Air Conditioned Car - Stourbridge Line

So glad we chose this as our Father's Day activity. Was a wonderful 2.5 hour ride that followed the Lackawaxen River for a good portion of the time. All cars are beautifully restored and maintained; two air conditioned and two with windows (some) that opened. Staff were exceptionally friendly and informative.

Little known fact : secretly, the Poconos are a steampunk PARADISE!! The 1st US steamtrain was the Stourbridge Lion, and the replica that used to sit in the Smithsonian now resides next to Main St., Honesdale. Climb around on that one, take some pics in costume, then take a short but sweet train ride here, supporting a rough area's economy AND your fantasies simultaneously! Wheee! For some reason, as a kid I managed to wrangle a free ride every year by volunteering with the local boy scouts.. I know Im TECHnically a girl but.. ok, fine, I did it for the free railroad cap! Excursion map from Honesdale, through White Mills&Hawley, and on to Lackawaxen http://www.thestourbridgeline.com/excursiontrains.html but the schedules are actually best seen from the Wayne County tourist site here: http://www.waynecountycc.com/?itemCategory=29876&siteid=210&priorId=0&banner=a

We had reservations for this tour and made sure that we took their "sunset tour". Price was fair, they have a big parking lot around their office. We were fortunate enough to have Captain Mike as our tour guide. He was very informative and knowledgeable about the history of this lake, where I found out that this humongous lake is man-made. Taking this tour after a very busy, adventurous and celebratory day was well worth it. If you happen to be in the area, I recommend that you try it.

We arrived early prior our schedule and we were told by the associate to be in the dock 10 minutes prior boarding. It has a porta potty by the huge parking lot and were suggested to use it before going to the lake. Arriving earlier gave us half hour to enjoy the pedestrian walk path by the lake . A beautiful sight to behold. If only we have time, there is a walking trail along. The tour was enjoyable, our guide was amazing. The ride gave us the chance to explore the history behind this man made lake. We solved the relaxation we craved through this boat trip for this weekend. An enjoyable ride.

The rail cars have a 4-person configuration, they're all fitted with an electric motor and of course you can manually pedal if you choose to. They offer lap belts and harnesses for smaller kids to keep them safe but as for adults, you don't need to be fastened because you roll along at a casual pace. The rail cars start off coupled but get uncoupled after a couple crossings. The staff are kind and welcoming, very informative and add to the whole experience. The scenery is gorgeous, especially in late spring (We went 5/29/25) when everything is green, lush and blooming. The guides stop you along the way to see bald eagles and their nests perched high across the river. We also stopped at a hydroelectric power plant and they gave us a brief history and explained its functionality. They encourage you to pack some food along the ride which we did and it made the great experience even better. The staff provide a cooler filled with drinks and ice. It's a really fun and enjoyable experience to go through crossings and experiences the wildlife in their habitat all while snacking an enjoying cold drinks. I highly recommend Pennsylvania Rail Bike.

They answered any questions and communicated well about safety. The rail was a really unique way to see the beautiful river and nature; we saw deer up close and a bald eagle! It's nice that they have the electric option too. Keeping up with everyone else using the electric is a good workout if you're just pedaling like normal! If you are vacationing in the area this is a must activity

DBW is one of the best equipped weightlifting gyms I've ever seen. Mike has dumbbells up to 200 lbs (yes, 200, that's not a misprint) and even a tibialis anterior machine (a what?). There's no indoor pool or track, but I don't care. There's a more than adequate selection and volume of cardio equipment. Mike's wife, Alex, has also incorporated her tanning and nail salon business into the facility. But the weights and weightlifting machines are what really stand out. The bad: Many members are in the bad habit of leaving weights on the bars and machines. I would estimate that at any given time except, perhaps, shortly after opening in the morning, more than half of the commonly used machines have weights left on them. Unloading 100 lb plates or stacks of 45's (clearly not left by a rookie who doesn't know any better) is an annoyance for myself, but could be an impossibility for a woman or a person of small stature. The ugly: Most of Mikes bars, even the curl bars, have gotten bent, some so seriously as to be virtually unusable. This is presumably due to abuse by overzealous meat heads, but I'm sure that happens at all commercial gyms. This causes the center of mass of the bar to be off-center such that, if any significant amount of weight is loaded on the bar, it will rotate in one's hands. At best, this is an inconvenient annoyance. At worst, when doing any type of pressing movement with a significant weight, the unexpected rotation could cause loss of control and injury. Perhaps there are sturdier bars available? The final word: An outstandingly well-equipped gym, especially for a town the size of Honesdale.
