I attended the Grand Opening recently and was amazed at the variety of subjects that this artist paints. From local city scenes to local musicians, lots of great things attract his eye. I and my local multiple award winning group, First Take featuring Rick Metz (www.RickMetz.com), as well as many of the musicians that regularly sit in with us, have been honored to be a subject of his a few times. It's always fun to wind up in a painting by a talented artist. It's a small space packed full of lots of paintings. Everything is available for sale at reasonable prices, so if you'd like something to add to your personal art collection, drop by to browse and see what catches your eye...I'm sure something will... I was surprised I hadn't heard about the Artists Co-Op before today! I learned about it from…read moreanother art group here in Reno and decided to check out the reception they were having for an exhibition entitled, "The Art of Words." When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by a kind lady who told me a bit about the co-op. I learned they have a new exhibition every month but display current members' art all the time. I had the feeling that the members have been a part of this for many years. I headed on back to the exhibition and passed through several rooms on the way there where I saw the members' artworks. When I reached the back room for the exhibition, I spent some time admiring how some artists interpreted "The Art of Words." I was mostly impressed with the pieces that were actually made out of the pages of books like dioramas. When a member and I chatted about portraits (which I enjoy painting), I was a little disappointed to learn they would never hold an exhibition of portraiture because "portraits don't sell." I'll keep an eye out for future exhibitions though, because I enjoy supporting local artists.

There were many thought-provoking and educational pieces. I love that the fruit and vegetables planted on site is accessible to everyone. I also love the floral mural and curtains in the lounge. Just purchased museum glasses for framing my paintings, and the visit could not have been more positive. I was just very thankful for how kindly I was treated. They have regular exhibits of works by local artists and really makes for an impressive welcome to residents and visitors who come to City Hall. It is located in the large lobby just outside of the City Council Chamber. The space is light and open and is a great venue for a wide variety of artwork. They have regular exhibitions that are on display throughout the year. The City of Reno website has information on current and past exhibits and dates and times for the Artist Receptions. The growing public art venues in Reno are one of the reasons this is a great place to live.
