Over the past year, I have made it my personal achievement to become proficient in making tamales. Over the last eight months I have learned to perfect multiple different tamales, but I cannot call myself a master, as I have not put in the time of a true master. This is what led me to La Mexicana. A search for proper ingredients beyond just the simple masa and lard. I am always looking for fresh peppers when it's out of season that I cannot grow and dry myself. I am happy to say LA Mexicana has everything one needs and more to make any Latin meal and also has incredible people working there. The shop looks small from the outside but runs deep with a wonderful vibe and classic decoration and bright color. Though there were huge crowds here I was not surprised because Walmart is a very popular store chain. I got shoes and dress pants. The shoe section was really spacey but the kind I got there were at least three sizes which was great compared to times at the now defunct Payless and the even less prepared K-mart. That and the pants were plentiful which was overall like a breath of fresh air! Though these are trying times if you need to, go here even if it ends up a last resort. The customers are in large numbers so if that bothers you you may have to find a smaller business to support instead. Otherwise Walmart is definitely a place to go!

For instance, one day in the beginning months of her pregnancy, she was craving jal jeera masala. Apparently she used to drink it as a kid, and it helped settle her stomach. After a description of what to look for, she sent me here to see if they had it. Yep... They had it. Rangoli is the closest Indian store to where we live, so we are semi regulars. I've personally been to Indian stores with far greater selection. This store will never be able to compare with places in Edison, NJ for instance. But they do very well for a store of their size. Plus, they're my hook up for when I need Parle G biscuits. When I visited India in 08, we drove past the Parle G factory in Mumbai as it is located close to where my wife grew up. Now, Mumbai tends to be polluted and smells like it. But at that moment when we drove past, Mumbai smelled like cookies and it was glorious. So when I want to relive that moment, it's nice that I only have to go to Clifton Heights instead of buying a $1500 round trip plane ticket.
