Ruggero is always hospitable and never forgets his club members as we appreciate his excellent vintner skills. I highly recommend visiting the winery and enjoy the various specialty wines alongside Ruggerio's pizza and pastas if scheduled accordingly. The winery is a little over an hour's drive from the Sacramento metro area but well worth the time.

Our designated driver was treated to an Arnold Palmer, much better than just his usual bottle of water. I thought their wines were pretty reasonably priced, even for non-members. You need to buy at least $60 worth of wine to waive the $15 tasting price - I appreciate that they put that right at the top of the menu so there's no guessing. The tasting was really generous with good pours so even if we hadn't bought wine I would have felt it was worth it. Tracy took great care of us, answering all our questions and keeping our water and wine glasses filled. It was a wonderful, relaxing day on the beautiful property.

The only time to do it is when I feel strongly that something is wrong. Not even the panoramic view can save Skinner anymore, and that used to be my favorite part. The wine is not as good as it used to be, either. Customer service has gone downhill over the years and is now some of the worst I've ever experienced in my life. If you have mobility issues of any kind, please be warned before coming here. This was our last stop during this year's Passport weekend a few months ago. I know, why didn't I review before? I should have. I don't have an excuse other than being behind in my reviewing as a way of life on Yelp. I was also and continue to be embarrassed. Reading this might cause second hand embarrassment, fair warning. I have been having ongoing back (sciatica) issues which can make it painful to stand or walk for prolonged periods, and I was really going through it on the day I was last here. So, I decided to use the handrail and try to go down the stairs to the tasting area. I really should have used the ramp (I did on my way out, undaunted), but instead slowly made my way down the stairs trying not to wince. I probably just looked like another drunk fat girl having trouble with stairs. And in fact, I did indeed to one staff member in particular. She clearly knew nothing about wine, and one wonders why she even found herself working here. When pouring for me and my friends, she gave me a tiny pour in comparison. I know I probably looked down at it and frowned, being tired, in pain, and wondering uhhh why? Her response to this was to laugh loudly at me and tell me that I was clearly drunk walking down the stairs like that and didn't need anymore wine. She was watching me, she said. (Watching me struggle down the stairs. What a nice person.) She continued to laugh thinking she was so funny and superior. Yikes on bikes. Girl, when I tell you I was shocked I mean I was stunned silent. I didn't know what to say or do. Not only did I feel embarrassed for myself but I felt embarrassed for her. Why would you do that to someone? Someone you don't know? My friends were kind and distracting and made me feel better, and I didn't want to cause a scene so I didn't say much of anything else to her. I just wanted her to go away, to be frank. I know she couldn't know what I was feeling if I didn't say so but you know what? It does not matter. What she did was not only hideously rude and unprofessional. It. was. dangerous. You do not. discourage someone. from using mobility or accessibility aids. The way they were intended. Ever. For any reason. That is what they are there for. Drunk or not, which I was not. But even if I was. People like me who have only started recently to experience mobility issues are in an especially vulnerable adjustment period, and the last thing we need is to think about our pride and how someone might make fun of us if we decide to use a railing the way it was intended. And not just a random someone at that. A person this winery employs. This was an incredibly unsafe, terrible experience that I never wish to relive, and I hope nobody else, abled or otherwise, encounters this. Skinner, this was completely unacceptable. No, I don't know her name, but she was incredibly rude, loud, and the least knowledgeable person I've ever encountered at a winery.

This place is the best kept secret in foothills wine. The experience only begins with their incredible wine. Cantiga's old world style is incomparable to modern wine-making. Every bottle is a feast for the senses, whether enjoyed alone or paired with good eats. Cantiga hosts are the perfect blend of friendliness, hospitality, and wine enthusiasm. One of the cutest tasting rooms in Fair Play. Lovely wines that you can't find just anywhere. I real enjoy their food pairings and willingness to teach the impact on food with good wines. It took longer than expected to get our flights, and then we were a bit disappointed that the sommelier didn't spend much time telling us about the wines. She brought them out and told us what each wine on the flight was, then left and we never saw her again. We've had several amazing tasting experiences in wine country where the sommelier tells you many more details about the wines including where on the property the grapes are grown, how it is made, and what different notes we will taste in each wine. It was a pretty basic explanation and we didn't feel that it was very personable despite it being a slow weekday. We ordered two tastings but all the wines were brought out in small carafes, we couldn't tell if each one held enough wine for one of us or both of our tastings combined. This wasn't ever explained either, so we assumed it was for both of us to share. We still enjoyed having our wines on this beautiful property, and we were able to have our baby with us which was nice. We weren't very impressed with the wines themselves and did not have any favorites that we needed to purchase bottles of. It is $10 for a glass or a tasting which was quite the deal. The prices and atmosphere were great, but the wine and overall experience was average.

Hiring the former Sous Chef from Taste restaurant to create food offerings/pairings and provide a small bite sample with wine tasting. 3. Display unique and unusual art in and around the property. (They have seven full size panels from the Berlin Wall adjacent to the tasting room.) 4. Staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. 5. The wine pricing is reasonable when compared to the quality. 6. Both the food and wine are excellent. That said, I think the one possible stumbling point could be their attempt to blend in their east coast sister wines and styles with this region. It might be an interesting idea, but I am uncertain people locally will appreciate or understand the effort. The Amador wine region is not Napa Valley, and I don't think it possesses the international appeal, notoriety or demographics that will support the concept of bi-coastal wines.
