Straightforward Fence installed a Certainteed Imperial Select Cedar Select fence. I purchased over 350' of fence which cost over 20k.  When they first started the install they installed one of the 4 sides and they installed it wrong. The spacing between the post and the semi private slats were significantly different and it was noticeable installed wromg.  I asked them to stop and the owner came out and agreed the fence wasnt right and they fixed the problem (they blamed it on the fence but they fixed it so no hard feelings).  Then the picks that certainteed sent had very noticeable coloring issues which certainteed replaced so straightforward fence had to take the fence apart to correct the discolored slats/picks (certainteed paid straightforward to correct the issue).  I will say they did correct all the issues that came up (but I did owe them a ton of money still so they kind of had to to get the final payment).  So the install, though rocky, they did a good job.   Now the issue I have is that the fence post caps blew off in a storm in 2018 and my neighbors ran a few over with their lawn mower and others just couldn't be found.  It took no less than 7 or 8 calls and multiple emails before they would return my calls.  I only wanted to purchase the pieces and have them shipped direct to me.  Why would they not want the business? Fast foward, 2019 a I needed a couple replacement pieces again because my son threw a baseball threw one of the slats/picks and again they refuse to return my calls or emails.   I spent over 20k for a fence and you would hope with that kind of investment that you can not only get it installed correctly but some degree of customer service and access to replacement parts when you need it (certainteed doesnt sell direct).  Also if something went wrong with the install and they got their final payment I doubt they would have corrected the issue by their lack of responsiveness.  I never said a bad word about them but honestly, once they get your final payment dont expect them to ever come back or return your calls read more

Absolutely terrible company to deal with, zero communication from office staff and refused to come out to correct a number of issues. From my first impression I thought the office staff was completely a nightmare, but the sales guy and owner sounded professional and knowledgeable so I figured that I may have to deal with some office screw ups but I would at least have a quality job done. What a mistake. The quote was finalized and ordered in the beginning of April and I was told it would take 3 months to get the materials in due to manufacturing/shipping delays. Sure, no problem. Four months pass without hearing anything so I call for an update. No one knows anything and I have to play phone tag with several people over multiple days, only to find out that they have no idea when the install might happen "it could be weeks it could be months." Coming up on five months I give them another call and the materials came had come in the week prior, but they were damaged. When could I expect replacement materials? "Eh it could be weeks, it could be months." A week later I get a call asking if I'd be available in 2 days for the install, sure no problem (curious where the new undamaged fence came from but not wanting to question a good thing). I go out the next day to take a look at my freshly installed fence in the day light and find a large patch of my yard is now a concrete block, bent fence pieces installed, concrete slathered on a portion of my blue stone patio, and a 12 to 14ft run of fence installed crooked. I call the office to try and have someone come out to correct the issues, but they want pictures first. Ok no problem, send pictures along with an email detailing the problems. No response. Days later, another call another email and more pictures. Again, no response. Save your money and your time, there are dozens of decent fence companies out there...this isn't one of them. read more

Had them put a fence around my backyard 7 years ago. Good value and workmanship. Needed an additional gate put in on a sloped part of my yard. They had a gate made to match the slope and installed it perfectly. They also fixed a loose post on an existing gate for me at no additional cost. Communication was great up until the installation. Office staff was professional, friendly and very responsive. When the installers came, they removed the old stockade fence and set up the new, white vinyl fence. The installers were polite and answered my questions but it looked like they used old, rusty metal rods in the fence posts that required them. I also wasn't happy that they cleaned their equipment (with cement and stones) onto my lawn after using my hose to wash them out. I have patches of gravel and cement throughout my yard. I had been given a paper survey on the installers to complete and return to the company. Instead, I emailed the company (only Marta's email was found on their website) and I sent pictures along with my complaints. Marta called me back around 8pm that night! I had said that I found the latch to be awkward to open/close without a handle. She tried to explain to me how it is made to be easily opened/closed with one hand, but I couldn't "see" it in my mind so she offered to come by and show me. Marta came a couple of days later, as promised, and I showed her the sloppy cement around the posts on my patio, the gravel/cement in the yard, and the awkwardness of the gate. She showed me how the latch is supposed to work but suggested that the hinges be tightened so that the gate close automatically without my having to pull it shut behind me or push it shut on my way out. She offered to have Gary come out and try to clean up the cement on the patio, tighten the hinges, and install a handle on the gate. That was a month ago; no follow up, which may just be an oversight so I will reach back out to her. All in all, the price was comparable to other estimates I had received, but the installation should be less sloppy and respectful of the customer's property. read more

We have been wanting to get a new fence for a very long time. We began the process in March 2021 when we removed over 23 hedges, two stories high. Within those hedges was an old chain-link fence and also a wooden fence running along the back of the property line. We called several fencing companies for estimates. They came out but they never provided us with an estimate. The only company who actually follow through and actually took the time to care about us a Straightforward Fence. They provided us with a prompt estimate, And they followed up with us very quickly to make sure that we had everything done that we needed. They explained the permit process, which was easy to follow. They provided us with the date and time they would be here. They were here exactly on that date and time. The fence was done exactly in the timeframe they gave. They removed the old fence and installed the new fence within two business days and it is absolutely stunning! First let me say that a few years ago we spent almost $10,000 on a new fence. They did a phenomenal and we were very happy with the end result. They definitely earned a five star rating. The one star review is a result of my interaction with the company this past month. Two sections of the fence need to be replaced because a neighbors dog spooked some deer and it resulted in some damage. I called the company and was asked to take pics and email them right away. I did and never heard back. I waited a week and called back. They confirmed that they received the pictures but the owner, Gary, was very busy and he would get back to me. I wait another week and called AGAIN. I was told Gary was very busy and that the fence was no long under warranty and that we would have to pay to have the fence fixed. I responded that I figured we would have to pay and that wasn't an issue. She basically told me that the job was too small and I would be better off contacting another company. After a moment of silence on my end I thanked her for her help. I ended the conversation stating that we were ready to install more fencing on the other side of our property and that I would take her advice and give our business to someone else. read more

Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this company! They are very responsive when you are about to spend a ton of money, but radio silent if you need repairs. I fully expected to need repairs as I live in a treed environment and stated that upfront. I was assured they could come out if necessary. What I didn't expect is to have the fence disintegrate in certain areas or just break apart. This fence is only 2 years old and I've had nothing but problems with it. There is no warranty or anything after spending in excess of $35k. I have to go out all the time with zip ties and try to repair it myself or hire others as this company is nonresponsive. It was a total waste of money for a shoddy product that I was told could withstand the force of 900 pounds. It can't even withstand the force of 50 pounds it seems. I'm very disappointed and disgusted to say the least!!! And, I might add my dogs have gotten out of this fence multiple times because of all of the areas of breakage. read more

Zero stars for this asshole. Had a truck on both sides of the street not leaving enough room for traffic to pass through. One woman pulled up with kids in the car and asked him to move one of his trucks so she could get by. There was plenty of room to put both trucks on one side of the road but he felt he was more important than the people who travel on the street. He refused to move and he started laughing at her. They were standing in the middle of the road talking when she pulled up and completely refused to move the truck so she could get by. I have no idea if this guy does good work or not but his public interaction is shit. That should be a red flag to go somewhere else. Please don't do business with people who can't have a general respect for the public. read more

We needed a new fence in the spring when a truck went through our existing one. Two other companies told us that "we picked the wrong time of year" to install a fence (as if we had a choice). That was their excuse for being non-responsive. Not this company! They were quick to send someone out for the estimate, and sat down with us to discuss the options (not sell us on something we didn't want). We had gotten two other estimates (after much begging) and Straightforward Fence was considerably lower. They provided all the paperwork needed for the permit. They gave us a time frame, and were right on. The fence was installed when they promised - in one day - and it looks fantastic. It's been up for 2 months and we love it. work done: Removed and replaces 241' of fence along property line. Replaced stockade fence with 6' cedar capped fence. The fence looks amazing and the experience was great. After moving into the house a year and a half ago my wife and i thought it was time to address the run down fence along one side of our property line. I went about it in the usual fashion and got four different estimates. Gary came right away and was able to give estimate without me being there. The estimate was the best combination of quality and value. I communicated with Marta and Deb at there office to confirm details and chose straight forward fence. The day of the install came and the crew was very attentive and did a great job. I'm very happy i went with straight forward fence and would highly recommend them. the only down side had more to do with township that required two permits to replace an existing fence. read more

Everyone at Straight Forward fence has a disdain for customers. From the moment I begin with them they were pushy, demanding and unhelpful. My neighbor began the process and once I get involved it was if they were the only fence company in town. They were scheduled to call me one morning at 10 am. I had not received the call at that time.I waited 30 minutes, still no call. I finally called their office. The person answering was rude, argumentative and dismissive. I finally got connected to Gary, (I assume a manager or owner) the individual whom I had the 10 am call scheduled. I asked him why he was late calling me and why a courtesy call about being late wasn't made (Good customer service companies understand this). No apology, just ignored my comment. I got very upset at this point after some back and forth I cancelled the order. I asked him if business was so good he can just walk away for a good order? He called me a pain in ass and hung up. The fence was installed less then a year ago and the main gate is sagging already (never been hit or damaged in anyway). Also some of the main rails are splitting. The owner (Gary) strongly implied I was overreacting. It took them 5 weeks to get someone out to fix it. The guy who came out was very professional and did the best he ...could without tearing an entire section of fence out and reinstalling the posts. Thanks to him for trying. THe fence now has some metal braces permanently in place to straighten it up. Not what I was hoping for from a $4000 fence. Gary the owner was excellent to work with and I had a good feeling with this company to do this big job. The installers were very nice, worked very hard, and did great work. Replaced a 50 foot section of chain link with black aluminum by my inground pool. Job looks really great, especially considering unevenness of land, and non-level concrete run. Price was competitive, and discounts for Angie's List AND cash pay. Downside- it was a 'small' job, so Gary took care of it, but we had to wait 7 weeks; we couldn't reschedule the date without losing more time. Some minor cleanup issues with metal shavings, but not serious. All in all, I am VERY satisfied with his work. read more

I have been calling them for over a month for service but no luck. A lot of my pickets were stolen when they came out due to a storm and I need to replace them. They keep telling me that we cannot tell you when we will come but really does it take more than a month to come and check it out? Had company remove a chainlink fence and install a 6ft wood fence with a 5ft transition in middle as well as a gate in one section. The price was on the high end, but they are only company who agreed to transition. Obtaining the quote was an easy process, and installation was scheduled within 2 weeks. my neighbor had these people install a fence right along side mine, now I have trees and wild bushes growing between the fences, contacting the township they said it was ok, so seeing they feel that way I am not doing a thing to the mess and will allow it to grow and bust the main poles holding it up ( they never poured concrete footers rather just pounded them into the ground ( 18" deep ) in time they will break off also where his fence connects to the house again without use of concrete the main gate is now falling apart, granted the PVC fence looks good but won't hold up over time, sloppy workmanship and the crew doing the install were having arguments among themselves that would make a truck driver blush ! read more

Options were not fully explained to me... They discriminated against me because I was financing with them and assumed I wanted a cheaper chain link fence look in the back.. The first guy I met at my property who did the estimate said that black chain link would be virtually invisible so I said I wanted that in the back. They never told me I had a choice in color piping- so I thought it didn't come in black- she had just said"it's gonna be galvanized piping ok?". Now I got the ugly galvanized piping and it looks terrible. I found out from the installer that I could have gotten it in black.. Since the gate was in black - Later that day when I complained she said" I thought you wanted to save $$" - I never said that.. She kept offering me other things to upgrade to..Never black piping!! I said I would pay the difference now in materials if they replaced it. They said no--they would charge me in full for labor and parts.. A reputable company would want their customer to be happy - wouldn't they? The owner also went to my property without my permission while I filled out the application for financing which they said had to be done in person!! (Why??)
