I wavered on attending an OrangeTheory class for months before I finally pulled the trigger. I wish…read moreI had done so months earlier because I'm just a couple weeks in and is fabulous! Besides the workouts being on point, I've never belonged to a gym before where the instructors so genuinely care about their clients. I look forward to spending my mornings there and you feel so good when you leave after a class. After only a few sessions I boosted my subscription to the unlimited monthly. Ignore the previous reviewer who complained about needing to come early for the first session. It's stated explicitly several times when you register for your first (free!) class that you need to arrive early. They need to orient you to the space, the equipment, sign paperwork, etc. I'm sure there are liability issues making this not just their practice but a necessary policy. Anyone who would fault a business owner for that is clearly pretty self-important. Do yourself a favor and give OrangeTheory Swampscott a try!

HORRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICE…read more It was supposed to be my first class and I was genuinely excited to try it out but they didn't let me in the class. They have a very strict policy that you must arrive at least 30 minutes before the class starts. I arrived 23 minutes before. They said it is corporate policy and denied me access. No one ever told me before it was a strict 30 minutes or I would not get access in. To be a stickler over 7 minutes and turn down someone new is just rude. I am NEVER going back. By the way, I have friends who are OTF instructors at another location and they said that would never happen at their location because they allow new clients in up to 20 minutes before. SO this strict corporate policy is BS. The folks at this location have no sense of how to treat clients. While the first class is free you could not pay me to go back there.

Someone is going to fall in one of these rooms especially with the wet floors, as the only place to sit is on the toilet seat to get dressed. An 18" bench right outside each shower would be a big help. Very disappointed with how things were handled today at the Marblehead YMCA. All last summer and…read moreeven this past week, our kids were allowed to go down the slide without issue. Suddenly today (July 13 around 1:30 PM), we were told our daughter couldn't use the slide without passing a swim test -- something we were never informed about, and something that's not listed anywhere online. What's worse is that the rules seem to change depending on which lifeguard is working. When I asked for a full list of pool rules (just like I previously asked for slide/indoor pool hours), no one -- not the lifeguards or front desk staff -- could give me any answers. The so-called "manager" on duty refused to give her name, was incredibly rude, and wouldn't explain why the rules had changed or where I could even find them. Her only explanation was, "New year, new rules." That's not an acceptable - she was extremely unprofessional, disrespectful and rude! For the record, I even called in June to ask specifically about the indoor slide and was told nothing about swim tests or new restrictions. YMCA members deserve consistency, transparency, and basic respect. Right now, that's not what we're getting at the Marblehead location.

It's very possible that this is classic January busy-ness, but if you want a less packed gym, I'd recommend checking the app to see the crowd level. About 90% of the gym goers at the time were men so the women's locker room was very empty and all showers were available (4 showers which is more than some other locations). Overall the locker room was clean and the facility was nice, although the locker area was quite dark. The bathroom had some wet paper towels scattered around which was odd since there was no dispenser for them, but was otherwise relatively clean.

We visited on a Thursday evening at 6pm and the place was busy but not too packed yet. This was our first time at this location and we wanted to change our home gym but the lady at the desk was confused and gave us some bizarre information on how to go about that. We just checked in and carried on. The cardio equipment is set up in 2 rows spanning the length of the gym and there appears to be enough for everyone regardless of how busy they are. There is an area with free weights and actual squat racks with space to lay a mat out and workout. There is another area for abs and more free weights in that section. The equipment is laid out in a way that makes ideal sense based on muscle group (I've seen other PFs where machines are just haphazardly placed around) so this was a delight to see. At about 630pm the place was so busy most of the equipment was in use and there wasn't a single spot on the floor to stretch so I hopped back on the cardio equipment. After our workouts we hit up the Black Card Spa zone - I am so glad they have 3 cryo massage chairs. Those are great post-workout! All in all a great gym and I'm really glad its so close to our house.
