Friendly staff offered help and pointed out the doorbell by the staircase to use if we needed help and no one was around. It was clean, organized and there were vendors in some of the booths refreshing their inventory. Free on-street parking today (Sunday) made it easy too. We would stop back when in the area again.

To make a long story short, they were out of my first choice on the menu. As I was considering what else to order, the owner came up from behind and made a snide comment and then walked away. The beauty of Western Mass is summed up in the view of the Connecticut River from the bridge, especially during foliage season. But I digress, back to the Freight House, my favored stop on my tours. It's a worn place, antiques lining its broad porch and spilling over into the neighboring area with cement and stone yard ornaments. Don't be deterred! Inside you'll find rooms stuffed with antique brick-a-brac, but make your way to a stool at the food counter. Service is prompt and personable - well, of course, there's only a handful of stools. The prices are fair, and I love this unassuming oasis and the folks that work here, so I tip generously. I've sampled most of the menu items, and always been satisfied. But the hidden gems are the homemade pies. I love a good pie, and most pies don't measure up. I look for a great crust, flakey on top and bottom. Then I want a good filling, full of authentic flavor, not cloyingly sweet, or runny, or gelatinous. Tough to find? Yup! Found it here, at Freight House, every time. Great pie (and food), a cup of coffee, and I'm off to the French King bridge, the Quabbin, and the open road.

The furniture was decent but I can't imagine anyone would buy them. There were old books every where and even a couple of rare finds like some old playboys . Lol. The whole time I was there I listened to the owner talk about how great he was and how amazing his collection was. The Sturbridge Flea Market is one shop in the larger Sturbridge Marketplace At the Falls building…read more It's on the higher floor, close to the road, so the higher you can park the closer you are (valuable advice when the sun is beating down in the summer). The store seems to be built with the wares of different vendors, but one central register to pay. They are split floors within the shop - a lower level with more modern collectibles, a higher level with clothing, and a main level with larger items. It's one of those places you have no idea what you're going to find and what treasure you'll walk out with.
