John Nolan is one of the Store Managers that works for the store in Long Branch, and he was and is a Jerk. That store like most Stop and Shops have no clue how to run that store. I've been to this location many times but never left a review for some odd reason, yet my experience today unfortunately prompted me to finally leave one. This isn't a case of 1 not so great visit that I will base the review off of, but rather a series of MEH (at best) visits and a few really poor experiences including today. There are always signage issues throughout the store with pricing not matching up to what it is signed to be but today's took the cake because it literally caused me to be late for an appointment due to the supervisor at the register not believing that there was a signage error and instead of radioing someone to validate, she made me go back TWICE to take pictures of what was mislabeled in order to prove I wasn't trying to get away with a discount :: SIGH:: I even asked an employee in the aisle if I was reading the signage correctly and he assured me I was yet still it took additional validation from another supervisor to provide the advertised discount. This took a good 10 minutes when it should've taken 10 seconds ... and this is unfortunately not an isolated incident because as I said I've previously encountered wrong signage / pricing issues and every single time it takes back and forth with the supervisors to rectify. Mario in the pharmacy is the best! I am on some special meds. My doctor tried sending it to my normal pharmacy, but they could only get the meds in smaller vials, and no needles. All other pharmacies in the area were only to help with one or the other as well. Even my Mail Order Pharmacy would only do the meds and not the needles. But then! Out of the darkness comes a dim light that grew into a powerful beam! It is MARIO! My savior! He did what no other pharmacy could do! He was able to get me what I needed! No fuss, no hubbub, no malarkey! He was able to get the exact meds in the exact amounts my doctor wanted, and he didn't have the needles in stock. But fear not! He did something no one else did! He ordered them for me. Where all other pharmacies failed, Mario came in. My knight in shining armor! He saved the day! Mario is an amazing pharmacist. He is completely by the book, and can smell a bad prescription 2 miles away! He will also go to the ends of the earth to help one of his customers. If it was not for Mario, id have to get my meds from 1 pharmacy, 1 needle form another and the other needle from a different pharmacy. He was the only person that was kind enough to go out of his way and get me exactly what I needed. As far as the rest of the store goes. They have a great floral shop! The manager there, Caitlin, always goes out of her way every few weeks whenever I want to surprise my wife with flowers. She has done a few events for us as well, and always does an outstanding job! I never had a bad experience with her. Other than that, it is a very clean store. Maybe not always the best prices.... But they always have a great selection of everything! They also have a whole organic aisle. Fresh meat and veggies. It is a super market! If your pharmacy isn't fulfilling your needs, this is where you should come! My only thing is that now with the covid, we have to wait online to go into the store. They should have some system in place if you are just picking up meds. Just a suggestions! And it happened again! After avoiding this Stop 'n' Shop for some time, I had to do my shopping there last week. I purchased a jar of Marie's Super Blue Cheese dressing, at almost $5. Why, why, why, given my past experiences, didn't I check the date? When I opened the dressing tonight it was, as jars in the past were, separated and greasy. The expiration date was JUNE 5, 2021! I concur with Jennifer M. I had a very good shopping experience today. This is not my every day store but I needed to go shopping early in the morning and this was the only store that was open before 8:00 am on a Sunday in the area. Positives: -Large, well-laid out produce section. In addition, when I could not find any fresh mint, I asked one of the staffers and they brought me both a crate of loose bunches and packaged mint. So nice! -Clean store shelves -Staff that asked if I needed anything -Easy parking -Quick checkout -Good hours Negatives: -Considerable traffic around the store can make it difficult to exit the parking lot -Small selection of kosher items -Does not carry white, free range eggs -Lack of fresh squeezed juice -Pandhandler blocked my entrance to the store. Great selection, kinda expensive. You really need to find deals every once in a while. Compared to other supermarkets around this is on the pricier side For sure. Besides Whole Foods this is one of the only Supermarkets that carries a large selection of healthy food options and organic food aisle. The stop and shop is large, it's in a shopping plaza along with Marshall's and children's place store. I like going here because the sushi is good, cold cuts are good and so is the bakery section. This location is home to two Redbox machines (it gets busy) and a cool coffee espresso machine by the bakery. Staff is friendly and helpful, they're never really in the aisles you always see them at the register or behind a counter (Not a bad thing). Well, just when this place couldn't sink any lower, I went on 5/17 and was informed that this stop and shop location no longer supplies customers with baskets for carrying groceries around the store... you know, those baby-carrier sized plastic boxes with handles... when a cart is overkill but 3-4 items gets tricky to handle? I of course asked what happened to those half carts half Easter candy holders and was told the following: "Ever since the new bag laws in NJ, customers steal baskets, and we went from having 95 to 45 in a few weeks." So--- instead of: 1. Deterring theft of baskets, 2. Getting more baskets to replace those lost, OR 3. At least leaving the remaining 50 baskets out for customers to use (and implementing #1 as protection from losing more) Nooe... now your choices are buy a cartload of $300 groceries or limit your purchase to what you can hold in your hands without dropping it. When the response / solution is far dumber and damaging to customers than the problem you're attempting to solve.... You're terrible at your job read more

My god - the bathroom is an absolute, literal Sh*tstorm. I couldn't believe my eyes. Okay it may have been a patron but I'm sure they were made aware because the nastiness reached the ceiling so whatever exploded in there (or should I say whomever) had to have reached managers to delegate a cleanup. It's a reflection on your employees since everyone knows that is the rest room they must use so how clean are those hands that are putting things away on the shelves, scanning your groceries or pushing buttons on the screens at self service? Rating refers to today's visit only. I stopped in today for two items, one was deli ham. At 1:15 there was one deli clerk working, three customers ahead of me. Ticket machine was broken but the clerk greeted me and told me I was next after man in black jacket. The first customer took a long, long time. Not the clerks fault, but there should have been two people working. Second customer took even longer buying a big order and trying out different items while deciding. Finally, the clerk started to help man in the black jacket. In a few minutes a second clerk came out and started putting on his apron. The first clerk told me to move over to the other slicer and new guy would help me. New guy asked me what I wanted. He then went to look for some gloves, wandering all over the area. then he took out a little brush and started to clean the slicer. Over and over. He. cleaned for five minutes. Then he turned around and looked in the case for the ham that I had asked. for. He picked one up,Unwrapped it looked at it for a few minutes and put it back. then he picked up another one, did the same thing, put it back. he dug around in the case for a couple of minutes. Then he went into the back, and never returned. By this time, the first clerk had also disappeared. So I left. Wasted 20-25 minutes and never got what I came to buy. Ended up driving to a deli in Montclair for my ham! I generally have no issues shopping at this store so I'm not sure if my 3-star rating is really fair. I usually love shopping at Stop & Shop on 1 Franklin in Bloomfield/Belleville, but the last 6 months or more has the most residually long checkout lines. Most of the time only 2 registers open and remaining self checkout working. Check out lines some times go to almost back of the store. They are truly understaffed especially during their busiest hours. My family & I find ourselves driving more often a few extra miles to their competitors just to avoid the long check out lines. With the long queues makes it difficult to shop too when you have customers blocking access to shelves when waiting in checkout line. Ridiculous! read more

Here's what this grocery store has going for it: - It's clean - It's organized - Parking is not an issue That's about it. Everything else is a nightmare. From the outrageous prices to the long lines, I despise going here. The only reason Stop & Shop gets my business is because it's the only major grocery store between home and work. If not for that, I'd be going to ShopRite every time. How can you only have 3 lanes open at 6:00 PM during the week? That's when everyone gets done work and seemingly when half of Bloomfield does its grocery shopping. Also, what's the point of using the 'Express Check-Out' at the deli before I start my shopping if my deli meats aren't prepared by the time I'm done my shopping? The new male pharmacist on staff (January 2020) appears to be drunk while on duty. I'm not sure why they've had such a significant staff shake up since the old staff was excellent. I was a 12yr customer and have consistently gotten run around by the new pharmacist. Every day it's been a new story. Avoid this pharmacy at all costs. I really like this Stop & Shop. For starters the self check-out is a time saver. I'm an "in 'n' out" type of dude, that convenience component very important. However sometimes I would have to go walk over to this one clerk and ask for assistance ( she is usually busy talking to co-workers). When I do get her attention, she doesn't have an attitude and is eager to help. This particular location offers a gluten-free, organic, vegan - ish aisle. Think Trader Joe's cramped into one long aisle. Hahaha. The bakery section is my arch nemesis. My wife regularly shops early in the morning - 6am. She likes the large size of this store and the parking lot is large. However, she has stopped going to this store because the 2 morning cashiers are always grumpy, slow, unhelpful and my wife suspects one of them was trying to steal her coupons. Wife stopped shopping here but gave it another try today. As soon as she saw the long lines and slow service, she knew that the rotten check-out ladies were still at the store! Wife arrives at clerk. This seems like a decent, average grocery store. It has a fairly large produce section, and the prices seem pretty on par for other grocery stores in the area. One thing I did like when comparing to others I've been to around me is that they sell live lobsters. Everything is pretty well organized. When I was over in the dairy area, an employee actually asked if I was finding everything okay. Typically I'm lucky to see anyone working on the floor, much less one that offers help, so I don't get some of the bad reviews for this place based on those aspects. I do have to say the parking lot gets crowded, especially since there are a few other stores in the plaza. The parking wasn't too bad, but if you want to make a left directly onto Franklin, you tend to wait a while for clearance, and if you try to make a right onto the side street so you can make a left at the light, you get stuck behind all the people trying to make a let onto the side street. So getting in is easy, but getting out if you want to get left will be a bit of a traffic delay. I don't know if their aisles are closer to the register than most grocery stores, but since I am new to this store, Sunday afternoons are just awful. The lines stretch into the aisles so if you are shopping you can't get around. If you pick a line and think you see a better one, you are stuck. It seemed like most aisles were open but it was still really crowded and slow going getting checked out. There are several check out yourself lines, but I don't know if those go quicker than cashiers or not. Probably luck of the draw. Our cashier said she felt hers was the only line moving, so I don't know if that's true or they have really inefficient cashiers, but even if you have a great shopping experience then have to wait 10-15 in line, it really dampens the whole trip. I will come again at a different time, but unnecessarily huge lines can really be a deterrent when there are other options around. read more

I've started going here in addition to my regular Shoprite. The store is decent over all. Decent isles, Ok selection of items and fair crowds. The prices are slightly higher than other major markets like Shoprite and soon to be defunct Pathmark. The cashiers I've had here are pretty friendly but what hurts the experience here is checking out in general. It lacks that deluxe express check out that shoprite has but in place of that they have self check out. seems like a worthy competitor but it stinks. My last 2 visits here using it theres always something wrong and someone has to come and fix it. The last time I waited almost 5 min. For someone to come. On top of this they ran out of bags at several checkouts, though I usually bring my own bags. Lastly I noticed some of the displays don't list the sale. I'll see items on the end of the isle, usually meaning "hey these are on sale!" But I've seen it like this with no mention of how much it is. Even checking on it in the isle didn't shed any answers though it may say so in the paper. I shouldn't have to be bothered to find someone to ask. I recently moved to Bloomfield & it was time to fill up my house with food. When I lived in Clifton, I shopped at the Stop & Shop on Broad Street & liked it a lot. I googled "supermarkets near me" and was delighted to see a Stop & Shop only 8 mins away. Oh, stupid, STUPID mistake!!! I admit, I should've just walked right out after the scene I witnessed upon entering the supermarket, but I didn't. This scene I'm talking about was right in the entrance of the store, I went to get my cart. I didn't really understand what was happening until after it was over bc I actually haven't ever witnessed someone shoplifting from a supermarket before! Lol. I see a kid in his 20's who looked like he'd seen better days and a larger man wearing clothes a person would wear if they were running errands or maybe I should say an outfit a man might wear to a certain kind of barber shop. Man puts his hand on the kid and tells him to get back into the store. Kid asks to see a badge and tries to continue walking out. Man (triple the size of kid) grabs kid and leads him to the back of the supermarket where I have no idea what goes on. So long story short, the man was a loss prevention security person & kid was a food shoplifter?? What could he have taken?? Lol. Anyways, back to the supermarket. I walk into the store to get my fridge filled. I look for the rack of scanning devices where you scan & bag your food as you shop so when you're finished- you simply scan your device & pay the machine. Easy, time saving & nice to avoid dealing with any interactions with people. I like to get in, shop and leave. Supermarkets aren't a place I like to spend large amounts of time at. Okay, there's no scanning devices at this location. I swallowed it. Their produce section was just awful!!!! Wilted salads, ugly & bruised fruit & MUCH smaller then the prior store. I realized this was a bad idea & not all Stop & Shops were created equally. In any event, I was there- I was getting what I could. Let's take a minute to discuss the restrooms. I had my 7 year old son with me. There was no way at this point I was going to force him to go by himself into the men's room while I waited outside for him. No way. I brought him into the ladies room. Sweet Jesus... we walked right out. There was urine, OBSCENE amounts of urine covering the floors and I doubt it had been cleaned in weeks. The smell was what made us both stop dead in our tracks and walk directly out. Let me tell everyone- DON'T TRY TO USE THE BATHROOM!!! I thought perhaps the men's restroom might be tolerable. I knocked on the door to see if anyone was inside as I am a lady & wouldn't want to accidentally walk up on a guy taking a leak. No one was inside. This restroom was even WORSE! Not going into further details then the ladies room, but it was BAD. My son decided he would hold it. Finally, we finished the shopping of standard items already knowing we'd have to go somewhere else for the majority of what was on our shopping list. Now we still have a cart full of food. I'm thinking to myself, "why are ALL these lines so long"? I saw the answer very quickly. Every single dam line was self checkout!!! Self checkout with an entire cart full of food. Of course this means you bag everything yourself as well. The "hold for assistance" error message went off no less then 20 times during this self checkout process. It was absolutely a DISASTER! FINALLY, paid & ready to leave! Thank you Jesus!!! Of course on the way to my car, a woman elbows me. I didn't even say a word. She turns around and tells me in a very nasty way, "EXCUSE YOU"!!! I am not proud of myself for even engaging with this individual. I was so frustrated and overwhelmed from my awful shopping trip, I sort of snapped. "How are you going to elbow ME, then tell me to excuse me??? Tell me how that works???" I insisted she answer. Apparently it was something having to do with her opinion on why my race was even shopping in "her" supermarket. Nothing to do with anything logical whatsoever. She can keep her nasty, dirty, unstocked, under staffed, HORRIBLE supermarket! I will NEVER set foot in that place again! It's amazing how two supermarkets owned by the same company could be so opposite from one another. I recommend to only shop here if there's some natural disaster coming & you want to stock up on 50 pound bags of rice. They had PLENTY of bags of rice. We both feel the same way along with our coworkers. The store itself has good deals and is stocked well. They even added a decent salad bar a couple years back. Unfortunately that is where the positives end. I have given this store 101 chances. I have actually written the store manager over a situation I saw happen between a cashier and a pregnant woman. This place is a nightmare! I just give up. No matter what time you go there you can be sure to wait on line at least 15 minutes. Even self check out is out of control. I went to pick up a few items and as I am handicapped I elected to use the electric carts at the front of the store as I have difficulty walking. What I found was 2 filthy carts that were in terrible shape. I was also told I would need a key to unlock and activate them from the customer service counter. An employee did see me by the carts and offered to retrieve the key for me which he did, but on his return I was informed I would have to provide a form of ID" ie" drivers license and leave it at the customer service desk to be returned to me after standing in line and returning the cart. REALLY!. This is a totally unacceptable and horrendous procedure along with an invasion of privacy and shows Stop and Shops prejudice and disregard for the difficulties encountered by disabled individuals trying to complete simple everyday tasks. Stop and Shop does not ask for "ID" from individuals who walk in the store and use a regular shopping cart so why only handicapped individuals Do they think we are thieves?.I opted to shop elsewhere and will continue do so unless conditions and procedures change. This is a form of discrimination against the handicapped. They need to step up and provide adequate safe and clean mobility assistance ready for use at will for those who require it.I have contacted their consumer affairs dept. and am awaiting a response and relevant resolution. They never have more then 2 or 3 cashiers working at a time regardless of holidays or time of day.
