On days I don't bring lunch to work, I get an eggplant sandwich with lettuce/tomatoes or go for the eggplant on mixed greens with other veggies- that are both winners for me. And the lower price range can only be found on the occasional sale day. Whereas, Viva's prices are on regular rotation ranging from .79c/lb -$1.99/lb. How are they able to maintain these lower prices? Supply and demand? Better wholesale distributor? Location? They're located in Westchester and less than half a mile or so from Shop Rite and Stop Shop, and the quality to me seems on par with the larger chains. Hey, but what do I know? One thing I do know, these affordable prices are being trickled down to the consumer for a change and that's more than appreciated. Viva Ranch carries all your favorite veggies and fruits, even stuff you didn't even think you needed. Plus, there's also a friendly butchers corner towards the back of the store. Showing my patronage whenever I can helps Viva turn their products over and on the other hand saves me a few dollars. And who doesn't value saving a few $'s? The quality of their products are amazing too and the staff is super friendly. The store itself can get a bit crowded & parking is not the best but I don't mind since the prices are so great. You can say the fruit and vegetables (what they have) look okay or fresh enough...but unfortunately when you get home and are ready to eat and prepare the produce, it's on the old side and not fresh at all. I've had to throw away certain produce because they weren't in good shape. The apples seem to look okay...but when ya get home and you bite into them, they're brown and mushy. Just a waste of money. I/We have purchased dairy products in the past such as eggs, milk and yogurt and have had to return the items because they were either old and/or spoiled. Perhaps they have a refrigeration problem or the thermostat is kept way too low?? Just no good. We've noticed that many items on the shelves are on the older side and are outdated. Ketchup, mustard, honey and cookies to name a few. The store did not seem to be very clean the last time I stopped in. The floors were sticky and the merchandise on the shelves were very dusty. I came in to return a gallon of milk which was spoiled and the cashier was very nasty and rude to me because I did not have a receipt...meanwhile she was the one who rang me up the day before. She gave me my money back...but gave me a very hard time for no reason. This is no way to treat customers and to run a business. No way!! Normally a person could just let this go...but this is not the first time. It's happened several times. The little one (cashier) in particular has a rotten attitude. I/We won't be going back to this store anymore. There are better markets and stores one can go to without these types of problems. Not worth it. Sorry......

They have a coffee station and a deli counter with cold cuts or where you can grab breakfast or a sandwich to go. In short, all of your standards and more, with a slight emphasis on Eastern Europe/Mediterranean fare--different for this neighborhood that tends to skew Irish, but not unwelcome. More than just a supplemental place to pick up a few things, you could almost use this as a primary supermarket. What a welcome addition to this neighborhood.

Great store with a lot of international products!…read more However, I've noticed a change lately in the cheese department. The store seems to be focusing more on expensive organic products, but unfortunately the quality control on some of the cheeses has gone down. I've purchased several cheeses here recently that tasted over-aged and strongly ammoniated. Properly aged European cheeses should have complex, nutty, earthy flavors -- not a harsh ammonia taste or smell. This has happened multiple times now. One of the biggest issues is that everything is prepackaged in plastic, so you cannot properly smell or assess the cheese before buying it. You only discover the problem once you get home and open the package. A good cheese counter should allow customers to smell or sample cheeses, especially imported and aged varieties.

Since I was meeting my sisters for a lite bite afterwards, I didn't want to purchase anything that would spoil so just got blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries that I knew would keep in my car for a couple of hours.
