My wife and I are past the age of taking on large, physically challenging projects on our home so…read morewhen our old-growth redwood-sided home and ipe deck needed refurbishing, we started looking for a painting company that could do the work well and not break the bank. As it happened, a young woman I work with told me her fiance is a painter. I was dubious at first thinking I would rather have a more experienced (read older) person who understood the idiosyncrasies of washing and protecting wood. However, after discussions with my co-worker, I found out that although her finance is a young man, he is the beneficiary of being the fourth generation of a venerable and highly respected family of painters and access to those many years of knowledge and experience. So my wife and I decided to roll the dice and I am so happy we did. The work was difficult due to excessive mold that is prevalent in the wooded and shaded area in which our home resides. It took them two times to get the mold off the softer shingles and then they had to sand them to bring back the grain. The ipe deck proved equally as challenging but was met with the same expertise. To further complicate matters, my wife chose three colors of stains for different surfaces but the painters took in those and all other requests and delivered what I would call nothing less than a masterpiece. The house and deck look incredible, the clean-up was perfect and we are confident that we will enjoy years of maintenance-free wear. Lastly, and almost as important, is the easy and professional manner in which our painters communicated with us. Whether by phone or email, we were always kept up to date with what work was done, what was scheduled for the future and when we could expect it to be done. I highly recommend Renaissance Painting and will use them in the future. Good luck to you on your project. Bob M., Freshwater, CA

The process and the results were again fantastic! The initial bid price was reasonable in our assessment and with a comparison. The final price was exactly the initial bid price with no uplifts, change orders or other surprises, despite some adaptations needed. The materials were all top quality. The equipment included scaffolding with some well-done ground-level engineering for level and stable footing on our sloped lot. The preparations included much masking and some disassembly of gutters and downspouts, all of which was done with skill and patience. The painting itself was all beautifully done with proper equipment and skilled technique: siding, windows, doors, gutters/downspouts, decks, deck rail and fencing... Wow, it all just pops it looks so nice, and now with another ten years or more protection from the elements. The crew was professional, courteous, safety-conscious and efficient. All comments, requests and observations that we made were accepted and acted on with no hesitation. Glenn Hamanaka, his manager James and the whole crew were a pleasure to interact with. Working with Hamanaka Painting for this challenging house-painting job was a very positive experience, once again. We are satisfied beyond expectations with the results. We appreciated the clear communication throughout by Treg and also from Troy Combs with the printed estimate - and the cost in comparison to other bids - and his helpful consulting on paint color. The power wash, detailed hand-brushed paint work, careful attention to removing/replacing light fixtures and caulking where needed and focus on doing only one job at a time meant our house was a priority. Treg's attention to detail and careful clean up at the end was excellent. We were pleased with every aspect of Fine Line's communication and work performance.

They took care to protect my solar panels, which never would've contemplated doing, removed and carefully placed my chimes and other attached objects where they wouldn't get harmed (or painted), and the team did a great job! They were reliable: showing up at the expected time every morning and working a full day. It wasn't cheap, but it's what I expected, and the work justified it. Also, they were great with my crazy, crazy dogs!

By the time I went with Tino, identified and incorporated all the details required to do the job (exterior-repainting) correctly. He recognized how truly thirsty for paint the wood was and recommended more than usual gallons needed to do the job right and hit the southern exposed, moldy side heavy. He invested the extra time to prep the rusted nail heads that would have continued to bleed ruining the new paint job. He re-caulked the window seals to prevent water damage. He identified the work that was necessary before painting which my carpenter accomplished. I had several color choices printed out using Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer program (hint- if you use it take your house photo on a gray day). I had narrowed my color choices and asked Tino's advice. So many painters don't like to give their opinion but Tino has a good eye. I wanted the new colors not to be the basic safe two color house. Something a bit more daring that would stop folks in their tracks to appreciate the color pallet on the house. Tino is honest and knows when pastels and warm colors are clashing, when trim should be tamed and eves accented. Together we nailed it! I am so happy with his work. It was accomplished within 5 days! My home is no longer dying of thirst, thanks to Tino, it is now cheery and crisp! Sunshine Painting is affordable and well worth the investment.

Update: after several weeks and numerous attempts, Josh has not tied up the loose ends of…read morereassembling my playhouse and moving it back to where it was prior to the job. He did some other sloppy handyman work (see pic of bunk bed he reassembled with missing screws and bolts in the wrong places) but totally avoided completion of putting my things back. Additionally, a heavy wrought iron chair, a kindling wood box and patio table were not restored to their original places on the side porch. As you can see it would be difficult for someone who is legitimately disabled to do. There is also minor unfinished paint spots, on the side. When my 11 year old daughter dragged my salvaged headboard around to the side of the house out of view I texted Josh if he "knew anything about it". In a bizarre twist he interpreted that as an accusation of theft. This guy already claimed he had tools stolen out of the back of his truck while on the job. Feeling bad, I gave him $100 cash for his loss and his workers got $50 gift cards each. Later on he found his missing tools with his worker who he said was actually his cousin. This guy apparently has a history of going off the deep end regarding theft... weird. I wonder what happened to him. Because I had asked about my headboard he decided to "punish" me by ignoring my requests to put the playhouse back. Then it got even weirder. He complained to me how rude I was that I did not share my pot with him. Things got worse with the imagined accusations of theft and not sharing my marijuana with him. Bizarre. At this point after a lot of headache I had to update my review to reflect the problematic issues that I am now facing. I am disabled and a single mom, I paid for the job he won't finish and now I have to file a claim with the court system because I have to hire someone else else to help finish putting everything back he refused to. He called me petty because I told him he was leaving me with no other option but to submit a formal complaint with the contractor's state licensing board. I am very uncomfortable with this man returning to my property. It's intimidating and a very depressing situation. I would steer clear of this guy, he has issues that go way beyond imaginary accusations of theft. 2nd update (later in the day): After reviewing my security cameras Joshua Forman did in fact return to trespass on my property to shove the playhouse against the house so my daughter couldn't open the door and left the slide detached in the dirt. Fortunately, my long time landscaper helped put some things back so I will reconsider the practicality of taking legal action. I will however report his unprofessional and disgusting behavior to the state contractors licensing board. I had to make a police report for his trespassing, what a bully!!!
