I spent about an hour with him in his shop, surrounded by pugs, chopping it up sharing stories, while he troubleshooted the issue. After a few tests, he figured out what was happening, recommended I buy a $20 preamp to fix it, then sent me on my way with a handshake and a smile. It was quite the enjoyable experience. You can tell he cares about what he does, that he takes pride in his work, and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to vintage audio equipment. *He's also a man that enjoys a good story, so if you have one, come prepared to share.* I personally value vinyl. It's a beautiful analogue tech that produces sound using magnets and emf's translated from a needle cruising on plastic. It's crazy to me that someone had the idea for it, let alone that it actually works. Yet it remains. Not for the nostalgia or efficiency; but for the warmth of the sound, for the collectibility and sense of ownership, for the love of music. I was looking for someone who held a similar sentiment. You wouldn't want someone who hates cars to be your mechanic. I decided to call Dr. Dan after reading some reviews, in which pretty much everyone suggests he the best. And he still kept my money despite my doing any work and then using used parts. Horrible business and lesson learned.
