We stopped into the general store for lunch after a road race in Easton. The general store is small. Only a handful of tables, but it was delightful and quaint. The deli options are extensive and a bit overwhelming if I'm honest. I had a Reuben and gluten-free bread and my GF had a turkey sandwich. There are endless potato chip options and beverage options. We sat and had our lunch at one of the small tables. We really enjoyed our visit. If you're in the Newtown area, I recommend the new town general store and their deli. read more

Located not far from the flagpole on Main Street. I ordered from here for a work event. I had to order 70 breakfast sandwiches. It included a mix of ham, bacon, sausage, and plain egg and cheese sandwiches. The order was ready as promised, and I was helped outside. Sadly, I did not take a picture of the giant box that was given to me with the sandwiches. There is a special for one dollar off per sandwich when you buy a large amount. I don't know the actual amount. I had a ham, egg and cheese on a roll. It tasted really good especially for the discounted price. There is a huge drink selection and a full menu for breakfast and lunch. The decor inside is really cool. It looks like a store from early 20th century America with all the wood. My daughter and I found this place while in town shopping for Prom dresses (Sabrina Style- great boutique). It has a nice, historic atmosphere and they offer a decent sized menu of breakfast items and a wide variety of sandwiches. That was in June. It is now July and we've returned several times for their great sandwiches. We are currently hooked on their sizzlin' sirloin steak sandwich with melted Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing. It's amazing. I took half of mine back home for my husband and as he took a bite, his eyes got big and he said "where the heck did you get this sandwich?! I think it's the best steak sandwich I've ever had!" The General Store is located in a old-fashioned wooden stand-alone building in the center of town. The store is the site of much activity, with young families, construction crews, and retired residents enjoying the relatively inexpensive sandwiches and opportunity to see others in the neighborhood. There are a few outdoor and indoor cafe tables available. The hot sandwiches are named for different locations in Newtown. The Castle Hill -- composed of baked ham, honey mustard, and melted Swiss on grilled thin rye bread -- was perfectly proportioned. It proved to be one of those dining experiences in which a menu item is elevated to become your only choice because you can't imagine other items can be as good! A plethora of beverages and side snacks are available to complement the sandwiches. I returned for breakfast-- also relatively low priced -- and was surprisingly disappointed. I tried a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich with an added hash brown, replicating what I had enjoyed at Sticks N Stones cafe in Mansfield, Connecticut. I also tried one of the coffee urns. The taste for both was oily and there was an odd aftertaste. In addition the bun appeared to have been pulled from cool storage and offered an unanticipated and negative contrast to hot contents. I recommend the Newtown General Store for quick lunchtime sandwiches at a reasonable price. Something to keep in mind... despite being a General Store they are closed on Mondays. read more

As a new teacher in Newtown, my principal treated the new hires to lunch from Newtown General Store. That was a week ago and I've already been there 2 more times since. I've had 3 different (& unique) sandwiches and each one was beyond delicious! They also have a wide variety of drinks and chips, etc. to choose from (if you want). I come here way to often but they have the best sandwiches!! Such good quality and really cheap. I've tried many sandwiches but most recently I got the chicken Antonio and the Taunton hill. Like an Old fashioned general store without the dry goods but with a tremendous deli. The sandwich I had, The Flagpole, was delicious and plentiful without being too much.
