We just had our basement ceiling replaced by this firm. Great communication, did the job early and the basement never looked better!

Buyer beware:…read more 1000sq' of ceramic tiles were to be demoed and removed, 3/4 x 4" Red Birch installed and finished by Jessy Wilson, J. Wilson Construction (Contractor), during the period of 10/24-11/4 for a price of $19,500 for demo and installation only. I picked the more expensive Red Birch species because of the beauty of the grain patterns as seen from above and at a distance. The wood was delivered and was allowed to acclimate to the indoor humidity for about three weeks before the demo and installation began. There were multiple discussions prior to accepting the contract regarding how particular I was going to be and my expectations about the wood flooring, coming from a furniture-building background. He understood my desire to look down on the floor and enjoy the beauty of this species. The contractor was on-board with all areas, so I went with the most expensive estimate. The estimate included temporarily moving/removing the small kitchen island, refrigerator, wine refrigerator, dishwasher, washer, and dryer. Below are the problems associated with the third and highest estimate, and currently uncompleted job: I highlighted many flaws as the job was proceeding, especially in the beginning, during, and after completion. The contractor was called back on the evening of completion because the dryer and dishwasher were not correctly reinstalled. The contractor came back the next day to walk through the floor installation issues found after he thought the job was complete, he said he would be back to address the below-highlighted issues after the holidays, it is now the end of June, with no contact. I have sent two emails and left two voicemails - Zero response, Ghosted! I have paid all but $500 of the agreed price, I did this, on his request, before completion because I was being kind by trying to help out a contractor that had another job beginning and needed to get his crew paid. During prior conversations, I felt comfortable that the contractor would honor his commitment to providing a high-quality installation even though I was paying in full, before the final inspection. All anyone asks is that a contractor performs the same quality work on your house as they would on their own, nothing less. The most egregious workmanship/quality issues are: 1) Replace boards in 4 locations that were cut wrong and not correctly tucked under door jams or quarter round. Replace boards under the dishwasher due to his incorrect installation of the dishwasher - causing leaks. The dishwasher has not worked correctly (continues to leak) since the contractor moved it. Replace the transition to the bathroom where the transition is split and not secured - causing a possible tripping hazard. 2) More than 75 locations were marked with large gaps between boards (lengthwise), some as wide as 3/32". Granted, factory processing inconsistency plays a factor with board width, but these were pointed out at the beginning and during the installation and nothing was done to correct it, e.g., using more nails to straighten boards or, applying a wood filler by trowel before sanding. There was an effort per customer request to address the large gaps in high-traffic areas by filling them with a mixture of glue and sawdust. This could have worked but, the contractor did not sand down many of the areas; because no finish products will ever be able to stick/absorb to glue sitting on top of the wood, those areas are now highlighted in day and night lighting conditions - they stick out like sore thumbs; causing me to put a rug over a couple areas. And, an installed board with a visible check that will snag a sock, will require replacement. 3) The final finish coat is inconsistent; it was supposed to be two coats, but it is evident that some areas only have one, areas are very inconsistent, and mop (applicator) drag and stop marks are highly visible in other locations. According to the wood supplier, I purchased enough finishing products when I purchased the flooring for two complete coats, however, I still have half of the products, in unopened containers. 4) Less of an issue but, shows that the contractor underestimated the time to properly complete the job; all floor registers were finished in place vs. finishing them separately - they are basically glued down and need to be cut out to be able to remove and clean below the floor register. Solution: The correct and proper resolution is to replace the improperly installed boards where the 4 gaps were left at door jams and under the front of the dishwasher, strip the finish, fill all cracks by troweling in wood putty to match the wood species, re-sand, refinish, and replace the improperly installed transition. There are enough leftover boards to do the replacements. Two labor estimates to remedy the above were provided by flooring-only installers: both are one week in duration at $4500 - $7500, since we will be displaced again, the hotel will be an additional $1000 - $1500.

I seriously did not want to write this as I really liked the guy who came to my house for estimates…read moreon a full bath and half bath remodel. I liked his suggestions and he seemed to listen to what I wanted, as well. He spent an hour talking and measuring and taking pictures and promised to "shoot me out" an estimate soon. We even talked briefly about some future projects I need to have done. I was so hopeful and looking forward to receiving his estimate. This was on March 25, 2023. Several weeks went by and I didn't hear anything so after three or four weeks, I contacted him via his Facebook business page on Messenger where I had contacted him before and he always got right back to me. Not this time. I gave it another couple weeks thinking maybe he was busy and then contacted him again. Still nothing. Finally, I gave up and moved on. I don't know why I never got an estimate for my job or why he ghosted me, but I was extremely disappointed in his way of doing business. It's not a good look. The least he could've done is let me know if he was unable to take on the job. He does impressive work if you can actually get an estimate and hire him. I'm writing this because I just want to let others know to be aware that there is a possibility you may not get an estimate or an explanation.

From the…read morevery first conversation, he demonstrated professionalism, deep expertise, and a genuine commitment to bringing our space back to life. Every step of the process was handled with care. He provided clear communication, thoughtful recommendations, and a level of craftsmanship that's increasingly rare. He didn't just "fix" things; he restored them with precision and pride, making the final result even better than the original. The team was punctual, respectful of our home, and incredibly organized. They kept the project on schedule, maintained a clean work environment, and made sure we understood what was happening at each stage. We wouldn't hesitate to hire them again or recommend them to anyone looking for top‑tier restoration work. If you want quality, integrity, and beautiful results, this is the contractor you want.

Marcus and his assistant, Devon, came out yesterday to repair our back deck. The deck was built 20…read moreyears ago without professional guidance, so some of the woodwork was kind of wonky. The top part of the deck, made from teak, is still fine, but all the rails (aside from the main supports) and bottom of the stairs were pine, so many of those parts needed replacement due to wood rot. Additionally, the slats that framed around the porch weren't attached properly, so Marcus took them all off and reattached them correctly and securely. He also removed an electrical outlet that wasn't working and capped off the wiring. The baseboards were also replaced with PVC. It was a full-day project, and these guys worked hard. I can't say enough for their professionalism--from the quality work they did (plus explaining everything to me), and beginning and ending the day with cordial words. Such politeness is not a give in these days. The day began with a friendly greeting and ended in the evening with, "Have a nice night," not to mention polite interactions throughout the day. They also cleaned up perfectly, removing all the old wood. Even though they went beyond what we discussed, and Marcus did the extra work (wooden slats that weren't attached properly and a piece of wood behind the stairs that was replaced with PVC which we hadn't talked about initially) Marcus stuck to his original estimate. ***I would recommend these guys without reservation.*** I will also add that their pricing was very fair with an estimate given ahead of time. It was an stress-free day. Thanks Marcus and Devon.

We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!
