The menu items were inexpensive which my party were happy about, but when we made our selections it took so long for the food to come. I ordered a chicken meal with rice, and the chicken had bones in it that I almost choked on- it didn't say it ok the menu-guess I wasn't expecting it. The rice tasted okay but I was turned off from eating once my sister found a long black hair in her food. Once there's hair in food my stomach turns and I don't eat anymore. When my sister complained about the hair- the staff were staring at her like they didn't understand why she was upset- and were making it seem like she threw the hair in there. We also ordered some bread with our meal which never came and had to be sure it was taken off our check. Overall this experience was terrible and I wished we had gone to the steakhouse around the corner that I wanted to go to- but the people I was with wanted this place.

My body was craving something with actual nutritional value, and the Asian food scene was so strong here that we thought finding a sushi place seemed like a good idea. Indeed it was. Geisha is a really nice restaurant - dark and swanky, it was definitely a great place to have a meal. I also really dug the bar, which was super swanky and glass. This restaurant has a fairly limited sushi menu, but what we had was very good and fresh. But the dim sum menu was really the star of the show. We got iberico pork suimai which was REALLY good. And then the shrimp dumplings were also really delicious. The beef dumplings were also good but were pretty greasy and our least favorite. In addition I ordered the miso soup, which was possibly the best miso I have ever had. It was clearly made to order and came with a pool of lovely mushrooms - two kinds. It was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, who was the manager or owner was OK. She didn't write anything down and then had to come back to our table to verify our order. I also was somewhat disappointed that they charge you for tap water here (we were charged per little bottle they brought to the table). But other than that, it was truly a very nice meal.

My friend and I decided to go to El Rancho. It had a carnivores dream menu and we found some reasonably priced steak. For around 20 euros, we got rump steak, baked potato and salad. The steak itself was pretty damn good, really tender and cooked perfectly, whilst a huge baked potato and sour cream was brought as a side with salad. Totally stuffed, there was no room for dessert. There are offers of 3 courses but to be honest, a main was more than enough for us. Well worth checking out if you fancy a great steak and service is efficient and friendly.

My girl said it tasted more like goat or deer than veal (could have been free roaming grass fed). But she did enjoy it. "It's very very good. Maybe the item title is translated wrong". My Sole was cooked pretty good. A little mushy and I picked up quite a few bones in the first few bites. I did however enjoy it. The veggies were a dry and overlook. No ifs ands or buts about that. The roasted potatoes were also a little over cooked and mushy. I would come again to try other menu items. I do have concerns about the drinks policy. Now of course I am as they say a simple stupid American, but when asking for water with ice, one would expect more than 1 cube per glass. So as far as the drinks, this place gets a flat 1 star. The food gets 3.5 Stars.

Visited this place for dinner one night while staying at a hotel a couple blocks away. I wasn't…read moresuper convinced about the visit, because barbecue chicken and the typical sides seems so... un-Amsterdam and uninspired in terms of foodie options. My mind was changed over the course of the meal though, as everything my colleague and I had for dinner was wonderfully made and delicious. The menu is pretty classic for a chicken barbecue-type restaurant, You choose between a half and a full chicken and then a variety of sides. The coleslaw, in my opinion, is the real winner when it comes to the sides. The french fries (chips) and applesauce were also pretty delicious. Oh! The cheesecake with the passion fruit gel-like topping is fabulous. I'm not usually a fan of desserts, but that one was delish. The service in the crowded (it's a smaller place) restaurant is very good as well. Our server/waitress was very sweet, helping us with a couple basic questions about the menu. This *was* one of the few restaurants we visited that didn't seem to have a menu also available in English, but it was very simple to figure everything out and/or ask any questions about what was available. I do wish there was a bit more space between tables and whatnot. With my back to the restaurant aisle, I was afraid of backing up at the wrong moment. If the weather had been warmer, I probably would have preferred to eat outside and enjoy more table space. During our time there, a bunch of folks coming to eat would shift tables around for even a tiny bit more space from other diners. TL;DR Super yummy chicken and sides. A bit compact, seating wise, but otherwise fairly inviting. Great service. Would recommend if you're craving barbecue or rotisserie chicken.

We had a child with us, so they put us upstairs near the children's play area which was nice. However, it was very dark up there and, even with the lights turned on and bright windows, it felt dim. Because we were seated upstairs, service was pretty lacking and we felt forgotten. The food itself was ok. The seafood platter was very appetizing and had a nice variety of options. However, our clam pasta was so lukewarm, bland, and watery, it felt like an insult to the clams and Italian food in general. The bread was also cold, but the butter was nice. Overall, we had a nice time because we were with good company, but IJ Kantine didn't impress.

I originally thought it was the German Burgermeister chain which we really liked in Lucerne. We were even more curious when finding out that it's a local burger spot with only 3 locations in Amsterdam. This one is located on Utrechtsestraat in the city center near Rembrandt Square. It appears to be a small space when you first enter. There's a downstairs kitchen with bar seating as well as a booth at the window. Their actual dining area is upstairs. We were greeted immediately and asked to sit anywhere. Our order was taken at the table. It was great service from the get-go! I think our biggest first impression was the cleanliness of the restaurant and bathrooms. You just don't see that level of clean just anywhere. The burgers here are exceptional. They are gourmet-type burgers that are cooked to order. We thought about getting fries with it, but decided not to after seeing the size of these burgers. I could barely eat it all. Our Mokum Cheese Burger was absolutely delicious and very juicy. I loved every topping. I can't name it all, but I know it had some type of aged cheese with a hint of horseradish in the sauce. The pickles were tasty. I wish I could give you every ingredient. All I know for sure is that it's made with Blonde d'Aquitaine beef. They have a cookbook for sale if you're interested. The drinks are varied from gin & tonic to beer, wine, and lemonade. I enjoyed their loose-leaf jasmine mandarin tea served hot. There's a little room upstairs for creative people who like to sketch. I saw some of them decorating the walls. Having a burger in different countries may seem uninspiring for some people. I've found it to be very telling of the local culture and flavor. Especially in restaurants that have a standard of high quality ingredients. This is one that I'd go back to when visiting Amsterdam. The service made it even better.
