Definitely a hidden gem! Located in Plymouth, this cute winery is a must visit. When you pull up to the spot, you enter on gravel road and Park accordingly. You can check in the bar inside and either taste there or taste outside. I definitely recommend tasting outside. You could sit on the deck and taste there, or walk further down to one of their picnic tables. Either way, you will overlook the most beautiful view of the sky, the Green hills. To say the least, the wine was delicious! A must try on their menu are the soup dumplings. We went on a chilly day but the warmth and the hardiness of the dumplings hit the spot! Joey was great! Came in on a Saturday around noon. (A warning - we Apple Mapped our way from placerville and we got taken down a small one lane road - Bell road....it was winding, rough and went across a few "bridges-Imma thinking Apple took us the back way. lol but we made it!! If it's Bell road off of Shenandoah road then thats the most traveled way). We came for a tasting and some Georgian food (kachipuri -cheese bread and khinkali-soup dumplings. All the wines were so great we joined the club for the Georgian wines. Our sommelier was quietly nice but so informative. The tasting area is also very chill. The music was also sooooo nice and played at the right volume (Beatles, clampton) wonderful!!! We truly enjoy this type of winery as it is soooo comfortable. read more

The views are stunning, but unfortunately, that's the only positive thing about this place. The service was terrible, yet they have mandatory tips. I ended up paying nearly $100 in tips for a very sub-par experience. The food was disappointing: the meat in the shashlik was raw, and we were served only 3 portions despite paying for 4. When you order multiple portions of the same dish, they pile everything onto one communal plate, forcing you to divide the food yourself instead of giving everyone their own plate. To make matters worse, they use disposable paper plates and cheap plastic tables. They also don't accept contactless payments--only physical cards or cash. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was just bad. I definitely won't be coming back. read more

This year we changed our stop time. Instead of the usual Sunday members day during Nevada Day weekend, we stopped on Friday at 11a. We got our usual great service, and it was sweet we were the only ones for a while. Joey and Gio are so knowledgeable about their wines. Just two days before our visit, I saw Joey post the new food menu. So of course we tried most of it. Khachapuri was on my list- simple version a cheese boat. A Georgian dish of soft baked bread filled with ooey gooey melted cheese, topped with butter and a raw egg. This did not disappoint. The khinkali dumplings are massive and delicious. Mtsvadi chicken was tender with so much flavor. For a light dish, the summer salad of fresh tomatoes and cucumber was another great choice. The tasting room has fabulous outdoor spaces to enjoy a tasting and food. Plenty of parking. Please don't feed Simba. read more

Great casual winery with a really warm and friendly atmosphere. We met the owner David and his son Joey was our host for the wine tasting. We learned about their family history and about the vineyard and its production. We sat outside and enjoyed their extensive wine tasting menu. Joey poured us some extra wines that were opened that day too. There were people with kids on a picnic blankets enjoying the day on the grass and others with their dogs. It's family and dog friendly. Giorgi was our wine pourer and we learned so much history of Georgian wine and wine industry in general. Great service and wonderful conversations! We visited story on a trip to the region just for wine tasting. Of the 8 wineries that we visit, this was probably my favorite even with the rain that happened to hit that morning. It's down a small road and that allows them to have beautiful views as you try their wine. We tasted seven different wines and ended up buying three. The food was also amazing. First time trying Story Winery, last time trying Story Winery. Took family of 4 there for wine tasting. They brought us one menu listing their wines. When asked for a particular wine to taste we were told they just brought what they wanted to serve us. Did not care for any of the wines poured so was not able to taste what I wanted. So of course we did not buy anything. The pour was so tiny it was barely a sip. Never been served such a small amount during a wine tasting. The waiter was courteous but did not discuss any of the wines. Our GPS took us up this long winding narrow dirt road only to find out we should have come in from another direction. Nothing on their website warning customers about that. Would have been nice to know! So sorry I brought my visiting family to such a disappointing place. read more

Thought this would be worthy of a re-review. The first one I wrote was over 10 years ago in 2009! Have been here too many times to count and have introduced friends to this spot who became members. The last time I visited was mid-January for a wine pickup - they were fairly busy, we had a new server and she seemed overwhelmed. A bit off the beaten path, but you will be rewarded with a most magnificent view of a valley, probably one of the most picturesque picnic spots you will find in the area. The tasting room reminds me a bit of a treehouse - small, wooden, complete with woodpecker holes on the sides. The outdoor patio area is spacious enough with easy access to the tasting room. What I like about Story is the Zinfandel. The vines here are dry farmed - meaning all the water the fruit gets is based on rainfall only. Some of the vines are over 100 years old which lends itself to a more concentrated flavor. Story has new owners as of a few years ago and now has Georgian wine - the country, not the state. Very different from anything I've had in California. I had heard that they also imported ceramic urns to produce wines, I am looking forward to seeing what wine will be produced using this style! read more

Always a new experience at story winery. Beautiful property and I must say that the food is absolutely amazing and unique. The wine is very good but they just need more help. Very short staffed so waited longer than appropriate. I was a bit disappointed that we paid for two $15 tasting fees after paying $85 for food and buying a $35 bottle of brandy. We hope in the future at least one tasting can be deducted with a food purchase. read more

The winery isn't big so I'd recommend making reservations, especially on a busy weekend. Since I dislike crowds and waiting, I chose to visit on a Monday. The winery had several tables outdoor with more than 6 feet of distance. The view was excellent. My strategy was almost perfect except I was not expecting 50 degrees weather at 1PM. ----Wine & flights---- I had an urge to order all 3 flights, but decided to just order 2 instead. 4 of us had 2 flights. Zin isn't my favorite so when the owner Dave announced that "This is Zinfandel country!" I was thinking "Oh crap~" Sure enough, one flight was nothing but zin. The zin tasted better than my previous experiences, but I still would not prefer it simply because zin and I are not compatible (lol). Most of our group liked the Picnic Hill Vineyard Zin the best. For me, the Syrah was my favorite! ----Winemaking & Qvevri---- As other customers left and we were the last table around, we got a special tour when winemaker George (from the country Georgia) showed us the empty qvevri (clay vessel) underground. This is traditional Georgian-style fermentation winemaking that goes back 8,000 years. This was truly unique and stood out from other wineries I've been to. ----Hospitality---- George was our server. What an honor to have the winemaker serve us wine flights! I felt bad that George had to bring out all 60 glasses just for our table. Lol. After the special tour, Dave told us his stories while some of us tasted a few more wines... We stayed way past their business hours, but I digress. I had such an amazing experience! Great friends, cool wines, excellent view, friendly hosts~ We gotta count our blessings in life. Would love to visit again~ :) read more

Even on a drizzly gray day over Veteran's Day weekend, the view at Story is stunning and the winemaker was especially accommodating, moving our group closer to a heater without us even having to ask. The Georgian wines were all unique though we ended up bringing home several of the California-style wines, including an impressive Rose. What an incredible experience we had !!! The grounds were amazing , the wine was so delicious, and the owners and stuff were so welcoming !!!! It's so rare that you could find a place like that. I am not a big fan of touristy places with large crowds , so to me this was perfect setting. We just settled under the tree for wine tasting , brought some cheese and crackers and enjoyed a quite afternoon with small group of friends. AMAZING!!!! The whole experience wrapped up in one word. Not hard to find but be warned the road up does get narrow. Better yet, get a DD or get an uber because ain't no one gonna be driving after tasting here. The whole grounds are absolutely stunning and you're immediately greeted by the beautiful Rottweiler, Simba. They have a pretty extensive tasting list which I really enjoyed and we definitely got our moneys worth with the tasting. David took such great care of us and we had such a good time chatting with him. I loved how passionate he was to share about their wine and Georgian history. Something really amazing about this place ( other than Simba and and the views and the wines ) is that they make some of their wines in Georgian Clay pots underground! It's truly amazing to learn about and the you taste and feel the familial and natural vibes that envelop this beautiful place. The kind folks at Borjon Winery recommended we check out Story and their Georgian method of wine making in clay pots. We are so glad we went! The grounds are absolutely lovely and overlook a beautiful valley. Large trees shade the tasting area, providing nice cool conditions on a hot day. Simba, the winery dog, it a total sweetie and will come sit with you while you taste wine. The wines were unlike any we had tasted before and were all delicious. Service was warm and friendly. We felt like we learned a lot about each wine we sampled. We will definitely go back for more wine tasting! read more
