The owners and staff are extra friendly. They make you want to visit. Bobs homemade Fudge is so good. My favorite has always been Charlie Brown, peanut butter and chocolate fudge, but this month Bob made Raspberry Truffle...oh my gosh I could have eaten the whole thing in one sitting! I have placed restraints on myself and only cut a 1/3 inch sliver so I can enjoy a piece each day until it's gone. We picked up some bacon from Engler Beef and a loaf of sourdough from Pence farms all in one stop. They offer souvenirs and groceries. Come to find out, in this small, remote mountain town, there is a store that sells, among many other things, THE BEST fudge you will ever have, in a variety of flavors. This homemade fudge is primo! My personal favorites are cookies and cream - I love all things cookies and cream - and the traditional chocolate fudge. They also have other flavors like rocky road, dark chocolate with salted caramel, peppermint bark, and others. So, SO good. They ship as well, you can order on their website. We were able to stay near the general store at a cabin and the store was very convenient! It has all the essentials and more. Don't forget to buy some of their homemade fudge! That and their chili was delicious. The owners are very sweet and have a loving dog named Pup that walks around. We will make sure to always make a stop here whenever we are in the area. read more

What a WONDERFUL fantastic place!! They treat hikers (and all of their guests) so so so well. The fudge, frozen burritos, and snacks from their store are very tasty and fresh, and the showers, laundry facilities, and beds have everything a hiker needs (including toiletries, towels, loaner clothes, etc). I'm totally indebted to the owners of this establishmen!! Our grandson is here, from Germany, to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. He stopped here, after exiting the trail at the Sonora Pass, and found an extraordinary generosity, kindness and caring here!! He was surprised, delighted and overwhelmed to be afforded all the amenities provided for PCT hikers. He thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meals, snacks, drinks and yummy treats he could purchase and then enjoy at the inviting tables on the extensive deck area. Our first text from him stated he was relaxing seated on the front porch! Welcoming hospitality even provided the use of a large painted sign seeking a ride back to the PCT! Judging by their new friendly Facebook page, welcoming website, and their recent banners advertising live music this weekend - it seems like it's in good hands. We've been a fan of this spot for a while and it's great to learn that the Strawberry General Store is being well loved and that it continues to be a beloved community spot. The Strawberry General Store is a lifesaver. As a frequent Pinecrest camper my family and I are used to having to run out to get last minute items. However on our recent trip SGS pulled extra duty, and they were there when we needed them. In addition to the essentials the fudge is AWESOME but I wish they had the Chewbaca during the summer. I placed an online order after Thanksgiving, not sure how long processing and shipping times would be. (I mean, there are small operation and need holiday time, too.) I received my order really fast. I had some pre-order items and one of the owners, Gina, was quick to email me about them. One came in early, so she shipped it ahead of the others. Thanks, Gina! This store is under new owners and Wow do they go above and beyond . Not only does it have your basic needs but fresh pots of soup, fun souvenirs but the staff ( owners ) were great. We were camping and needed more gas for the generator, so we had to start heading down the hill to buy a gas can to start , the owner offered the one he had and said we can return on Sunday was we were headed home. I've been visiting the Strawberry General Store my whole life (since the late 70's) and it's has its ups and downs with the ownership changes. I'm so so grateful for the new owners! They've optimized the beauty of the interior and clearly put a lot of good thought in to stocking it well. We especially love the hot chocolate bar! One of the main reasons we stopped here was because of all the Yelp reviews for friendliness of staff. Friendliness of staff? I was met by a very grumpy older gentleman whose basic response to every price inquiry was "15 dollars" (there are very few price tags on items). Our group grew exasperated with the high prices of novelty items and decided to just grab some beer for the dinner we were preparing that evening. 2 6-packs of beer that normally would be around nine dollars at a Sonora grocery store were now $15 each, of course. While we expect prices to be slightly higher as we get more remote, this is simply price gouging the tourists. If the prices were only moderately higher, and the gentleman manning the register was even slightly friendly, we would consider making this a regular stop. For now we will just load up on supplies in Sonora on our way up to the mountains and bypass this establishment. read more

How awesome is a cool general store in almost the middle of nowhere? Strawberry General Store is a great outpost in the in the high Sierra. I stop by every time I'm nearby and make sure I spend $15-20...even if I don't need anything (gotta support the mountain community!)
