The store itself is ok. The delivery service is a nightmare. Only once did it actually come right. Twice it was left at my neighbor's house. Once it was left at a location I did not know. The one I had tonight was blind, couldn't find my driveway, even though I left specific directions, with a phone number to call if there was an issue. I had to call the driver. Complete disappointment. I miss peapod. With a bad back and hip, it's hard for me to walk the store without pain. Get it together S&S! read more

The area inside the entrance to the Lake Av Ext store that goes past the bottle return was littered with trash and the carpet next to the pharmacy was filthy today. The parking lots are totally neglected. The sidewalk that fronts Lake Avenue is overgrown with weeds. Noone was servingvon the fish counter yesterday. I ended up going behind the counter and tapping on the door to the prep area to ask for help. A man came put with trays of burger. He put them in the meat area then served me fish. I am uneasy about a fish counter being unsupervised. read more

We have shopped here a few times and I can always find what I need. Shelves are stocked, prices are reasonable and whenever I've needed help from staff, they've been available and helpful. The prepared foods I've had from there are pretty good too, not to mention the bakery items, which I need because they are so tasty I over-indulge (they have a chocolate cream pie which is pretty amazing). I've only used the self checkout, so I have to say the checkout is fast and friendly! I just wish people would return their carts to the store rather than leaving them all over the parking lot. Also, every time I've been there it's been busy but never super packed, which I like. This is a solid choice for groceries. read more

Note: Stop & Shop has decided to Permanently close their 72 Newtown Rd, Danbury Store location, what a bad decision! The Lake Avenue Ext location was a wonderful store, before the Stop & Shop Peapod online shopping came into existence. Now these employee shoppers take the merchandise off the shelves and leave little selection for in-store shoppers. The bottle return location is local and attracts many of Danbury's homeless population. So, Stop & Shop has given another grocery store chain the opportunity to move in and provide the community with a new shopping experience. The Lake Avenue Ext location will soon be closed as well, since most shoppers will migrate to a new grocery chain. I have been a loyal Stop & Shop customer for over 50 years, and saw both stores open, the Peapod service is the killer on the Lake Avenue Ext. location. Stop & Shop should use the Newtown Road store location strictly as their Peapod Warehouse and distribution location. Good Luck Stop & Shop, your decision is not a wise one. read more

Staff is always friendly and helpful- the gentlemen in meat department are ALWAYS helpful and friendly. Store is usually always clean and in working order. 95% of the time they have stocked items we want. Good selections & diverse brands in most aisle. Sometimes they do run out of things - but I don't hold it against them, supply chain issues are a thing. read more

Fooled me twice. What an absolute garbage excuse for a grocery store. Come here at 7:30 on a Friday morning they have one register open. And one self-serve register. Of course the register with a human being at it is breaking down she can't figure out how to work it. She also calls for a manager several times and no one comes for 10 minutes. Stay the hell away from Stop and Shop on Lake Ave Ext/Mill Plain Road in Danbury. I shopped at this location, with many complaints to management but it just gets worse. I HAD to give them one-star to post, otherwise, it would be minus stars! Yesterday, I tried to shop, cos they decided to task their lower-paid, new employees with pulling stock and attempting to rearrange it, leaving a huge mess everywhere. On top of that, with ZERO notice of this, they decided to remove every self-check-out to put in the same kinds of machines at other locations, like near the Walmart store on Rte. 6. Well, they didn't hook 'em up. They're just sitting around in a rectangularly roped-off area, non-functional. Yep, NOT SET UP. They had 4 checkouts open with ridiculous lines and they actually walled off, completely walled-in the butcher department so you can no longer see them or speak with them in there. So what ARE they doing in this secret section now? There's certainly "no transparency"! For all I know, they could be combining dog and cat into our ground beef. Finally, they installed sky-high walls around the EMPTY Customer Disservice section. No one home.... In frustration, I yelled up (most people know I don't NEED a mic) at the manager's office, that we should have gotten some kind of notice about this lack of self-checking out as there were never any signs posted. I left my FULL cart, including frozen and refrigerated items below their "lookout window" and walked out. They sell food that goes bad -fruit rotted in a couple of days. That's why you'll see these ridiculous buy 1, get 2 free. NO GOOD unless you live with a pack of wolves that eat everything in sight. The last straw was forgetting to bring back a THIRD quart of light cream yesterday, previously, 2 store-branded quarts, and this last time, Hood. Not a big fan of wasting five bucks for it, only to find it all curdling at the top because this stuff sits unrefrigerated or frozen for HOURS before it hits the shelves. Then, I went to the Route 6 store and re-shopped all over again, rather than give that store my money. After all this, let me state that the employees themselves are caring, hardworking people. Upper management is a complete joke in this franchise. It's one thing to save decent money, shopping smart. It's another to shop smart, only to have to throw out spoilt food and drink. Despite They lost me as a customer. The route 6 store seems less crowded for sure and I will either shop there or find another store without the prices of Trader Joe's. Ugh, a store for the well-off. So this is post strike and I usually go to this location. After the strike the place is a ghost town and the service sucks except for the man in produce. He's great. Today I was at the deli counter. I had a number I was next. The man in front of me was ordering a lot and I waited and waited. While waiting there were 4 staff behind the counter hooting and hoolaring laughing their faces off at exchanged stories while I stood there waiting. This is NOT the first time this has happened to me. Once I spoke up and I thought the young man was going to come over the counter at me. He was not happy he had to cut his story short with his pal. In fact 3 of them gave me the look of death for daring to ask for help. So I waited and after 20 minutes being ignored I left. Really what the heck? Don't they realize the strike and ignoring customers ruins business which = their job? I'm so tired of being ignored while employees act like their at a store holiday party. Due to the strike I went elsewhere. Think I'll just continue to give my $ to stores with staff that give a crap! This is the worst stop and shop location there is. read more

I don't usually shop at this store, but I just stopped to take some bottles back, which was flawless. My problem stems from inside the store. In the past I have usually taken my bottle receipts to the courtesy desk. As I walked up to the desk a lady said you have to take those to a register, so I do, by the way It's 9am so not many people in the store. There are like 8 self check out registers open and one standard register with people with larger orders. Is It me or do these stores get more stupid by the minute. I don't mind waiting but why do you have a courtesey desk If we can't use It . Makes no sense. read more

This is not a bad Stop & Shop, and I'm again disappointed that their stores in New England tend to be a bit better and more competitive than the ones in New York. The store is clean and well stocked, and the aisles are brightly lit and quite wide. There's a lot of specialty departments around the edges too. The employees seem to spend a good amount of time maintaining the produce department. Prices... well, this chain, in general, tends to be a bit above average, but if you watch for specials, discounts, and loss leaders, you can do all right. read more

I have been shopping at stop and shop on lake Ave for to many years to count. My bills are usually high, but as of recent I bring my own bags have been doing it for awhile, and the cashier just stand there and let the grocery's pile up and don't even help. I have always helped bag but now bread is squeezed out of shape because the cashier just keeps pushing while I am trying to bag, This was my last trip there Shop Rite here I come!! read more

This Stop and Shop location has been my choice supermarket for years but after today I'm unlikely to return. Today I stood on line at the deli counter and asked the server to slice some cheese for me. As she started to perform the action, I noticed her face was getting very close to the food and the mask she was wearing in the heart of this Covid-19 pandemic was not covering her nose. I was very polite and stated, "I'm very sorry, but your mask is not covering your nose, so I'm not interested." and walked away. I crossed paths with the manager and explained to him the situation. I said, "I'm not out for blood, but maybe you should have a discussion with her." He said, "Okay" and continued with his work. It was barely an acknowledgement, so I continued with, "I know sometimes the masks make it hard to breathe.." His response was, "Sometimes they slip off." I further stated, "I get that, but her face was so close the cheese." He just smiled but seemed unapologetic. We continued with our shop, and when we got to the check out, the cashier was the same way!... Mask on face, not covering nose. We hustled over to another line, and found a young man who was wearing the mask properly. I hope the store management is reviewing video from today so they will confirm my description of events. It's a shame they don't seem to care. I just had a new grandchild, and my daughter remains very cautious. I've taken a long vacation, and don't want to spend 2 weeks of it isolated from my family because of someone's carelessness. We spend anywhere from $500 to $1,000 a month there, but not anymore. read more

This is a well run grocery store. It is not quite at the level of the newer superstores like Wegman's in upstate NY, but it has enough diversity of foods to stay interesting, the prices are fair, the on sale items really are and they are available and the price wasn't raised the week before to create the next week's sale (unlike one store over on 22 in Brewster that is an utter dump that thinks its customers are fools and will hopefully disappear in the next year or two; nobody I know in my neighborhood went in there more than once ). One thing Stop N Shop has going for it is that it is part of a western European food retailer company (they also now own Hannaford ) so you see some items here not found elsewhere. The produce people stay on top of their stuff, culling the bad stuff out. People notice and we thank you. All in all a reliable grocery store. read more

This is my regular shopping place for groceries. I can't complain its always clean and well kept. Some times they are low on produce/fruits, and I wish they had a better presentation like Big Y does. But as a location itself it's great, sometimes it's hard to find help but usually there are people around. Can't complain about the prices either, they seem pretty fair/they usually have some nice deals going on. I'm glad to have it so close to me :) read more

I received amazing service in the meat dept while shopping at Stop and Shop on Lake Ave. I could not decide on what to get for dinner, when the associate Ronnie greeted me with a smile and asked me if he could help me. I explained my dilemma and without hesitation, he suggested that I combine filet mignon with sea scallops to compliment the meal. He suggested I pan sear them with garlic and butter. I was impressed by the extent of his ability to suggest something and his knowledge if the product. I left looking forward to the dinner I was about to prepare and his suggestion was perfect. The meal was absolutely incredible as was the service I received at stop and shop. Thank you Ronnie. I will return for more suggestions ! AC read more
