We stopped into the general store for lunch after a road race in Easton. The general store is small. Only a handful of tables, but it was delightful and quaint. The deli options are extensive and a bit overwhelming if I'm honest. I had a Reuben and gluten-free bread and my GF had a turkey sandwich. There are endless potato chip options and beverage options. We sat and had our lunch at one of the small tables. We really enjoyed our visit. If you're in the Newtown area, I recommend the new town general store and their deli. read more

Located not far from the flagpole on Main Street. I ordered from here for a work event. I had to order 70 breakfast sandwiches. It included a mix of ham, bacon, sausage, and plain egg and cheese sandwiches. The order was ready as promised, and I was helped outside. Sadly, I did not take a picture of the giant box that was given to me with the sandwiches. There is a special for one dollar off per sandwich when you buy a large amount. I don't know the actual amount. I had a ham, egg and cheese on a roll. It tasted really good especially for the discounted price. There is a huge drink selection and a full menu for breakfast and lunch. The decor inside is really cool. It looks like a store from early 20th century America with all the wood. Tables inside to sit and enjoy your food. I will definitely be returning to try one of their lunch sandwiches. read more

I get lunch here pretty much everyday . I love the nostalgic feel to it . Great price on their sandwiches.

What went well? Everything! It is now my main focus. I almost hate to share it because the prices and the unbelievable QUALITY of their food... OMG, INSANELY good!I can't believe I just heard about it!!! I now gey my lunch for work meetings; but I'm trying everything I possibly can and have been enchanted every time ! read more

The General Store is located in a old-fashioned wooden stand-alone building in the center of town. The store is the site of much activity, with young families, construction crews, and retired residents enjoying the relatively inexpensive sandwiches and opportunity to see others in the neighborhood. There are a few outdoor and indoor cafe tables available. The hot sandwiches are named for different locations in Newtown. The Castle Hill -- composed of baked ham, honey mustard, and melted Swiss on grilled thin rye bread -- was perfectly proportioned. It proved to be one of those dining experiences in which a menu item is elevated to become your only choice because you can't imagine other items can be as good! A plethora of beverages and side snacks are available to complement the sandwiches. I returned for breakfast-- also relatively low priced -- and was surprisingly disappointed. I tried a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich with an added hash brown, replicating what I had enjoyed at Sticks N Stones cafe in Mansfield, Connecticut. I also tried one of the coffee urns. The taste for both was oily and there was an odd aftertaste. In addition the bun appeared to have been pulled from cool storage and offered an unanticipated and negative contrast to hot contents. I recommend the Newtown General Store for quick lunchtime sandwiches at a reasonable price. Something to keep in mind... despite being a General Store they are closed on Mondays. read more

My daughter and I found this place while in town shopping for Prom dresses (Sabrina Style- great boutique). It has a nice, historic atmosphere and they offer a decent sized menu of breakfast items and a wide variety of sandwiches. That was in June. It is now July and we've returned several times for their great sandwiches. We are currently hooked on their sizzlin' sirloin steak sandwich with melted Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing. It's amazing. I took half of mine back home for my husband and as he took a bite, his eyes got big and he said "where the heck did you get this sandwich?! I think it's the best steak sandwich I've ever had!" So there you go. read more

We both had a chicken wrap that was very good and quickly made. I was looking for a bathroom but they didn't have one but said there was one next door at the town hall. That was ok since it was a Friday. We were traveling so I'll keep them in mind but not on a Sunday when the town hall would be closed. read more

This is my favorite deli in Newtown! Everything always tastes fresh and the staff is extremely kind. They have tons of signature sandwiches that are both delicious and affordable! Be sure to grab your favorite drink and snack to go along with it from their large variety. There are only a few tables inside but the rustic country store vibe is the perfect comfort level for Main Street. read more

Very nice place for quick sandwiches and drinks!! They have very nice sandwiches for and amazing prices . I always use their service for quick meals I recommend them!! read more

This place is great - a local gem. Sandwiches are all reasonably priced and you get quite a lot for the price you pay. Staff are also friendly and helpful. The shop is a nice place to sit (both indoors and outdoors) and enjoy a sandwich among other things (they have snacks as well as picnic type salads). Always great for a quick bite read more

As a new teacher in Newtown, my principal treated the new hires to lunch from Newtown General Store. That was a week ago and I've already been there 2 more times since. I've had 3 different (& unique) sandwiches and each one was beyond delicious! They also have a wide variety of drinks and chips, etc. to choose from (if you want). I have t friend their baked goods yet (don't know if they're made in-house or elsewhere) but they look phenomenal. And the BEST part.... They're so reasonably priced!! It's a win-win-win!!!! read more

A staple to Newtown. Without a doubt one of the best if not the best deli and breakfast sandwich place in this area! You can't go wrong getting either a breakfast sandwich or lunch sandwich from here because it's always delicious!! Great place to eat at or to grab your food and go and eat it somewhere else with friends or family~~ read more

Oh man, the stoke is off the hook!!! I don't want to blow up a good spot and create massive lines on my lunch break, but this is one legit deli. In 2021, they are selling quality sandwiches for $5 and change. Stamford and the like, you can KISS MY ASS with your $12 and up sandwiches. I'm so sick of the gouging for mediocre food. Not here though, pal. I had the Treadwell which was awesome. Note to self, next time I might add some hot sauce. Well I am a happy customer and good to know this place ain't far from my house. read more

I found a piece of hair in my food and asked them to remake my sandwich so I gave it back and I watched as they pulled the piece of hair off, wrapped it back up and hand it to me! I said I asked for a fresh one and they took it back again left it for a few minutes and then handed it back to me again! I couldn't believe my eyes and they were laughing on top of that! Ended up leaving without food and will never be back! read more

Been going to this place for 20 years!! So good!! Flagpole or sausage egg and cheese. Highly recommend.

This is the best deli / sandwich shop in the area hands down. For only ~$5, you can get a delicious lunch. I recommend their specialty sandwiches -- you can't go wrong with any of them. My favorites are the Flagpole, Bee, Treadwell, or Sandy Hook. In general their chicken cutlets are all very tender and are made hot & fresh. This is a group of local restaurants in Newtown and definitely a staple. Also one of the best parts is if you order breakfast sandwiches before 11am, you can get a sausage egg & cheese or bacon egg & cheese sandwich for only $1.75! read more

I come here way to often but they have the best sandwiches!! Such good quality and really cheap. I've tried many sandwiches but most recently I got the chicken Antonio and the Taunton hill. DELICIOUS!! It can get a little chaotic when ordering and waiting but it always works out fine. The store itself is also really cool! read more

For the love of breakfast sandwiches, don't go here for the $2.25 sandwich like I did. It tasted like salt, the roll was incredibly stale and the egg had zero flavor. I'd much rather spend $8 for a good one. The deli sandwiches looked good though ? read more

The most nostalgic place in newtown. A great place for brunch/lunch with the fam. Would recommend for lunch on rainy days.

If you're looking for a cheap lunch, look no further. I'm so obsessed with how great the quality of food is for the small price. I ordered a veggie burger and I'm not kidding it tasted so fresh and flavorful for only 3.75!!!!!! How is that even possible? We got a couple more sandwiches as well but I'm so impressed with the price points. You really can't beat it read more

Meh. It is what it is. I've been going here for 20 years. Not bad and not great. If they improved the quality of the rolls (not the rubbery kind), it would bump up to a 4-star rating read more

Updating just to say - still 5+ Stars! Never disappointed with the incredible Newtown General Store. The little deli in the back is unbelievable- every breakfast and lunch sandwich you could imagine... and everything fresh made and absolutely delicious. I haven't needed to, because their menu is fabulous, but you could create your own sandwich too. They have breakfast sandwich specials for under $2 before 11am... and all their regular lunch sandwiches are under $6-7 anyways. The flagpole is my go to - the juiciest lightly fried chicken cutlet, super delish crispy bacon, lettuce tomato and the creamiest ranch... get this one if you're unsure. Otherwise, EVERYTHING is unreal, order at the counter, pick up and pay and ENJOY!! read more

Ordered a chicken cutlet on a hard roll with lettuce tomato mayo and hot sauce. Cutlet was lukewarm and was not crunchy on the outside, very soft and mushy coating (and no, hot sauce was not touching it). Went to the register to pay and no one noticed me even tho two people were standing there. Worst sandwich I have every had! read more

Classic Newtown. If you're going to eat somewhere for lunch in town, make it here. If its a nice day, eat outside or take your sandwich over to the benches in front of the Edmond Town Hall. I like the idea of this little deli next to the town hall, that has everything from sandwiches to salads to a small general store like ambience. Stopped her on my way to Farmington, CT for lunch with my daughter. We had sandwiches and lobster bisque. The food was yummy and hit the spot. The staff was friendly. The store is ADORABLE, a real throwback to 100 years ago or so. Loved the old fashioned Americana vibe. Definitely worth a stop and not far off 84. read more

Yummy hot and cold sandwiches for unbeatable prices. Easy to order and pick up is a breeze!

Like an Old fashioned general store without the dry goods but with a tremendous deli. The sandwich I had, The Flagpole, was delicious and plentiful without being too much. Friendly, prompt service and great prices make this a place to get a great breakfast or lunch. They have an extensive menu too! There are two tables for seating, but we took ours out and ate roadside. I highly recommend the Newtown General Store. read more
