When here, come to pick up specific items either for upcoming holidays - e.g. cabbage sale .29/lb with coupon for St. Paddy's Day. Check out options - self-check out or the register. Since I only had a few items, go on self-check out items. If any issues, the staff is there to help. Easy peasy, 1-2-3, pay and on the way. We have been forced to shop here since it is the only game in town due to the closure of the King Kullen a few years ago. Since going here, there is a particular employee who I've had run-ins/confrontations with. Once he told me the restroom was out of order when it was not. When I asked another employee and got the opposite answer, I asked him why he told me it was out of order. He laughed and walked away. While stocking shelves, he leaves his cart or u-frame in the middle of the aisle. When you ask him to move it, he ignores the request. When you move it yourself or try to move around it, he complains and says if you knock anything over, you will pay for it. The same situation happened to me today and it must be the 5th or 6th time it has happened. When walking out today, I looked to my left and saw his photo on the wall as the grocery manager? Seriously? Barry Edwards is his name. His customer service is horrible and I cannot comprehend how he is employed, let alone manages that place. If you're going to force most of the town to shop at only 1 grocery store, at least make it a decent experience. Every time I go in there, I wonder what this wild card will do to me or my wife. read more

So I'm in line checking out and after I've paid I asked for a bag to put the groceries in. No bags. If you want some you can buy these for $1. Oh, thanks, but no thanks. I put my 30 items in my basket and found a employee sitting on a counter. You have any bags? No, outta bags, maybe tomorrow. No help with groceries? No. Maybe a sign saying "no bags" ? The store is always very clean and has everything you may need. There are 3 can/bottle return machines and they all work well. The man running the machines is super helpful in getting all the bottles returned and making sure the machines are empty. I usually self-checkout when I go and the staff is efficient and patient when I encounter a problem. Overall, a very nice grocery store. read more

I've always loved the notion of using the price guns to scan items for ease at check out. Yes, there is a formula for when and who to audit, but.... if you're honest, nothing to worry about right? Always clean, well stocked and organized. Friendly helpful staff who are always quick to assist. Great selection and competitive pricing. What's not to love about Stop n shop? This store is not what it used to be!!!!! Things we used to be able to get are no longer available. Worst of all, the long term staff that I've seen here for 30 years are unfriendly, don't help and just have a nasty energy towards the customers. 2 employees in particular!!! I honestly ask myself, why the F'ck did I come here again every time I come to this store. I need to check out that new grocery company here on LI!!!! Supermarket. Generally, I am not a fan of Stop & Shop, but this particular location is better than the one in Oyster Bay. Huge store with a great selection of stuff - and as long as you stick to the sale items, no one gets hurt. A zillion cashiers make getting out of there quick and easy. This supermarket is utterly filthy. I rarely go here anymore despite living very close by. Today I went for a quick item and when I went to check out the conveyor belt was covered in wet slime. I could not find a place to put my groceries that was not covered in filth. The metal scanning plate in front of the cashier was even worse. It had a hick layer of scum over the entire metal and glass scanner. I told the cashier that I would not unload my groceries on such a filthy surface because it is a health hazard to both me and to him. He looked all over the store and could not find anything to clean it with. This tells me that they are NEVER cleaned. I won't be returning to this store and I suggest that no one patronize such an unsanitary store. There are plenty of stores nearby who care about the health of their clientele. read more

I was really surprised by the lack of quality this S&S presented. Wilted veggies, bruised fruits and zero kale. Also, the beauty department was very small and every singe aisle was a mess with boxes, carts and general disarray. I get that S&S isn't exactly a luxury market, but still -- I happen to go to my local branch regularly and the management in RI clearly adheres to much higher standards. I can understand produce wilting after a day, I can even sympathize with a mid-afternoon re-stock, but I cannot understand letting food store get to the point and remain filthy. That's just gross. I have attempted to visit this location on three separate occasions at around 10:50pm to 11:05pm ranges in time. It is extremely annoying that an establishment advertises its open until midnight and have the doors closed by 11:05pm. If you're going to close at a certain time, advertise your hours as such. read more

Obviously they are hiring idiots to work behind the seafood dept. Extremely frustrated after tonight's ordeal. Purchased some whole fish and asked were they cleaned to which the older woman behind the counter replied yes. Apparently she just didn't want to do her job because I arrived home to find the fish hadn't even been so much as de-scaled which I would now have to do. Anyone who's done that job knows how messy it can be. Thoroughly pissed at her laziness I called and spoke to Sean the manager who just made excuses for her saying she could've been confused at what "cleaning" them meant. I am so done with this store. Although some of the cashiers are very pleasant (especially Seth), they are so understaffed and it's become very frustrating to shop there. It's always dirty looking, and I find that when I buy whole milk there, it expires long before it's expiration date unless it's the organic milk I buy for my son. The deli is a disgrace. I've found plastic in the chicken parmesan that they sell in the deli. Oh and if you buy their pre-made Mediterranean salad with chicken, don't expect to find any chicken in it. We called the customer service number that was on the container of the salad to ask them why there wasn't any chicken and the representative told us stop n shop must be repackaging those containers and selling them. When we asked stop n shop about it, they said it must've been mislabeled. However, they are still selling that salad labeled that it contains chicken but it does not. Also spent $11 on prosciutto from the deli only to discover that it was disgusting when we tried eating. Now I go to oyster bay stop n shop and it's SO much better, so clean and rarely any lines. Will be shopping there from now on even though it's a much further trip. Can only hope the Glen Cove stop n shop improves! read more

I live in Glen Cove so this Stop n SHop is convenient. I gave the store 4 stars only because of 2 exceptional employees. First, Patricia at the customer service desk. She is always pleasant and just a delight. The other employee works at the self check out. I don't know his name but he is an older African-American man. He too is always pleasant and friendly. Unfortunately the lowest rating one can give is 1 Star...if I was able to, I'd rate this dump negative 10 Stars. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!! The meat is consistently putrid and spoiled and anything they cover over expired stickers. Even items like boxed cereal are sketchy...we pulled a box of cereal from the shelf and the bottom corner was chewed from a rodent. I wouldn't go back to this store again even for a box of garbage bags. Disgusting!! Almost as bad as King Kullen!!! Just bought a jar of herring in cream sauce, got home went to open it, it was spoiled, open and moldy. They wouldn't exchange it. I understand the issue with the virus going around but selling rotten food is just un exceptable. I would not recommend anyone shop at this stop and shop or any other one until this epidemic is over and they can restock with fresh unspoiled and unopened food but then again I'm not sure if that would even make a difference. read more

Edit: Last night I went to the new King Kullen a little ways down from Stop & Shop. It's new and clean. It was almost empty! No zoo-ey parking lot...in and out quickly. Great alternative! This is where I always go. I have found that the produce is hit or miss...sometimes they have items I'm looking for, sometimes they don't. And yes, the parking lot is a massacre. read more

The self check out registers were flaky, then they replaced them and they are not only worse, but they usually have 1 or 2 out of order. Please, do something about that! I called for an IHOP gift card to see if they have it before coming. They told me they had it. I got there I found it and bought it to the register. The cashier scanned it and nothing came up. She told me that they couldn't do anything. And then looked at me with a blank stare. So I asked for a manager. She came over and said we can't do anything about this so you can't buy this. Not even a sorry out of her. Like are u kidding me I came all the way here to find out that I can't buy I gift card because it doesn't scan. Like really. I ordered some deli meats at the little kiosk when you enter the store. It said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I took my time picking a few other items I needed and in about 20 mins it was announced over the speaker that my # was ready at the deli. I went to get it only to find about 10-15 customers waiting and only 2 people working behind the counter. Not only was my order not ready, but the one called before me hadn't been done. I don't blame the 2 people working behind the counter, they were doing the best they could do. I phoned the manager while I was waiting to tell him that they could use some help. He said thank you I'll take care of it. I waited there another 20 minutes for my order and no one showed up to help. read more

I'm being generous with two stars; one and a half would be most appropriate. Went to buy a couple of things today. Peppers were listed as priced 4 for $$$$. When I went to cash out, they were priced per lb. What's up with that? Worse though, was the frozen ice cream freezer. Everything was melted. I saw the manager who said, yes, the machine needed to be restarted this morning. (I read that to mean that it was out of service most, if not all of the night.). It will all be re-frozen by this afternoon and anyone buying the stuff might be in for a rude awakening. The ice cream and frozen yogurt may not be dangerous to eat, but they sure as hell will not taste good. But, that is par for the course for this Stop and Shop. read more

Moldy, wilted produce, sketchy meat, long lines, price-checking machines and self-checkout registers broken, Redbox machine broken, bottle and can return machines broken, dirty parking lot with garbage strewn about and often surly staff. The only reason I have continued going here is due the location being near to my home. I just left and witnesses one of the male employees cursed and grumble under his breathe when he was inconvenienced by an elderly woman being in his way. I commented to him that it wasn't nice and he walked away groaning under his breathe where he walked past another employee using fowl language and heading off to his break it appeared. I understand as a restaurant manager that the public is difficult but geez.... This is not the first bad time at this location, always out of bags on the self checkout, employees staring at their phones when the could help bag items for older people to perhaps speed up the process. The food is expired. Last week I ate pre cooked chicken that was over a month expired, and today I ate yogurt that was 3 weeks expired. I've been sick all morning. I know it's my responsibility to check the expiration date but shouldn't we have some trust in our community grocery store? Also, there is a cashier that out right says "I don't like you" to costumers he doesn't like, and a bag lady who constantly, intentionally, hits me with the packages really hard before placing them in the cart. She'll swing them in my direction before placing them in the cart. I've told her to stop before because one of the boxes scrapped my hand, but she did it again yesterday! I've shopped at a lot of S&S's, some even in the ghetto, but this one is by far the worse. Meat was molded, aisles messy, produce selection is embarrassing, illogical parking lot, never enough carts, and the customer service is absolutely horrible. i was in glenn cove and i decided to try stop n shop over the usual king kullen and it was just ok. the place first has an entrance and exit too far apart and its hot outside and i am lazy. the prices for produce, meats, fish, bread and dairy is about the same or a little more then my regular stop and shop in white plains plus this location is smaller , also the lighting is not that bright, it was kinda dim inside. the place was semi empty and i used the self service register that kept screwing up and a worker had to help me out. i picked up some fat free muffin that were on sale and a few other things.if you look around aisle to aisle you can find some useful stuff on sale. a decent selection of beverages and other snacks like chips, cookies, etc. the fruits and veggies are a little overpriced compared to other local supermarkets. this stop n shop needs a makeover and renovation. p.s. i gave an extra star cause on the way out i got some scratch off tickets from the lottery machine and won 80 bucks. read more
