It's a 4.5 for me.
I'd confidently say this is one of Melbourne's most unexpectedly good dining experiences. Everything works here. The food, service and surroundings are uniformly excellent. And, you get history and education as well plus see the odd well known face. The only surprising thing is that it wasn't completely full during our visit
This is the dining room Victoria's Parliamentarians use. It's outstanding. I had the seafood laksa which was listed as a medium sized dish. It was huge and brimming with beautiful seafood. Flavours were lovely and it was a very substantial meal indeed. It was fantastic value at $28.
My companions loved their meals too. As our server said, this is the food that's served to all the top politicians in the state and so it is exceedingly good.
Our Langhi Ghiran riesling, one of my favorites, went beautifully with our food. We were too full for dessert and just had a cheese platter which was terrific with good variety and just the right size. I was worried the coffee would be ordinary but the opposite was the case. It was excellent. Like seriously good coffee and expertly made.
The surroundings here are olde world. The restaurant is located in the middle of Parliament House and has real style with very high ceilings and lots of woodwork and other period features. Being here is a real treat.
Our servers here today were superb. They knew the menu back the front. Their advice was spot on every time. They were unfailingly polite and very efficient. Seriously impressive people.
It's a lot of fun here. Such an unusual but unmissable Melbourne experience.
