping to make this range our home to practice at. One young man was nice to us and seemed to indicate I should just shrug this guy off... but some how that also means that everyone just tolerated him and that behavior. Why??? Would an owner tolerate that kind of behavior??? read more

RUDE STAFF. These guys are hostile, intimidating, and rude. Not sure why, but everyone has a chip on their shoulder or just a general bully attitude. I was excited to try out their simulator, but the guy that was running it wouldn't stop running his mouth and commenting. That simulator charges by the MINUTE and 80% of the time he was just blabbing on. Not even about the scenarios we were in. You can't use your own ammo in the simulator, so expect to pay twice what you would normally pay. There are two counters, but no matter which counter you go to, it's the wrong one and they'll pass you to the next one. The range master is incredible rude and disrespectful. To whomever owns DA: Consider a revamp of staff, recurring revenue is more lucrative that generic advertising. read more

The range has decent shooting facilities, although it is quite dated. It's a shame that they put handgun shooters on the rifle range as many new shooters get shook up by the AR shooters. Prices are higher than big box stores, as expected; but with that we are supporting a local business and should be getting a more personal experience. Chances are you will! You'll be spoken down to if not totally ridiculed if you get the wrong employee! They all know who he is, and if you've been there more than once you will too! Because of him, I have not/will not purchase a firearm there. These reviews have mentioned him far back as 2012 and I cannot believe he is still assaulting the public. I'd go more often and would encourage more people to go if he was gone. However I will travel 35-45 min to be treated better. Someone needs customer service training. read more

I assess indoor gun ranges on a few points: 1.) Ventilation: it's been said that from a ventilation perspective, an indoor range is essentially a walk-in industrial fume hood with the firing line being the "sash". As such, a properly ventilated range will draw combustion related contaminants away from you, keeping your lungs and visibility clear. DA is above average; often you may actually get cold in the long gun range due to the air flow. Wear a hoodie if you're prone to getting cold quickly. 2.) Functionality: I should be able to shoot both long guns and handguns, and DA doesn't disappoint. In fact, they're the closest in the metro Detroit area that has a range over 25yards in length. There are several classes available, and there are adequate staging, waiting, and cleaning areas. They're open later than their nearest competition (Target Sports). 3.) Capacity: Wait times are minimal due to proper number of lanes for average patronage; parking is readily available due to the extra lot space in back. The long gun range will sometimes reach capacity on Fridays and before the hunting season, and you'll have an average wait of 15-20 minutes. If you're only there to shoot pistols, take advantage of their handgun range- it's rarely ever at capacity, and more often than not you'll have the place to yourself. 4.) Staff: All I require from staff is that they are knowledgeable, helpful, courteous and consistent. Unfortunately, DA staff is completely inconsistent- though they always have enough staff on hand, you may have to wait until one acknowledges you, and the flack they receive about their attitudes is warranted. 5.) Value: Range time is consistent with local pricing, and ammo can be brought in. Stock up elsewhere or be prepared to pay through the nose. People knock this place for the staff rudeness, racism, bigotry, whathaveyou. It's warranted, though about 90% of the time you go there you won't experience it. The easiest way to deal with it is to simply get in and get out- let them inspect your gun & ammo, abide by their rules, enjoy the range, and leave. Sure, it would be great to have a candid conversation with your local range employee and NOT feel like they're about to jump down your throat or say something that makes you cry for humanity; but, when you get right down to it, if you're not here for social hour, you can get in and shoot without having to say more than a few words to the employees. A female perspective: I have never been berated or talked down to this range, unlike others in the area. As someone who occasionally gets mistaken for a 12 yr old girl, I find this refreshing and comforting. This is the gun range I bring new female shooters to, and the only one I encouraged my new-shooter mom to go to. read more

I've rented guns here, shot my own, and never had a real problem with the staff. Range is nice, ventilation is excellent, and the store is well stocked. However, on one occasion recently, I was sitting at the table by the door, waiting for a couple of friends to arrive. At the opposite end of the table, 3 guys were done shooting and getting ready to leave. One of them opens a pistol case and lifts out a 1911 to show his friend. There was no mag in it and the hammer was down. I am fully aware this isn't tolerated, but before I could get the words out, "Hey, put that back in the case," one of the employees drew his gun on the guy and started screaming at him. I was in the middle and not happy about that. The owner hustled over and positioned himself next to me, but it took him a little longer than it should have taken to get the employee to reholster his weapon. Kudos to the owner for stepping up the way he did. Hopefully this was discussed at length with the employee. read more
