I feel compelled to leave this review. My husband & I scheduled a call to find out more about the…read moreexecutive functioning services beyond booksmart could offer our daughter. We were familiar with their two different membership plans. The level 1 weekly rate is $134 and level 2 is $174. Level 1 is geared toward "students who are considering changing their work habits to be more confident and successful" and level 2 is for "students that may be resistant to changing work habits, have complex learning profiles or and/ or an urgent need for support". I included a picture from their website below. I fully expected to learn more about the two options, and decide which would be best in our situation. But only level 2 was presented to us. When I asked about level 1, we were told that the coaching level survey I filled out online (in about five minutes) classified my daughter as level 2. WAIT? WHAT? WHY? Furthermore I was told that because I indicated that my daughter has a diagnosis in that online survey, she would be level 2. Then I was told, if we wanted level 1, we would need management approval for an exception to be made. is that even legal? Is it ethical? At the very least it seemed unfair. The company advertises rates starting at $134 -but children can't qualify for that rate if you child has a diagnosis (ADHD, ASD, Dyslexia, Anxiety, etc). At least without approval. To me that seems wrong. I asked again, so we as parents can't decide which option to choose. And we were told no, we would need management approval to go with level 1, lower cost option. At this point I ended the call. The director of sales did call me after and I had a good conversation with her. I stated that I couldn't understand how these business practices were legal, ethical or fair. She assured me they were legal, ethical and fair. But we agreed to disagree. She thanked me for my feedback and was going to share it with management. At the end of the day, we are not going to move forward with beyond booksmart.

Why I Canceled Within The First 2 Sessions…read more - No systematic method: never seemed to be a plan for how the coach would assess where I am now, specific achievable goals, or how BBS could help me get there - Not personalized: the coach worked from assumptions rather than understanding my unique challenges through dialogue or people who know me. - Overpriced: Not willing to pay $156/ hour (session) for what was a weekly accountability session. It is tantamount to profiteering from people who are vulnerably approaching the company for help. Why I would not recommend (Bad business practices) - I was promised by Tessa that the first session would be a 15 min discovery call with my coach. The coach went over that time w/o consent and charged me $156 anyways. - It became Impossible to get someone on the phone once I actually requested a cancellation. - I was reimbursed less than logically expected with 0 explanations or opportunity to consent. In the end, I was charged $182/ hour (session). For those looking for help: I recommend trying out some of the many more affordable or options. Worse case scenario, you end up with a similar service while saving yourself a few thousand dollars. Back story if you are interested: I was recently diagnosed with ADHD as an adult after soliciting the test from my doctor upon realization that the challenges I was facing in my academic and professional roles throughout my entire life revolved around Executive Functioning. I hated the idea of relying on solely or permanently on medication so I immediately began searching for a therapist/ coach. After viewing several options that were much more affordable (Shimmer, TalkSpace, etc) I settled on BBS/ Smart Work Coaching.

Working with Trevor and Yash for MCAT coaching was an amazing experience. Whenever I had questions…read moreabout a certain topic/problem, adjusting my study schedule, or being overly neurotic about my progress, Yash was always just a text or call away to reassure me and answer my questions. For example, in the last few weeks of studying my AAMC full length scores progressed from a 516 to 519 to 516 to 513. The trend from a 519 to 513 definitely made me anxious, and it felt like I was hitting a slump in my studying. However, Yash was quick to let me know that full length scores aren't static, reassuring me that I'm scoring within the expected standard deviation around my average of 516. He told me that each full length is different in difficulty, advising me to take an extra day off each week to refocus myself and really hone in on why I might've got more questions wrong. This definitely helped clear my mind and I actually began to feel grateful for scoring a 513, because I was able to identify gaps in my content/test taking strategies that I didn't even know I had. Subsequently, my scores on the last two AAMC full lengths went back up from a 514 to 518! At the end of my studying, I felt satisfied that I've done everything I could to prepare for this test, and that no matter what happened on test day, I was confident in getting a score that would give me a good shot at an acceptance to medical school. Overall, I don't think I would've made it as far as I did without his support--Yash has been an amazing coach!

I am kind of confused with all of these positive reviews of trevor. I never leave reviews but felt…read moreobligated to because I felt kind of scammed by trevor. I spent over 1000 on tutoring services from him and they did not help me at all. Trevor was very hard to talk to, no small talk at all ever, so you feel like complete strangers the entire time. I felt awkward during our sessions and as if I was bothering him. I chose him from all of the good reviews he had, but ended up having the exact opposite experience... so wanted to warn you all.

Kevin tutors our high school sophomore in Honors Chemistry and math. I can't say enough about his…read moreprofessionalism, knowledge and attitude. My son looks forward to his sessions, prepares and is fully engaged. That, to me, is the best testament. Kevin tutors my child at home, is super responsive to email/chat/phone and is accommodating in advance of quizzes & special assignments. I find him to be super flexible. My son's grade went up by a full letter grade since starting his tutoring and is achieving A's in all the latest tests. He is also working with my son on the SAT Chemistry subject test. Kevin also helps with work habits and studying approach for these subjects --- beyond the content being studied. We plan on continuing with him for calculus & biology next year too since Kevin is well-rounded. I highly recommend Kevin for any high school student. I know he tutors college students at advanced levels and that should give you an idea of his knowledge. My wife and I are extremely pleased with his tutoring. More importantly, my son is. Don't think twice.

A bit about me and my teaching philosophy - Chemistry is really not so hard as it first appears to be. There are a few key concepts that I like to pass along that clarify and simplify the problem sets that students face. Sometimes it is a matter of being able to express a problem in mathematical terms. In others it is being able to visualize what happens in a reaction. After being pointed in the right direction, and with a little practice, most any student can excel in chemistry. After a 15 year career in chemistry, I now primarily practice Acupuncture in Brighton. I still love the subject, and enjoy tutoring students in Organic and General Chemistry, as well as biology and math. I was a teaching fellow at Boston University while earning a MS in organic synthesis. I let discussion and laboratory sections. I worked through problem sets with the students, and went over concepts from classroom discussions. I always enjoyed working with students. Maybe some of my enthusiasm for the sciences even rubbed off on them.
