What I love about his work is that he takes the time to assess the client overall to determine which muscles are of primary importance to stretch and which muscles are of primary importance to strengthen. That is the first thing you want in a trainer is good detective work. He is patient and easy going with a strategic plan in mind to improve the client's performance and function for daily life routines while building a nice physique in the process! They have a big parking lot, but there were just so many people! I would guesstimate there are about 200 spaces and about that many people working out when I came. They had a couple of cool programs going on. I participated in half of the Zumba class then a spin class afterwards. They have plenty of cardio machines like treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. They were lots of weights too. After that I tried some of the weight machines. They also had an E-gym I'm pretty curious about. I will say the gym is kind of a maze the way it's built so I did get lost a few times. But it also just added more to being separated/sectioned off. It feels like there are ten different gyms all in one building which I did like!

The gym is big, but when it comes to the cardio and weight room, it feels claustrophobic when it's crowded. The men's restroom is located upstairs and is always kept clean. They do have a nice jacuzzi which I haven't used yet. Customer service is average which some employees greet you walking in and leaving and some don't which I don't take it seriously.

They are a small gym with 24 hour access. Matt was very easy to work with to gain access to the gym even though I arrived to Birmingham late on a weekend. They have expanded their equipment inventory since my last visit and remain well equipped for aerobic training (treadmills, stair climbers, bikes, Ergs, Ski-erg, etc.) as well as functional training balls, bands, sleds, etc.) while maintaining the character of a weightlifting gym with an ample supply of machines and free weights, benches and racks, as well as some slightly more esoteric offerings (Kabuki bar, ladder bar, belt squat machine). I have nothing negative to say about the gym at all. My personal preference is to have no music in a gym during off hours so that I can more easily hear what I want through headphones, but I suspect I am in the minority on that point.

We couldn't have asked for a smoother system. I think the thing that struck me most about this gym is that there was no "dude" energy or bad gym bro attitude where people tell you how to do things or stare or do any uncomfortable things to make you feel unwelcome. This is a beautiful thing and often absent in gym environments. As someone who's worked out with free weights for over 3 decades, I appreciate being left alone and not feeling uncomfortable. I imagine it would also be refreshing for the younger ladies as I remember getting hassled in my youth by guys like that. More gyms need to foster this environment and understand that girls lift also. Who knows, they may be working on something different or have information that you don't have. I wish there was a gym like this in my area, I would join in a heartbeat. Thanks for the pleasant, stress free workout environment!

Was a good place to workout before they "updated" the equipment. They greatly reduced the amount of…read moremachines to make room for free weights. The 30 minute circuit was removed from its area and now supplements the machines they removed so the gym doesn't look sparse. This means it is almost impossible to complete a 30 minute circuit in time (and keep your heart rate up) because you will have to wait for the people who camp out on the machines to rest between their 3 sets on one machine. The majority of people there camp out on machines texting or scrolling on phones while they rest. It takes awhile to complete muscle groups on machines because of this. Until this location brings back the dedicated 30 minute circuit and adds machines back, I will not return. Joining another gym next month. Sad about management's change to attract free weight body builders by losing members who prefer machines and a quick workout. I really liked it before the change and referred a lot of people there.

The owners and instructors are wonderful people and they always greet you by name. They also have a variety of classes including Barre Fusion (which is a combo of barre and yoga), yoga, circuit barre (more cardio) and ballet class (only classical ballet moves). They often have groupon specials which is great! I really like browsing in the boutique which serves as the entryway for the studio. They have workout clothes and also locally made jewelry and hair ties. Water and snacks are also available for purchase. I highly recommend taking a class (first class is free) at Grand Jete and I am sure that you will get hooked like I did!

The instructor was upbeat and encouraging without being too in your face. The studio itself is adorable. They have a mini boutique in the front with workout clothes and sticky socks. I would recommend getting the sticky socks if you are going to be a regular. I was slipping all over the carpet during planks. They have cubbies in the actual studio to hold all your belongings. At $20 per class I do feel the price is tad high in comparison to other group exercise classes. They do seem to offer Groupons occasionally though! If you're into Barre this is a great option!

I've been going to this particular location of orange theory for almost 2 years now and wow, I…read morecan't begin to explain just how monumental finding this gym has been in my life. I originally joined to get in shape for my wedding but ended up staying for the long haul because THIS WORKS YALL. Downtown OTF is, in my opinion, the superior one in the Birmingham area. Coach Avana and Nigel have what it takes to keep me engaged in class and always pushing to be better. I go 3 times a week, sometimes more and I saw results quickly. I'm no longer embarrassed to show my arms in sleeveless dresses and tops, and my muscles are more defined. I will caution you though, you get what you put into it. If you only come once a week you probably won't see results. This is something you have to work for (as is any workout facility). Going as much as I do has yielded a long term loss in body fat, toned legs and arms, and endurance IVE NEVER HAD, even when I played college soccer. I can run 5ks without even thinking about it now AND I AM NOT SOMEONE WHO LOVES TO RUN. Favorite things about OTF DOWNTOWN- there are so many classes to choose from that you don't get at other OTF or any other studio of any sort. The coaches and staff are top notch. It is always clean and in the showers they even provide hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They have complimentary hygiene products in all bathrooms for that day you forget your pony tail holder, deodorant, or tampon. First class is free so why not try it out?

I tried OT while I was traveling through Birmingham, and I've been wanting to try an OT studio in my hometown of Miami. I signed up for a class and was told to come in 45 minute prior to class, which going to other studios I knew that was way too much time. When I questioned it, they said 30 minutes prior was ok. I showed up before class and they completed paperwork, got me setup for a heart rate monitor, did a studio tour, and then introduced me to the coach (Avana) who showed me how the equipment worked and gave a brief overview of today's workout. Avana was an amazing coach, checked on you throughout the workout and kept you motivated along the way. So why not a complete 5 star experience? The heart rate system didn't work throughout the entire workout. The coach and the front desk team checked their system to see why it wasn't working and they couldn't remedy the problem. It really defeated the purpose of the OT system and workout because of the technical problem. It's hard to figure out how you need to modify how you are performing in your workout if their systems aren't working as they should be. Would I come back to OT? Probably, but it is for the staff alone. I don't fault them for faulty equipment.. but I do fault management for not keeping their systems up to date and maintained.
