The BBQ and sides are very good. It is within walking distance of everything in downtown Peru.

Atmosphere was decent food was ok. Not many choices in the area so will probably eat there again when in the area.

I had a beef brisket that was full of fat which most of it was. It is a shame they would dump this on their customers. I am not one to make a scene. You never know what you can get yourself into. I am just trying to warn others off. Probably just feedlot beef where they feed the cows trucks full of bubble gum. I went home and set on the toilet for a day. read more

Dine-in, Dine-outside weather permitting, take-away, or have it catered they do it all. The Menu Very complete menu. Many appetizers to choose from nachos and wings just to name a couple. The entrees I'm familiar with are Brisket, ribs, pulled chicken and pork, hot links and Brisket Taco's!! These were all very good. Many good sides including Mac N Cheese, beans, potato salad and Cole slaw. Southern BBQ's always have Jalapeño Cheese Grits. I don't like peppers and I don't like grits but I do like Jalapeño Cheese Grits. This maybe a good addition to their side offerings. They also have an excellent beer selection with lots of local options. I'm not a beer drinker but I always check out the options. They opened a beautiful addition in the former deli next door on 11/24. You can now also book a party of up to 100 for anyday, anytime. Thu - Sun you can come inside and order at the bar, or walk up to the new window and order, and they'll bring out to you. some mighty fine bbq. The owner started out in the competition circuit and then mastered catering. He's opened a wonderful looking space, to offer his customers an enjoyable dining in experience. The staff couldn't be any nicer and the kitchen is already firing on all circuits. The ribs and brisket required no sauce, but I did enjoy a splash of the peach chipotle sauce on them. Definitely the most cheesy mac n cheese I've every experienced. A few patrons around me at the bar tried the poutine special, and loved it. I look forward to a return visit. read more

I was in town for work and I was trapped there during a parade. Well, my car was trapped, turns out I was more than content spending a little extra time on my meal conversing with the incredibly attentive staff. I was carded since I was ordering alcohol and I'm not certain if he was a manager, owner, or just a bartender, but doesn't matter because he took the time to remember my name and to chat with me a bit. The food was really quite good, for the price I think the quality is really quite up there. Excellent beer selection with lots of local options, if you get a domestic you are absolutely missing out. It is also worth noting that the entire restaurant was SPOTLESS. Bathrooms, cleaner than most kitchens I've seen. We live about 20mi away and have been wanting to stop, so we did today. There is only outdoor seating, for now :) but on a nice day it is ok to sit outside. Very clean and friendly place. Sandwiches are stuffed on a roll that doesn't soak up all the juices like your typical cheap bun. We had a few samples of other things: mac & cheese was very good, cole slaw was very good also, and I threw some of that on my sandwich with more sauce (one of 3 that they have). Stopped here on a winter road trip. Unexpectedly good. Definitely the best wings I've had, like, ever. The texture was perfect, not over or undercooked. I genuinely just learned what it's like to eat a properly cooked wing. The brisket was like making love to an angel and a cowboy all at the same. I think there should be a spicier chili option. Sometimes I just want some chili that will make me sweat. That said, the flavor profile of the chili they had was pretty good. It tasted light and vegetal up front, it obviously hadn't been cooked for a super long time, but it was really really great nonetheless. A really wonderful smoky-meaty flavor lingers after a mouthful though. Everything here goes well with whisky, beer, or really heavy red wine. Environment is very clean and well composed, staff is super nice. Bathroom had the coolest paper towel dispensers I've ever seen. I liked the music. read more

This is one of the few times I haven't smothered the meats with bbq sauce at a bbq joint. We got a juggernaut to share, and that includes generous portions of 4 types of meats. The smoke flavor of the meats shouldn't be covered up at all. I also loved the cornbread, which had a lot of honey in it, I think. Strangely, the brisket tasted a lot like summer sausage to me. Must be something in the rub. My wife did not taste that, so it's probably just me. The cheesy hash browns were not what we expected, but they were very good. Yep, this is a bbq joint. Order at window? Check. Have burnt ends? Check. Use a real smoker? Check. Sell meat by the pound? Check. Great sauces? Well, three out of the four offered were excellent, check. Great cornbread? Check. So how's the meat? I recommend their chicken and their brisket, especially the impossibly tender burnt ends. Not as much char as some I've had, and I like char, but there's no getting around how tender and tasty they were. For bourbon lovers, they have a decent selection. The girls really liked their wrap sandwiches. My son and I differ on their ribs, he loved them, while I've had better. Mac and cheese was good, but the side portion is single serving unless you eat like a bird in which case maybe two of you can do it. I recommend ordering the larger portion for 2 or more. My new husband and I had Stone Jug cater our wedding at the Silver Fox in Streator, IL. We met them months before and had an informal tasting at their location in Peru. We tried their brisket, chicken, pulled pork, and a selection of their sides. Delicious. Needless to say, we fell for them and booked them right away. At the time, they did not have an appetizer selection. Though they did work with my groom to create several choices. We had two appetizers during our cocktail hour. They arrived on time, served the food on time, and did so with a lovely smile. Our guests RAVED about our food. I know everyone says that, but literally, I had NO complaints. It is real food! It's not banquet food. It's food that people would eat at home. Comfort food. Cornbread, Mac&Cheese, brisket. Yum! I would suggest to them that they should develop their appetizer selection. Absolutely amazing spot! I came here for a late lunch with a friend after hiking in Matthiessen State Park before driving back to Chicago. We ordered the burnt ends/brisket combo, and pulled pork sandwich. Everything was *chefs kiss*, especially the burnt ends. Took my Southern Appalachian Mountain relatives, who were visiting for Memorial Day Weekend. Mmmmmm! We all LOVED it! Even my cousin who's a brisket master himself! The side dishes (mac'n'cheese, coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad) are awesome! Maybe think about offering homemade thick-cut potato chips or french fries as a side choice? The pork and brisket are each smoky and juicy (didn't try the chicken), and the sides are perfectly seasoned to "accompany AND compliment" the meats. (Unlike the other local BBQ place in LaSalle that seems to put their rub/seasoning in EVERYTHING....one needs a break from the heat sometimes!) Stone Jug's sauces are a tad bit spicier than I like but not outrageously so. And the one with Dijon mustard, to me, was WAY too Dijon-ny. (Not mustard-y like regular mustard but that "sharp" note that Dijon has was too prominent, in my opinion....). However, if you "don't do" spicy, maybe sample the sauces beforehand. The meat is delicious on it's own though and needs no sauce unless you want it. My favorite sauce was the one with honey. The food is first rate and my husband and I are looking forward to going back again! Just wish they had LONGER HOURS! At least an extra hour......it doesn't get dark 'til 9p in the summer!
