I have been coming to this shop for years! This place has an enormous amount of beads in every color and size. They have the leaves and the flowers and geometric shaped beads. They have the new shaped beads that they are using in projects that I see on Etsy and Pinterest. I have taken pictures in and they have figured out which beads I need to copy the project. Both of the gals there have been very helpful when it comes to how to bead something I've never done before. I just beaded a cabochon, and with their help learned how to scallop the edge on top of the cabochon. I have found them both fun to talk to. The prices are great!! I feel very grateful to have a shop like this still in town. When I was in yesterday, there was a jewelry designer, who sells her beautiful wares on Etsy, in buying beads and chatting it up. I've come here to shop a few times over the past several years and I like it. They offer a large selection of beads and their prices, in general, seem a bit less overall when compared to the Bead Monkey. And while the Bead Monkey's environment feels all "shiny & new", Stormcloud Trading feels kind of dusty and worn - but in a good way. I would gladly give this place more stars if it weren't for the mean old hag that has no patience and tolerance for customers. The first time I went there she made me feel like I was going to be sent to the corner and have a dunce hat placed on my head. I get that they have a unique business model and that it works. Due to the lack of bead shops in the Twin Cities and the big box stores carrying just the basics, I'm sure many artists return not because they are gluttons for punishment, but they too need to make a living. The other woman (not the white haired villain) is extremely sweet and will find what what you need every time. If I were her, I would tell her Co-owner to stay to the stocking of things and leave the customer service to her. She lost about a hundred extra bucks in sales off me more than once because she was too crabby to simply get off meno-pause for a few minutes. read more

None of us had any experience, none of us knew what we were doing, and none of us had a clue how to go about making things. Well, we were bitten by the jewelry-making bug and we've been back multiple times. We've always been treated respectfully and have always had our questions answered. These people are NOT amateurs. The materials they sell are the highest quality and they have an absolutely unparalleled selection of beads. This is not the place you bring your kid looking for kindergarten craft materials- there are other craft stores for that. I went in on a Saturday just before closing, needing needle and thread to sew my own beads onto fabric. The woman there gave me a short tutorial, including specifics about these particular beads on that particular fabric. She gave me tips and sent me off with a hand stitching diagram, ended up being really helpful. A lot of attention for the measly amount of money I spent! read more

They had rearranged the store so it was in a different location. She insisted that I must have bought the beads elsewhere. When I found the beads finally, she made a rude comment that I was asking for the wrong thing and I just didn't know better. I come here all the time because I love that they have a lot of unique and beautiful jewelry at fairly reasonable prices. Their rings are literally the only reason I keep coming back. Why only two stars for a product I love? Their customer service is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the owner/manager (woman with long white hair) is probably the most atrocious person I have ever encountered in customer service. She is incredibly rude and always apt at making one feel like an idiot. She is angry, surly, and condescending (even to her other co-workers) to the point where it is uncomfortable. As somebody who has worked an ample amount in customer service, I have no idea why this woman is being allowed behind counters. So, the bottom line is come for the jewelry, but do not expect a nice or friendly staff. read more

I have come here on a bunch of occasions, say maybe 10 - 15 times in the last couple of years. First let me say, I am NOT a beader, so if you are a hardcore beader, you might want to take my review with a grain of salt. I find their prices REALLY high. Yes, they have some unique beads and I have looked at all of their beads many times in passing. Like one of the previous reviewers said, they have a lot of seed beads. If you want stone beads, crystal beads, antiquities beads, and more unique trade beads ect...they mainly sell those by the strand(which who wants a whole strand??), plus the strands are way expensive and they don't even have a very good selection of hard to find unusual organic beads. I have seen WAY better selection and uniqueness from that fancy bead store at the Mall of America and have bought very unusual beads from them on many occasions. Yes, they are pricey there too, but you can get some really great unusual stuff there. Most of their leather, which is in bigger peices, is WAY to expensive. They DO have small scraps of leather and scraps of fur from scavenger animals, but that is few and far between and the quality level is not that high. The scraps of leather and beading or leather working tools are really the only reason why I come here. I can't get the tools right away anywhere else. If i buy off the internet, I have to wait. My final, and BIGGEST issue with this place is the staff. Maybe everyone else has found them friendly, but they have NEVER been overly friendly with me. They are very condescending, patronizing, and generally look and treat my like I am some dummy cheap skate who doesn't know what they want and isn't willing to pay their high prices. They always talk down to me and when I start talking about a potential project and supplies I will need, it's like their mentally rolling their eyes at me and my ideas, all the while talking to me with a smile pasted on their faces. I have sworn several times now that I will NEVER come back here because they aren't friendly and they don't really have anything I need that bad. I think I am finally done with this place. I don't plan on stepping foot in here again, even for the few things I do need. I'll just order them over the internet. Sorry, I wouldn't recommend anyone here. read more

Recently my art projects have been involving jewelry making. I combine beads with polymer clay for necklaces and earrings. I've been checking out this store. On a given day there appear to be two workers. There's the gray long haired lady who's been mentioned before. At first I was intimidated because she does come off quiet and reserved. If you're kind of shy or unsure what you want, she might appear cold. But I found as I frequent the store, she is friendly and helpful. She seems to be the type of introverted person who rather just keep quiet and wait to know someone before warming up. I also found it useful to describe the type of project I am trying to do so she can help. Overall this is a neat store. There are a number of beads. It would be nice if there were more variety, but then again I see a number of beads there I don't see other places. You won't find Miracle Beads or some of the flashy bead types you see at Michael's but you'll find a number of frosted, faceted, and dual colored Czech beads. There are strung seed beads and E beads. Various shapes, sizes and color. They also time to time have clearance items on their desk to take a look. Price wise is okay. Comparable to other bead places. May or may not have all of what you need for a project, but can be a useful source for some projects. Parking: In rear of store. Bike parking: Coffee Shop next door has a bike rack. Bus 67, A Line and 84 drop off near the store. read more

Apparently they do not do returns on silver findings, because they reprice EVERYTHING on a daily basis that is made of silver. I found it pretty bad that they would not make a return the day after a purchase and used this as an excuse. As far as I am concerned any company that does not have a return policy posted anywhere in there store and does not make 100% of returns is SHADDY. read more

I'm giving Stormcloud a higher rating than I would have previously. The woman with the long hair has been condescending, rude, and snippy to me since I started going there many years ago. I had a friend who was very knowledgeable about Native pottery that is for sale there as well, and she was so rude to him, acting like he didn't know anything, that she lost a sale that day, and he would have been a regular customer. Their stock variety has gotten better and better over the years. I live very close, so if I need something I've run out of I know I can find it there. The other salesperson is so sweet, and a joy to talk to. I was even found out the days the long haired lady was off and made sure to go when she wasn't there. Any other bead artist I would talk with about the best suppliers, and inevitably we ended up dissing her so bad! But lately, she has been acting more mellow; it's been a complete 360 and I couldn't believe it! I had just taken to ignoring her behavior. She's very knowledgeable about the beads, and you just can't beat the number of colors and sizes that are in that store. I even heard her helping some women who were obviously new to beading, and was so nice to them! I've been telling all the beaders that she's much better now! read more

I don't know who the staff is helpful to as Shaleen M has stated but it hasn't been my experience the half dozen times I have been there. I have gone there only because they carry the beads and leather I have wanted to make my moccasins, but I will never go there again. I am new to moccasin making so I have questions that I know they could answer. Every time I have asking them a question they have been rude, condescending and made me feel very stupid. Last time I was there the sales girl tried to explain something to me that I was having a hard time understanding. ( Maybe it was because I am recovering from a stroke and have a hard time grasping things) None the less, I asked her to explain that to my husband and the look on her face was total disgust. That wasn't rude enough, when she walked past her boss, she whispered something in her ear (at which she agreed) that hurt me to the core. I know I don't understand things like I used to but I'm also not stupid and yet that employee and her boss had a way of rudeness I have never experienced anyplace else. I would advise anyone that is not an experienced in the leather crafts or beader to avoid this store. read more
