If you in a hurry, it is nice place to stop for fast sandwiches . Unfortunately they don't have restroom. Not really a room to sit inside, but you can find tables outside although not really a comfortable environment for visitors. The positives first ... Staff is polite. The place is always busy. Great selection of sandwiches. Prices extremely reasonable. First time I ordered a sandwich (on a weekend) with extra crispy bacon and it was spot on. However, the next time I ordered the same (on a weekday) and the bacon was fleshy with visible thick white fat. I picked the bacon off of my sandwich and figured they had a one off day. But the last time I ordered a sandwich (also on a weekday) and once again asked for extra crispy bacon and the bacon was cooked soft with lots of visible fat. Additionally, the sandwich was missing the mayo and the lettuce was rusty in spots. Sorry, that will be my last time. read more

I'm new to the places to eat in the Newtown area, but this place was great. Not good for sitting down or hanging out, unless it's warm outside, but if you're on the go and want a sandwich it's an great option. Went here for lunch when we were in a hurry. Service was pretty quick considering we ordered hot sandwiches. The sandwiches have unique names and flavors, and the ingredients are fresh. I had a hot pastrami sandwich, the lady had smoked turkey. Can't remember the regions of Newtown that the sandwiches were specifically named after...but both were delicious. They also have some convenience store type stuff like candy, chips, soda, etc. Don't expect to find motor oil, starter fluid or toothbrushes though. Not sure why they don't have that stuff...10W30 really brings out the flavor in roast beef (only the real stuff tastes right though, the decayed plants/dinosaurs kind, not that synthetic stuff). Service - Service was quick enough, and friendly. Price - Price is what you'd expect for a good sandwich with lots of ingredients. Insider Info: There are Deep River chips available on a spinning rack - good kettle chips with some unique flavors - plus they're made in CT! The Asian Sweet & Spicy ones were very good. Great little place to grab lunch -- whether you're a local or just passing through. "Deli & General Store" is the perfect description for it. It's got a very rustic, old school vibe: wood interiors, coolers in the back, a few rows of chips and other snacks for sale. The deli counter has other sides like potato salad and coleslaw, if you're so inclined. The menu board is long and has something for everyone. The food is simple, but it's affordable and tasty. Great for lazy weekends when you don't want to cook or if you're driving along Berkshire Road on your way out of town. The food is really good, but ever since it was taken over by different owners the service is horrible. Every time you call to place an order the girl on the other line takes the order, then says "okay", and then hangs up on you. I find that to be extremely rude, as I work in the customer service industry. She should at least thank you or goodbye that way I know my order has been taken and accepted. They also don't ask for your name which I think is odd as how do you know who ordered what? Unfortunately the issues do not stop there. Once you go to pick up your order it's a struggle to get the person behind the tills attention. I don't know how many times I have ordered over the phone and then have watched my food get cold while they call out others orders. They also have no idea who needs to order or who already ordered. Misty Vale is the same as the general store from my experience in terms of selection on the menu the food is amazing and would recommend anything. Specifically I would recommend going for breakfast, they have the best breakfast sandwhich was and you really have freedom to put anything you want on your sandwhich. (This review is from a visit on 11/16; I thought I had lost his review but found it in the drafts.) Amazingly fast and fresh! As the lone vegetarian in our group of three adults, I was panicking just now to find a suitable place to stop before we got on I-84, after traveling from Newport Rhode Island this morning. We had stopped a few miles earlier at the Henny Penny where I had put my foot down with my fellow travelers, refusing to buy one of the cellophane-covered plastic tubs of "fresh" sandwiches. Using the WAZE app, I found this wonderful place! My boyfriend and his father ordered meat subs (which they both exclaimed that the quality of the chicken and the turkey were really tasty) and I had their signature veggie wrap breakfast sandwich (eggs with melted Monterey Jack cheese smothering freshly cooked broccoli, mushrooms and tomatoes). You pay an extra $1.25 for their $3.75 breakfast sandwich if you are ordering after 11am, but it was money well spent for REAL veggies (and I have a thing for crisp steamed broccoli, all beautifully chartreuse-colored and full of texture and flavor that was enhanced by that melted gooey-ness). The other remarkable thing was that it was less than a five min wait for our three sandwiches, with a slew of locals popping in to order and to also pick up their online orders (which I would have done but we arrived at their parking lot before I had had a chance to place an order). My boyfriend and his father both loved their chicken sandwiches. I seriously doubt that we will be traveling that way again, but I encourage anyone in the vicinity to give it a try, and if you are a local, keep supporting this lovely establishment. read more

My brother is a Police Sergeant in a neighboring town, and was stationed at one of the houses of a Sandy Hook Elementary victim, protecting the family from intrusions. The grieving father went to my brother's vehicle and said he was welcome to come into the house to eat or use the bathroom, but he declined, because this is the family's time and my brother did not want to intrude. Later, a state trooper relieved him for food/bathroom break. My brother was in uniform, was ordering food and drink at Misty Vale Deli on route 34 and asked to use the bathroom. The employee said there was no public bathroom. My brother said how he was guarding one of the families, he just needed to use a bathroom (and he was about to pay), and the guy still said no, not a public bathroom. A customer overheard it and told my brother to follow him to his house, he can use their bathroom, and so there was no purchase made and brother followed this local and caring individual so he could do what was needed. This happened to another cop too, with another customer walking away and having the officer use the bathroom at her home. It saddens me that a police officer on any day would be denied the opportunity of a restroom, as their vehicles don't come equipped with port-o-pots. It makes me extremely upset, that in this time of community coming together in the aftermath of these tragic events, that those men and women in service are denied in this manner. You will never receive my money. read more

5 star for the prices alone. A good sandwich for about 5 bucks, cheaper than fast food. Other items like onion rings are really good. They are good quality for a basic deli.
