After Hurricane Florence here on the NC Coast, my former (rental) home had to be gutted and the prospects of finding a new home (or even storage for my belongings, because of the unique circumstances of the hurricane devastation) were dismal, according to other agents. Nevertheless (this is a true story !), one call to Margaret Hitchcock allowed me (through her efforts) to purchase a new home within a matter of hours of its listing and her follow up services were amazing (she handled everything incredibly efficiently and with minimal cost for me). AMANDA CAME TO MY DOOR AND TOLD ME SHE FELT THREATENED BASED ON WHAT WAS IN THE THREAD. THIS LADY CAME TO MY DOOR AND SAID SHE FELT THREATENED. THIS IS THE MOST CONNIVING, IMMORAL AND DISGUSTING ENCOUNTER I HAVE EVER HAD WITH A LANDLORD. PLEASE SHARE A little front story, the front and back steps to the home I live in owned by Coast Guard Master Chief Petty Officer Christopher Cole are unsafe and have been so for years, dating back to the prior tenants. The mattress in 2 of the bedrooms were worn and most likely decades old. The sliding doors had no locks, only pieces of plastic or wood in the track to secure them. One of the kitchen cabinets was so broken it had just been screwed shut to keep it from falling apart. Most of the cabinets were worn and needed updating. The "panty" was a dumping ground of the nastiest items, and not usable as a pantry. One window was labeled "broken" and "do not open", most windows were hard or impossible to open and missing screens. There were NO blinds or curtains on any of the upstairs windows. The chair pads on the dining room chairs were so worn and thin they did no good as a cushion. The couches were faded and worn to the effect that you just sank in them with no support. Coffee tables and dressers were worn and chipped and even had been covered in contact paper, which was peeling off. The dryer took 3 cycles to dry. But the absolute worst in the entire place was the carpet on the 32 steps running throughout the house! It was clearly old, stained and smelled awful! It was a very chemical, ammonia smell that just permeated the entire house! Most likely cat pee. There is no excuse for a rental home to have carpet in it that clearly needs to be ripped out and thrown away immediately. We had to go and buy boxes of scented carpet powder to put down on all the steps just to make it tolerable for the week. When relaying these issues to the management company, we got a text back saying, "We are sorry to hear of your disappointment. We hope, despite these concerns, you'll have a great stay." That's all! I would not rent from them again. The pictures on the website and condition of the home are certainly not up to date. And you can't even experience the smell through pictures! In the future, I will never again rent a property from a management company that will not put actual renter reviews for properties on their web site. I just hope future considering renters will be smarter than me and look up Yelp reviews first.
