Signed my grand daughter up because she gets nervous in heaver traffic. She does fine going to school and work but is apprehensive about starting classes at DMACC. When I asked how it was going and if they just picked her up from school she said that she didn't think her driving instructor was allowed close to any schools. It took me a second to get that comment. Turns out her 'older' instructor always makes comments about her looks and her clothes which she finds really creepy. Maybe others have better experience with other instructors but this was not a good fit for a teenage girl. read more

Go for Mallroy. He is calm, knowledgeable and a great instructor. He's well-trained on the state requirements and the test routes. He knows how to safely train rookie drivers with clear instructions. I am glad I got to learn the basics from him. I drive confidently in and around Ames, Iowa :) Only concern I had with Streetsmarts was their hefty fees. I got charged $400 for 6 classes :( As they were the only driving school in Ames, I had no choice. read more

Both of my kids have learned to drive through street smarts. Currently the classroom instruction is offered as 30 online modules taken at your own pace (but no more than 30 modules per day). Behind the wheel is done with one other student driver in the vehicle. read more

I guess your experience will depend on which instructor you get. We signed up through the southeast Polk school district and did not have a good learning experience. We have done a lot of driving time with our child but the driver instructor would contradict what was stated in videos and be harsh in his driving instructions. He even brake-checked a car while my dd was driving! He also touched the other girls' arm while she was driving. Go with Drive with Cops (we couldn't get in but loved them for previous drivers) or Parent Taught Driver's Ed. read more

We thought the classes were informative with a great instructor. My daughter also enjoyed her driving instructor. She gave great critiques on problem areas as well as encouragement. Overall, a very smooth and pleasant experiance and I recommend Street Smarts to other parents. read more

Had a wonderful experience, the btw that was with my kid was very knowledgeable about driving. One day the other kid that was driving with my child didn't show up for the scheduled drive time, he handled the situation very nicely. He told us that for safety reasons he can not drive alone in the car with my child, gave us multiple options for us to get around this unexpected situation. So I ended up in the car with my child so they could drive which I didn't mind at all. During the drive my kid made a couple mistakes, the instructor handled it very nicely. I hate to admit it but I even learned a couple of things while in the car. read more

My son just completed their program. The instructor in the class room was very great, however, the person whom he drove with was extremely rude. Dwayne I believe his name was. My son signed up for a time that worked for us and the driving instructor kept changing it without notice. Even made him drive on a day he did not have his permit simply because he didn't want to stay for the scheduled time. Also there was one time we need to change the time because of problems with another student (which he signed up to NOT drive with) and I had to pay the $25.00 and the driving instructor wanted to kick him out of the class all together which is not procedure. He also texted and played on his phone most of the time he was driving with my son. When it's time for my youngest to take drivers ed we will definitely use Drive with Cops instead!!! read more
