While the venue appears a bit older, if does seem to be well maintained overall. They also have a good size weights/fitness area, something I haven't seen, or better, than in the few other Chula Vista rec centers I've been to.

I think at the time, 2003 or so, I was a sophomore and I was catching up on those community service hours (on top of it, I know). I remember I had to do a lot of trash pick up and cleaning up graffiti. Aside from that, in these last couple of years, I frequent the recreation center to play basketball (indoor). Their basket ball gym is so cool! First of all, its air conditioned. Second, they always music playing. And, finally, they have a total of 6 hoops. Two main ones and two on each side. However, sometimes they might have only a few down. It just depends. There's definitely regulars here who come in the afternoon to play five on five. Te best times to come are usually the first three hours after its opened. Its dead during the first couple of hours. Honestly, I love this place to shoot around, practice, relax and get away for a bit from everything. The following information below derives entirely and directly from the Chula Vista web site under recreation services. Built in 2000, the Otay Recreation Center includes a gymnasium, game room, patio, and a fitness center. The programs offered at the Otay Recreation Center accommodates a wide array of participants, ranging from toddlers to youth to senior citizens. The center contains a wide-spectrum of activities as well. The fitness center, which requires a membership, contains a variety of state-of-the-art equipment, including cardio machines, free weights, and weight lifting machines. The game room is open during our normal hours of operation for drop in play and consists of pool tables, foosball tables, a ping-pong table, and more. The gymnasium is available for open recreational play each night, for more information on the schedule, please calls the center or click on the link above. The Otay Recreation Center also offers a wide variety of recreational classes. These classes consist of many preschool classes, Ready, Set, Learn, Bumble Bee Sports, Apples to Zebras, Ballet, and more. Other classes offered at the center include, ballet, zumba and belly dancing. The gymnasium, game room, classroom, and patio are available for rentals. For more information, please call the center or click on the link above.

Yet, I spend 15 hours in Chula Vista, 5 days a week and both facilities are convenient. The way this one is declining I have to add is this one about to be closed? *Q: Why am I concerned about this gym?* A: Machines are consistently out of order, and when they are "fixed," the repairs often look like makeshift patches. For a national chain charging higher membership fees, this is unacceptable. *Q: What about cleanliness?* A: At 5:45 AM, the bathrooms are disgusting. Chunks of hair on the floor. Trash completely filled. Toilets with bio-stains, I could go on. I've seen the cleaning staff present, yet there is no sanitation or disinfectant in the bathrooms. She's disgusted and does minimum. How does this meet even the most basic hygiene standards? *Q: How does this affect members?* A: Members are paying for a facility that should already be fully equipped and maintained. Members rely on safe, functional equipment. Instead, the gym looks like a salvage yard of broken machines. *Q: How do I manage?* A: I stick to barbell training, so I don't rely much on machines, but that doesn't excuse the neglect. Many members do rely on those machines, and they deserve better. Today. We are done with the "out-of-order machines." *Q: What message does this send?* A: That local 24 hour management and corporate are fiscal predators and give us less than minimum service. Technically once you have the machines the easy part is keeping them up it's not like they have to constantly buy equipment and materials to maintain a safe gym. There's so many people who want work and they will come in and keep it clean, everywhere. Covid standard guidelines for gyms, should remain. Raising rates while ignoring basic maintenance and sanitation is an insult to members. *Q: What do I want answered?* A: Why is corporate charging more while providing less? Why is sanitation ignored? And what accountability will be put in place so this gym doesn't continue to decline? "Health is wealth."

Community Parks create memories for birthdays, holding hands, kickball, learning to ride the bike and sometimes relaxing under the sun. By the way this is a good park to learn to roller skate. Montgomery Waller is surrounded by homes, near schools, the community library, senior housing and actual vibrant neighborhoods. It is quite a beautiful layout of this park. From a couple of baseball fields, full on outdoor basketball courts, paved walkways and walking trails, and play areas. It's a lot of land. If you can't social distance here, then there's a problema. As you walk the unmarked course around the park you may see cheerleaders practicing, litte league baseball, Pop Warner football, AYSO soccer, father's pushing baby carriages, celebration of birthdays and dog walkers. I really enjoy how this park is elderly friendly and safe. The paved walkways is very clean and flat and no cracks, crevices or unleveled ground. There are several manageable inclines and declines. If I was too start a walking or running club I would train at this park. In fact, I see groups doing yoga, tai-chi and cartwheels. It's biiiig. There are two areas of play structures that will likely become boring after a couple of times because expansion needs to happen. The rec center where classes are offered is atop the hill and classes are usually free. I saw Zumba having a blast. Also, there are dog poop bag boxes which offer free bags. Don't let your dog poop on the paved clean walkway. The cons to this park are a few: Limited toilets. I saw one outhouse, and two single toilets in this big park. I guess because this neighborhood is 90% diverse, perhaps they don't use toilets. I guess. Cause this is ignorant for this space to not have real toilets around the entire Park area. The other con, is the walkway should be marked with mileage markers. Parking is available in the lots or around the park. I come here once a week and enjoy it a lot. It is mostly an unshaded park from morning to evening. It's not impossible to find shade but it is a task. Bring your umbrella and/or canopy. You will thank me later. Absolutely, I would recommend this park if you are near the area. Would I make a special trip? Ummm, probably because it is a best kept secret; many people don't know it exists. If you're a trainer or have an exercise class or meet up outdoor meditation, this is a perfect place to do it.
