Typical shoddy work you get at the worst therapy places with added billing nightmares. Here's a good tip: if you spend more time getting heat and ice than you do working with an actual therapist go somewhere else. If your results haven't improved after 3 or 4 visits, go somewhere else. If you seem to know more about what is going on with your type of injury/illness than they do, go somewhere else. I have had a lot of physical therapy in Chicago and Austin. I've been mulling over writing a review for Strickland for over two years now. After sustaining a TMJ injury I was sent there and promised by my doctor that they were the "best". I can not remember the name of my therapist but my time there (over 8 visits) consisted of heating pads and a less than ten minute massage that I was capable of doing myself. The only thing that seemed to help was a Tens machine which the therapist pulled out and used on me during ONE visit. Even though I told her it helped significantly, she never used it again. Because I did not show any progress in physical therapy my insurance quit covering my visits, but I was not informed of this until I had made 3 additional visits that I was left to pay for. When I received my bill I was shocked. I know that physical therapy is expensive - that is not what I was shocked about. My physical therapist had charged me for the use of the tens machine EVERY appointment and cited that she did this at EVERY appointment I had ever had. I was charged a good chunk of money for services that were not rendered and so was my insurance. When I called to speak with billing and tell them about the inaccuracy of my charges, they told me they would fix the bill and send it back out. Over 6 months, this is what happened, I'd call, tell them that the services they were charging for had never happened and they'd tell me to wait to pay until they fixed it. Eventually, billing told me to ignore the bills, because they were going to drop the charges. After that statement I quit receiving bills. Unfortunately, 3-6 months later I instead received a bill from a debt collector. Talk about bad service... lying about services rendered, incapable of following through on what they say they would do and then sending it all to debt collector... WOW NOW over two years later, they've called to tell me they are issuing a refund check and for a minute I was very hopeful that this was the case. BUT just like everything else, I feel as though it was a lie. It's been over a month and a half and I've received nothing in the mail. When I call them, they tell me it'll be sent out immediately, but just like with their billing issues, I'm sure I will most likely, never get the money they owe me. I half expect another letter from a debt collector for more services that I never had. *** QUICK EDIT - it's 2015 now, and no, I never received that refund. read more

I'll admit that I haven't been to many Physical Therapists. Therefore, I can't really compare to any other PTs around town. I did go to one and it was at a hospital and I recovered well. I was referred to this business by my sports medicine doctor. I've been pretty impressed by them. The staff at the front desk have been friendly and so is my PT Lesley Throckmorton. The place feels like you have entered into a fancy doctor's office with wooden floors and couches from a classic era. It's a busy office and I get the impression that sometimes that is a good thing. It means that they are highly recommended. My PT gives me the confidence that I'll get back to my rowing which has been a long and trying journey for me. read more

I got my ACL surgery done three months ago and Strickland physical therapy was recommended by my doctor. I wasn't sure in the beginning but l went there nevertheless, and got a tour of the facility. Their facility is not very big, they have 4 or 5 rooms for patient evaluations and one big room with all the equipment and weights. After reading some good reviews about Lesley, I booked my first appointment with her. She is a confident individual who knows her stuff, understood my priorities and patiently answered all my questions. After my surgery, I started getting my physio sessions from her and she has been my PT ever since (more than 3 months now). With the ACL surgery, I also got meniscus repair done, due to which my rehab was on a delayed protocol. Lesley was/is very systematic in following my doctor's guidelines and kept him informed with my progress before the doctor's appointment. She made sure that the workout routines are tailored according to my priorities, kept me motivated and pushed me to reach new heights every time. The staff at Strickland is also very friendly, they understand your insurance benefits and take care of all the processing without any issues. Bridget is extremely good with scheduling and makes sure that you get your preferred slots. Robert and Thomas are really efficient in getting your PT routine started as soon as you arrive. On two occasions, Stephanie worked as my PT and she did a great job too! On the whole Strickland physical therapy has been a great place. Update1 - I was walking with crutches for 5 weeks (no weight bearing) - From 6th week I started to put in weight on my foot and slowly started doing weight bearing exercises Update 2 - From 9th week, I started swimming taking it real slow I will update this ticket with more updates as I progress... read more

I was NOT happy about going to PT, but I have to say that I really enjoy going here. I'm the type of person that needs to work out regularly in order to keep my sanity and they have helped get me on my way back to where I used to be. My appreciation for that alone is worth the 5 stars! But PT strictly doing what it's supposed to do isn't all. Not only do I get to miss some work and hang out with great people, but I also feel like I'm getting a personal training session at the same time. :) Lesley knows her stuff and her personality, as well as everyone else's, makes it fun to be there...even if she inflicts a little pain on you (or a lot) . Christina is a student that has been working on my case with Lesley from the beginning. She is the one who goes through most of the exercises with me and I trust her just as much as I do Lesley. They are a fantastic team and I'm actually going to miss them and my workout time there when I'm done! The assistants up front are sweet as can be, as well as everyone else who takes care of me. I have absolutely no complaints....except for some of the soreness they cause after kicking my tail for a while. :) Bottom line: if you HAVE to go to PT, go here. read more

I'm sad to say I've visited several physical therapists over the years for chronic pain. I recently visited Strickland for an acute injury that ended up requiring surgery. My experience was not fabulous. Pros: - Close to my home in south Austin - Accepts insurance - Nice facility with private rooms when needed Cons: - Terrible scheduling: They told me the wrong appointment time multiple times, resulting in - Long wait times: even with the right appointment time, I hardly ever started on time - Rude and slow front desk staff - Horrible parking. There are very few spots and no backup lot. Pretty sad for a place people in pain are visiting. Walking very far with a labral tear sucked. - My therapist seemed inexperienced and to make matters worse, he pawned me off on his student. The student was SUPER nice and friendly, really the best person I dealt with there. But she was still learning and needed some guidance on how to treat me. Often times the actual therapist wasn't present. THEN I got billed for a full visit with a licensed therapist. I would have been fine with a student as I'm all for learning. But with a serious, complicated injury, the therapist should have been there at all times. Instead the student was forced to leave me and go ask questions to make sure she was treating me correctly. I ended up completing my therapy at another place and was much happier with the 1:1 attention, scheduling, wait time, staff and experience level. read more

I visited this location 4 times in 2011 and saw Smokey. He was helpful and his effort was much appreciated. What has turned into a nightmare was the billing. Have spent more time trying to get my overpayment back than I spent in the therapy. I was charged for stuff I did not receive and the local office agreed twice. But when proof of the fraudulent services was provided to the owner (Physiotherapy Associates) they sicked a bill collector onto me. I am still receiving harassing letters as of 5-8-2012. Mark Strickland is professional and extremely bright. My case is complicated and I have seen many PT's in the past. Mark continues to work toward a multi-dimensional approach recommending other providers to help treat the root problems (sleep MDs, dentists who specialize in severe jaw disorders etc.). He understands the complexity of myofascial/myalagia issues. I appreciate the concern and intellectual approach he brings to my treatment. I highly recommend Lexi Osteen. I recently met her at Strickland Physical Therapy Associates when my orthopedist recommended that I get physicAl therapy to improve weakness in my legs. Lexi really knows what she's doing! Over a period of six weeks she gradually worked me up to a series of exercises that targeted the problem in my legs and hips. And by the end of the sessions I was able to go on a family vacation to Seattle without need of wheelchairs or cane. Thank you so much!!! read more

I have been going to Strickland PT for about a year now. I suffer from a degenerative disease and physical therapy helps keep me moving. I see both Mark Strickland and Jason P and they are wonderful. The front desk staff and supporting techs are all great. By my second visit almost everyone in the place knew me by name which I find impressive. I know that people have complained about the billing but honestly the couple of times I have had an issue with the billing office(located elsewhere) the ladies at the front desk have been extremely helpful in getting the matter resolved for me. I've been to many physical therapy offices over the years and I can honestly say that Strickland Physical Therapy is at the top of my list. I worked with Erin at Strickland Physical Therapy and I was really blown away by how good she was. My previous experience with PT had been that I was a number and nothing more. Erin carefully showed me each exercise, helped me with them, and monitored my progress. One of the hardest things about the recovery process is feeling supported as you work to get better. By the grace of God, someone recommended Dr. Strickland to me 12 years ago and I have been a patient and fan ever since. If it were not for Dr. Strickland's excellent medical knowledge and care I physically would not have been able to make it through my pregnancies without his healing hands. Over the years I have ended up with some painful dislocations of my sacrum that Dr. Strickland has amazingly adjusted so I could function well during my pregnancies. One of the reasons I have been able to be open to additional children is because Dr. Strickland has been able to treat me so successfully. Dr. Strickland's staff is awesome as well. The front office has always tried to accommodate me and get me in when I am in need of help. All the PT technicians are helpful and friendly as well. I love everything about this office! read more

If you want lousy therapists, no results, and messed up billing for years, go here. They stretch out the evaluation period not doing any therapy except diagonostics for several sessions so you pay for at least several unnecessary sessions. The therapists are terrible, and don't really produce any results, and then they mess up your bills, and tell you its straight, and then 1.5 years later you get a bill, when you can no longer remember what happened and who told you it was paid up, and they blame it on insurance...... I note there are several other folks here who wrote the same problems I am noting. My advice is never go here!!!! read more

I have gone to Strickland for 15 years, believe it or not. I got hurt and was sent there, and they helped me sooo much I asked to be a private pay when my insurance released me. I have a chronic situation from an old injury and they keep me limber and able to work out now - even at 65! I can't say enough good things about Mark and his crew, except that over the years I've had probably every physical therapist there work on me, and their laying of hands, that is the physical manipulation of my muscles and joints, has always been the best. Although I paid for my visit to Strickland Physical Therapy Associates (and have proof on my credit card statement), they have sent my name to a debt collecting agency. I have faxed the copy of the receipt in several times, yet the manager has not called me back for years. The regional manager said she would drop the charge with the collection agency, but it still has not happened. I do not trust this business one bit. They are trying to collect payments twice. read more

I joined yelp to complain about this place. If you or someone in your family is injured, seek help elsewhere. My husband severely injured his sciatic nerve and spent two months in therapy at this establishment. At the end of these two months, they had "helped" him so much that he couldn't even sit in a chair. We switched to a different office of physical therapy and he started down the road to actually recovering almost instantly. When my husband showed his new therapists the prescribed treatment that Strickland/Phisotherapy recommended, the new therapist was horrified. These people actively prevented my husband's recovery and should be ashamed of themselves. As if that wasn't bad enough, then we started receiving the bills. SInce this office is just part of a chain, nobody in the office will actually be willing to help you figure out what all of these charges even mean. A few of the highlights include 43 dollars for a hot pack and several hundreds of dollars of random charges for visits that last about 15 minutes. This is not a reputable establishment interested in healing its patients. It is namely concerned with gouging its customers. I have almost joined yelp several different times over the years for different things. These people really just pushed me way too far. read more

I love the South Austin Stickland PT location on William Cannon. The facility is new and set up nicely to provide privacy to those patients who have lower back pain or issues. I like that I'm in a room with my awesome PT most of my appointment and if he needs to see how my lower back moves, I'm not sitting in a big open gym with other PT patients starring at my exposed back and buttocks. Mark Strickland has worked miracles for me, trying to keep me out of as much pain as possible after a botched jaw total joint replacement surgery. For someone who runs nearly 20 clinics, its amazing that he still takes the time he does with his patients. Due to the encouragement of Mark, I refused to accept the surgeons indifference to my pain and sought further answers. Turns out I have had a dislocated jaw joint for two years and I now have a great surgeon who can help. I saw a doctor four hours away and even he had heard of how wonderful Mark was. read more

I have been going to Strickland Physical Therapy Associates off and on for many years and they all have been extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The front desk is friendly and they really know their stuff when it comes to insurance. My last physical therapy sessions were with Jake. He found my trigger points and really worked out the extreme tightness I had especially in the piriformis and hip joints. My pain management physician stated he thought I didn't have piriformus syndrome and never manipulated this area to see if I did or didn't. Jake through manipulation really helped to educate me and manipulated this area to help eliminate the pain in this area. I also saw him for my back problems which he helped me with. His professionalism and empathy was very much appreciated. My husband had shoulder surgery and I recommended Jake to him and he too is very impressed with Jake. My husband and I would never think of going anywhere but Strickland Physical Therapy! read more
