Stone Crossing station serves the village of Stone in the borough of Dartford, on the North Kent line.
Although the line was opened in 1847, a station was only provided here in 1908. The attractive old-fashioned gated level crossing after which it was named was, however, closed in 2018. A footbridge (with both steps and ramps) has been erected to replace it.
The station consists of two long platforms, each of which has a small 'bus-stop' type shelter, with a ticket machine. A ticket office which is open Monday - Friday, 06:45 - 10:00. Despite the very limited facilities, it is used by over 250,000 people a year.
The normal off-peak service comprises four trains an hour in each direction. Two trains an hour operated by Southeastern to Charing Cross (via Sidcup); two Thameslink services to Luton via Greenwich; two to Gravesend; and two to Rainham, via Chatham.
Although the footbridge provides step free access across the railway line, there is a small number of steps to access each of the platforms. Ramps (operated by staff) to provide step-free access to the carriages are provided on each platform. read more
