I did not expect to see some of the world's greatest artists in Des Moines. Instead, it was an elite venue at an incredible price point. Located in Ingersoll Park, 20 minutes from Ankeny and 10 minutes from the State Capitol, the Art Center is a must-see, beautiful venue with spectacular works, considerable spaces, and gorgeous grounds. Amazingly, it is free. Loved the Samantha Box "Caribbean Dreams" exhibit, a fantastic collection of photography and art. I also loved works by Stella ("Interlagos"), Kiefer ("untitled"), Francis ("Summer #2"), and Schnabel. We also liked the postcard exhibit. The building has an awesome vibe and incredible visuals throughout its spectacular architecture. There is a great gift shop and discounted items near the entrance. ISU hosts an annual event by inviting families of past students that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year, four families were invited to participate as the ROTC, faculty, the Gold Star Hall team, active and retired veterans honored in grand fashion the lives lost to protect our freedoms and values. Meredith Deroy Winter Schuyler Wheeler John Fuller Kennith Tapscott The level of effort into the planning, development of presentations, respect, pageantry, order and decorum were stunning. As a Gold Star family, we were humbled. This event exceeded our wildest imagination! Thank you Iowa State University, the Gold Star Hall, ROTC and all who took time out to honor those who died in combat 75 years ago. Regarding the display photo: All these photos, articles and documents (except the replacement medals) were discovered after 74 years in storage unbeknownst to anyone. Meredith's fiancé, Betty Ewing, also a student at ISU, held onto these items after his death. Betty passed away in 1984. During a recent move by her daughter, the box with all these items were discovered. May God continue to bless Iowa State University, our active duty soldiers and veterans!

The competition was in the new FFA building which was really nice. The auditorium was huge and had a small stage for the countdown round. Upstairs, there was a student lounge that our school took over from the college kids. Ha, ha, ha... Our son who was dx with autism at 3 yrs old went to public school K-5. While his teachers were very…read morekind and attentive, after 6 yrs. of "school" he came out unable to read, write or do basic math. In fact, he had actually regressed from when he started. I don't blame the teachers, but rather how the district takes the $$$ for a child and rather than try to help the child learn, he is "babysat" and passed along grade to grade without the time and effort being put in to assist him in a way he can really learn. Due to Covid schools shut down, so we began homeschooling. There was no way he could benefit from "virtual" learning & due to sensory issues wearing a face mask all day wasn't an option. It was then we realized he'd learned nothing in school. We blamed ourselves for not being more aware, and yet we depended on the educational system we paid (high) taxes for to do it's job. It failed our son. We had no idea where to start with him or where he was academically. We floundered around for a year before finding Educational Resources. The owner Judy explained to us that he needed to be fully assessed to find out where he was in his ability to learn. We were walked through how he would begin to learn "language" so he could sound out letters and eventually spell and learn to speak more clearly and with confidence. It's a slow, steady process, but E.R.A. has helped us to understand where to start with our son so we can homeschool him effectively. He attends as much as we can afford (2x weekly for tutoring) and soon he will attend another day. Even though he is now a teenager, we still have every hope for his independent future. Educational Resources gave us a jumping off place to help our son and we are very grateful. Some may not care for Judy's no nonsense demeanor (as mentioned in other reviews), but we appreciate her candor and honest opinions. She has years of education and experience working with children of all ages---many with disabilities. She was a long time public school educator so she understands the system, how it works and doesn't work so well sometimes. She's willing to work with the schools to help all children who are struggling in subjects or areas by offering them the one on one help they need through her quality programs taught by top notch staff. This isn't an instant fix for every child. It is expensive (quality staff is paid well for good reason). Each child progresses at their own pace and we certainly don't expect our child to catch up to his age appropriate grade level after six years in a few months. But, we highly recommend Educational Resources because we feel it is and will continue to help our son live his best life.
