The Strand Theatre is one of the oldest theatre's in the United States and it's located right in downtown Delaware. The strand is also a nonprofit theatre, which is really cool I'm guessing that's what keeps the prices for going to see a movie there so low. Speaking of prices General Admisson after 6 is $6.50 per person and a steal. I went a few weeks back to see Fast and Furious 7 on opening night and the movie was placed in the upstairs theatre and it was packed with tweens and 20 somethings that grew up on the franchise. I didn't check out the concession stand as I had just eaten dinner at 1808 across the street. I would like to see the theatre cleaned up after the showing as there was popcorn and spilled soda on the floor, but it's a minor complaint. Support your local theatre! read more

I've lived in Delaware over 4 years and finally made it to the movies. This is an old theater and doesn't have the modern reclining seats that newer theaters do but you won't miss them because of the nostalgia you feel here. Went for a 5:30 showing on a Saturday and couldn't beat the price of $5/ticket. You can actually afford to buy concessions at that price. Don't let the inconvenience of parking in downtown Delaware deter you from going out. I definitely plan on making it out to the movies more often. read more

The wifey and I have been going to Strand to see all the new releases for years now. When we first moved to Columbus from Chicago we visited the standard AMC or Rave theaters. $40 plus bucks later we watched an okay movie in a crowded typical atmosphere. Yay. Then we found Strand. Great prices, great popcorn, and usual drink offerings. Love the vintage hometown feel of this theater. $15 bucks later we saw an okay movie in a charming and friendly theater with yummy fresh popcorn. Can't beat the price and atmosphere. read more

When a friend suggested we go up to Delaware to see a movie, I was a little confused, but the news of $6 tickets for a first run movie got my attention. After heading to the Strand, wow, I'm really glad we did. This is an old 1920s vintage theatre that is in the process of being restored to its' former glory. Already you walk in to the main theatre and are treated to a beautiful facade, a fully operational pipe organ, and a seating area that manages to be cozy without feeling cramped. There are pictures around the building of the theatre in its' historical heyday, and nice touches like the cleaned up and restored projectors, speakers, and fixtures positioned around the theatre for patrons to check out and appreciate. I admit, going up to Delaware for every first run show would be a stretch...but for special occasions, I can absolutely see us heading back up to take in more shows. read more

Love having a theater in downtown Delaware, you don't have to travel far to see the top playing movies. Prices are comparable to other theaters. It has never been overcrowded and uncomfortable. The seats aren't to most comfortable but it is an older small theater. Strand Theater is a fun place to go if your looking to stay close to home on a Friday night and not fight the Columbus crowds. read more

Cute theater, with lots of history. I hear it may even be haunted, and is included in the Delaware ghost hunt every year? Anyway, they have good popcorn, nice big theaters, average old chairs. Good combo price for the kids on concessions. They seem to work well with area schools for movie nights. They also have a bunch of offerings in the summer for kids. read more

Did you know the Strand Theatre is haunted? There's a woman who roams the theatre looking for her seat. She apparently is always wearing a red dress, thus the staff of the Strand have called her the "woman in the red dress." Spoooky! Every odd year Delaware's Northwest Neighborhood Association does a Ghost Walk around some of the historic residences of the area. This year it started at the Strand Theatre with a talk from "Weird Ohio" author James Willis. Other than the awesome local collaborations The Strand does, it also is a great movie theatre that has stood the test of time. Prices are still affordable, movies are still new releases, and they're keeping with the times by providing updates and facade renovations when needed. I am a sucker for these old-time movie houses that respect the "art" of cinema more than the "bidness" of collecting ticket & concessionaire dollars, but ... This place is awesome. I saw a 5th generation remake (A Star is Born -- the Cooper / Gaga version) and the movie was made better by the venue. It is just off this college town's main drag (Sandusky) parking is easy, it is a beautiful place to enjoy a film surrounded by a nice bar (er, uh sorry gastropub) and a bar, and a wonderful coffee shop hidden in an antique store. I love a good movie, but I love a great deal even more! So, when perusing the internet looking up show times for "Frozen", I noticed a theater in downtown Delaware named "The Strand". I jumped to their website and was pleasantly surprised to see that since our movie started at 5:30, it was a matinee and tickets so tickets were a mere $4.50! Love that it is owned by Ohio Wesleyan as well. Love to support local! (star 1). Now, I'm not intimately familiar with the downtown area in Delaware, but I do know parking in small, downtown areas is usually a block-circling nightmare! A quick jump to their website however, provided all I needed to know about where to park, when to (and when not to) feed the meters and where to park even though it's marked not to, to avoid being towed or ticketed. Most helpful! Once at the theater, we had a small line queuing up outside the ticketing area (there are three screens here), but the wonderful attendant providing the tickets was cheerful and polite, all the while moving the line with skill and perfection. And yes; it was only $13.50 (!!) for the three of us and yes; our "business only" parking spot was safe to park in on a Saturday evening. No worries, easy peasey! (star 2) Once inside we queued again for popcorn and drinks. There was a nice selection of the basics you would expect (although to my son's disappointment, no Icee machine). Fresh popcorn, sodas, a small selection of candies, nachos etc. We opted for the Family Pack, which supplied an XL popcorn (refills for a nominal charge)2 XL or 4 small sodas (we chose the 4 to limit the sugar-soda high for our 7 Y.O.) and choice of 2 $1.00 candies (M&M's, fruit snacks, etc) My son wasn't interested in any off these so I asked to just have her pass them out to another kiddo in line and I opted to buy him the $2.50 Dots he wanted instead. She traded the Dots out for us at no additional cost. Wow. It's rare to see that kind of customer service response when special consideration isn't requested! Oh, and did I haven't shared the best part yet; 1-XL popcorn (extra butter), 4 small sodas and the box od Dots; $16.00, yes, only $16.00!! (star 3) The theater was just as I remember the small, downtown theater in my hometown. The seats were a bit clunky and not close to the Barcolounger-style seats in the newer theaters. I can imagine for a longer movie might get a bit uncomfortable. But the floors weren't sticky (yay!), the sound was great, and I could actually see available seats even though we arrived about 3 minutes after the lights dimmed; no LED runway lighting to stare at while trying to sneak a peek at an open seat! For our needs and the money, it was a home run! (star 4) So, will we be headed back to downtown Delaware for a movie again, you betcha! The only 2 issues that kept that 5th star on hold for now were: First, their website. I searched and searched for the actual street address and could not find it anywhere on the website! I had to loop out for another Google search. I could have called (they have the number there) but we were heading out the door and I didn't want to risk it) Second, the bathrooms. Small, which I expected, but hey could have used some "primping" before the movie let out to shine them up a bit, just sayin'... Overall though, I am in love with The Strand in downtown Delaware! Looking forward to the next time we have a day free for a movie. I'll head north and save the hassle of Polaris (and $9.00!) and enjoy a stress-free time viewing my movies on the (little) big screen! read more

If you like historic theaters and supporting your downtown this is the place for you. I would much rather go here in a large multiplex.

This place is awesome! They are always improving and have great prices. Love to eat across the street at 1808 then catch a movie. It's a great date night. They always have the newest movies and are always the nicest people working. Only one thing the seats are a little uncomfortable for a long movie. This theatre is nothing short of amazing. It has a lovely classic 1920s feel and the seats are very comfortable. I've always felt that the staff was very friendly. It's located in a great portion of Delaware that isn't too crowded and lends a lot to "classic old down town" vibe. Plus, the popcorn is really good. read more

I love the strand theater. You can keep your reclining seat(it just makes me fall asleep), I don't need alcohol to see a movie. Keep your high prices and unruly theater goers. all I need is my popcorn and a good movie. I can see 2 movies for the price of 1 at the other theaters, plus I live close so I save gas.. read more
