Lidl strikes again. The discount mart has landed and put down roots in a high income area again. Here they are replacing our Best Market fresh produce mart who sold us out. No more regional management tuning in to what Syosset likes. No more fresh juice bar. I saw rows of cheap Gatorade dyed with bright blue, yellow and red. Lidl. Is it a a vast chain store or a philosophy? The philosophy being to bring vast quantities off food to vast numbers of people. Right here two years ago I stepped into this very location and had fresh juice made for me and my best friends. Today. New store and I see some containers of made from concentrate OJ and some not from concentrate the kind that comes from the large storage vats with added scent and flavor packets. This is North Shore Long Island. Quality is what we love. Saving printed paper or digits on a statement are not front and center. Lidl makes me rethink our world and the population explosion. I begin fearing a socialist takeover is coming. That there will be bread lines. That food will be in short supply. That money will be leaving the US and gourmet will become obsolete. That I will be sorry about this review and hope for a crumb of bread like that book I read in 2nd grade. It could happen, but I think I would be sorrier that it wasn't a crust of bread from Brooklyn. I think the idea of bringing wholesale food to the masses is great. But when they replace a fresh produce store that once had a juice bar, a sushi station and some bread in from Brooklyn I suppose it just makes me worry. Maybe Germany knows something about our future that we don't. As a card carrying American from Long Island NY I have been raised on the comforts of places that make us feel special. Trader Joe's manages it with their gourmet dark chocolate cake, their healthy trail mixes, their Brie en croute to heat and serve. Their just in from California look for the team. Best market managed it to perfection with their juice bar and other awesome healthy options. Lidl is huge. Can do anything. But knows volume and savings above all. And nothing is more dehumanizing than feeling like one of 7 billion people that should just be glad to eat food. When I read their grapes label a few years back in Moriches had the extender Sulphur dioxide on them, I knew we needed to read with care. Plainview once offered some nice coffee beans from South America. Now that.. I could get behind. Food is life. It's substance But ideally it's community grown and It's made with care and it's Social. Bulk quantities of generic food are here. Maybe they know something about our demographic that I don't. Gatorade guzzling, 89 cent a pound chicken grilling coming soon? When Fairway left we were all paying $17 for Murrays antibiotic free. We see your chicken and think where is that made and what's in it. Tell us what, where and how.. not just how much. Where would Lidl be best? Where they have never had a supermarket... where big and savings are amazing. Here we have Whole foods to the west of us, Shoprite and Trader Joes to the south, and Stop N Shop to the east, Wild by Nature north east. Even further south I could go into Stew Leonard's with its piles of preservative filled bake goods but at the same time find some just squeezed juice in an aisle that I head straight for... so they redeem. Lidl, this is Long Island.... Moriches.. yeah.. Syosset, Westhampton? Your advisors need to bring in Long Island style product... its supposed to be special here.... we live on an island.. we swim at the ocean, boat in the bay, work in the city, or local, and we love NYC, and LI style bagels, pizza, fresh caught fish, and antibiotic, preservative free mixed in with the standard stuff. We like our bread from Brooklyn or just baked. We love heirloom tomatoes. We like organic blueberries. I see the organic signs so I'll come back and check the produce out. We like attractive coastal or country market vibes. Stark floors & lighting with Red Blue and Yellow signage are tough on the eye. If you want to be on the North Shore and in Westhampton, Please make a North Shore / Hamptons version of Lidl. It won't be cheap, but we are cuisine / food educated. Bring us the best of European goods. Get the juice bar going... bring in the sushi man as we wait... Show us what you got baby.. read more

Good local supermarket in Syosset with some discounted groceries that one would find elsewhere. They have freshly made bread and cookies. Of course, not a full supermarket, but good to get some groceries where you may get a sightly better deal - fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, etc. Bought mushrooms and blueberries at a great price here. Also Homestyle frozen meatballs when I can't find them at the other stores. Doesn't hurt to shop around. Ample parking in the shopping area shared with other stores. read more

I stopped in for the first time today and to be honest, I really wasn't sure what to expect. Since the other local supermarket was out of something I needed, I decided to give it a try since I remember the previous store at this location had really good meats. Store was clean and the space was well lit. Layout at first was confusing but in a moment I got my bearings and began to shop for the items I needed. There are very few options in the items they carry- usually a store brand and one national brand. The added plus is that I was able to buy every single item on my list. On the weirder side or the unusual side- I was not ready to experience the hardware side of the store at all. Let's see ... I need a chain saw and some evaporated milk....hmm "I know! I'll go to Lidl". Something here just doesn't fit. The super bonus was the helpful associates I encountered. Very helpful gentleman pointing me and bringing me to exactly what I was looking for. And the fastest checkout line I have experienced in years. Prices were shockingly low and my entire basket was beyond dirt cheap. Maybe I'll get used to it here, but in the meanwhile, I'll say I had a pleasant experience. read more

I don't understand why all the negative reviews! Lidl is great! Just because we live in more expensive neighborhoods doesn't mean that we can't appreciate a good deal. They don't have the widest selection, but whatever they have is priced very right. Where else can you find cream cheese for less than a dollar and canned goods for about 50 cents? Apparently, I am not speaking for everybody when I say this, but I sure like some extra cash in my wallet. read more

I can spend half a day in this supermarket. Everything is so fresh and cheap. I almost bought a bag of meters lemon for $2.99, and I didn't even know what to do with them. They make their own egg tarts here but to be honest they're not as great as the ones you find in Asian bakeries. Looks like they cut out frozen phyllo dough and poured egg mixture into the cup. Their chocolate is pretty good too. Think this place will give TJs a run for their money. read more

It is now almost September and Lidl has jacked up their prices to Stop & Shop levels. Nice try Lidl.

They do not provide paper bags. They offer a plastic bag at 13 cents/bag. Under NYS law, that is their option. However, they do not let the customer know this policy until the customer pays for the items at the register when you ask for a bag. There are no signs informing the customer of their store policy. I suggested to them that better customer service could be to post a sign about their policy conspicuously at the store entrance so the customer can decide whether to patronize the store under their policy. Normally I go to Stop & Shop as my primary source for grocery shopping...this LIDL location is a close second. Been going here since they first opened this past Spring, and first visit was somewhat overwhelming. Took some time to be able to navigate their set-up, but after several visits I am now a pro! At first I was extremely suspicious of many of their low prices...initial thought was probably quality is not as good. Certainly not the case! I now exclusively buy all of my dairy items (milk, cheese, yogurt, sour cream, etc) here at drastically reduced prices. One con about checking out - no express line and no self checkout (always appreciate this convenience when running into a supermarket just to grab 1 or 2 items). Yes, the lines to checkout can look intimidating at times, but they are super lightning fast at ringing you up. It's to the point where I feel a bit of pressure for my bagging skills to keep up with them! Always terrific deals here and lots of good finds! read more

They use the US mail to send you circulars that advertise items that they never have in stock- i went on Sunday and they were out of advertised steak, returned Monday and Tuesday- still out. They said that their sale starts on Wednesday and sells out fast so that i should come on Wednesday's. So i went on Wednesday for brand new advertisement for salmon. Out of stock. I went back Wednesday night- out if stock. I went back in Thursday for salmon - still of stock. Company is a fraud- I asked mailman not to Leave me Lidl circulars anymore- but he says he has to deliver mail. Now I am stuck getting lidl junk mail along with those Pella window junk mail ads. read more

Lidl has been open in Syosset for 2 weeks. Already, items they have advertised are not in stock. They had ribeyes on sales for $5.99 a piece, maximum of 4. Went to the store on Monday, 4/19 and there were none in the store. Went again today at 8am, their opening time and once again the shelve was empty. They did have a sign this time though: Due to supplier issues, we do not have the item as advertised. Sounds like the old 'bait and switch' to get you into the store. Anyway, store will never make it in Syosset because there are no name brand items, only their store brand or other brands you've never heard of. read more

Absolutely horrible meat department. 5 times I bought rancid meat that was no where near the expiration date. When I returned my spareribs the last time the manager said he would not remove the remaining packages off the shelves. He also lied saying no one has returned meat there which is a lie because I did more than once. I really tried to support this company now I will go on every social media warning customers to stay away. They don't care about their customers just about their pockets. Who thought it was a good idea to bring this type of grocery store to Syosset? The whole out of a box style is messy and does not provide near enough options. Disappointing that this is what we get after losing Best Market which at least provided a wide range of options in a pleasant environment. I just don't get it. read more

Filthy store (floor, shelves). Expired food in every department. Moldy cheese. Hugh prices--yes. They are as expensive as Shoprite. To make matters worse, I had $79 worth of groceries (I calculated as I bought). Cashier rang up $113. I asked her to please check--she said "I scanned the prices, it's correct." Lidl doesn't always carry every item I want, but the store is clean, the prices are great and I've come to appreciate what they do carry. The European brands are fun to try. Fish, particularly salmon, is often on sale. I shop at several stores, including ShopRite and Trader Joe's. I avoid Whole Paycheck. I go to Lidl for the basics: Eggs, milk, cheeses and grass-fed beef, milk and cream. Also snacks, nuts and some frozen items. Not so much for vegetables. I also appreciate their seasonal bulbs, live plants and flowers. No, there's no customer service desk, but ask any associate. They're friendly and will always help you out. Try some of the European specialties. They're amazing. Don't go in expecting posh service at high prices. But look around and appreciate a different kind of shopping experience. read more

Went here last week. Worst supermarket ever, all the Lidl's suck. Avoid them. Manager was horrible didn't help at all, should be fired. Lines were so long and there was problems and manager wouldn't come to help. Some of the produce was expired, as the fruit seemed like they hadn't been replaced for a couple of days. Manager who runs the store needs to do some work soon because if he doesn't it will end up just like king kullen and best market. Don't waste your time and go to shoprite. They actually know how to run a supermarket unlike this dumb manager who doesn't know anything. He didn't help me at all. Get some new leadership lidl, your store depends on it. read more
