Update 11/8/20: see comments on my personal Facebook page…read more(Maureen Holmes) for comments on Robin Boyce after posting my review there. Unfortunately I am not the only one who has endured a bad experience with her. MH I warn anyone who will listen away from this unethical business and owner Robin Boyce. I had the misfortune to be her client and endure her careless, unprofessional, dishonest and ultimately abusive and vulgar treatment. My "custom kitchen" arrived without the custom elements and with a grossly oversized refrigerator. The kitchen designer blames someone else for a major kitchen error and refuses to fix it! (See photos) I had the exact same experience with the shutters and the custom stair-runner I ordered from her. They were both delivered with errors and missing parts, and Design West has done NOTHING to correct its errors. This is the worst experience I've ever had with another human being, period. I never received an apology on any mistake I swear to God. That's when I realized too late I had hired the wrong person. Robin Boyce/Design Center West scammed me by promising professional results and delivering dirt. Robin Boyce then turned verbally abusive when confronted with her easily disproved lies. (I have all documentation to prove my charges.) This last point deserves special mention. When I expressed my dismay at the errors, delays and lack of accountability, her demeanor shifted immediately from friendly to combative and borderline violent. It was a shock to learn the owner wasn't just a sleaze but mentally unhinged too. When I confronted her in her store after she ignored my contractor's emails and texts, she began screaming profanities at me while hurling insults about my appearance and character, which I presumed was an intimidation tactic. That felt sickening, but it worsened when she came at me with her arm pulled back as if to throw a punch, but thankfully she stopped herself before landing her fist in my face. I feel certain the only thing that stopped her was a possible assault charge. I would feel sorry for Ms Boyce if she wasn't a thief, and if her emotional instability didn't manifest in such an ugly manner. But no mental state excuses her dishonesty, mentally healthy or not. Not a word of this review is hyperbole. I lost thousands of dollars and was blindsided by a venomous verbal assault because I had the temerity to call out Robin Boyce on her mendacity and fraud. I could provide a colorful litany of her actions, but suffice it to say that it involved a lot of obscene finger, hip and hand gestures. Incidentally, her staff just sat there like dummies the entire time and let it all happen. Apparently they don't have an issue working for such a repulsive woman. Prior to my dealings with her, Robin was verbally abusive to my contractor on multiple occasions as well when he asked her about delayed deliverables. Following is an example of one the few correspondences between him and Robin that isn't littered with her F-bombs: "Shut up. Stop talking. Don't tell me what to do. Its not Maureen... its you. I'm surprised guys take your mouth, and the way you talk down to others; I suspect you've been punched a few times." This is the first---and I hope last--bad review I ever had to write. Let this brutally honest review serve as a public service announcement to warn others away from this troublemaker. Do not hire Design Center West. You will pay a premium for sloppy, mediocre results, and the owner will curse you when you express your dissatisfaction. This has been a yearlong nightmare that only ended after I hired someone else to fix all of her mistakes. Caveat emptor!

Even during the pandemic she has been on top of things and instructing me to get things ordered prior to shipment delays. She and her team have been responsible, proactive, and truly professional. They are communicating with my contractor and his team and his cabinet installer told me it was such a pleasure working with them he would like to do more jobs with them. Any mistakes (Fedex dropped a vanity and it cracked) were handled quickly and replaced at no cost to me. Her attention to detail is incredible. Additionally, she was very focused on saving me money and making sure I was not buying things I did not need. It has been a true pleasure working with Robin and her team again. I cannot say enough good things about them!

One explanation later, he said "Ok, I'll text you with a quote shortly." I kept a short list of other contractors as I thought that just like every other contractor (10+), he'd say he didn't want to deal with the slope in our 1800's house or that he couldn't find the granite to match, or that he wouldn't be available until December. Yet, no. Igor quoted us a reasonable amount and came down just a bit when we negotiated. Huge plus for the follow through. He said he'd show up today and he did. Another plus. He said he'd do it in a day. I didn't believe him. Yet, look at our beautiful island that matches the rest of the kitchen. The best part is that I had to explain what I wanted once and he knew what to do. Every other contractor had me explain several times. One even said that doesn't make sense. Why? I left him to work and was worried that when I wasn't watching he'd do something wrong, based on my experience. Yet again he did a great a job without anyone having to look over his shoulder.

I just bought my first house. It's close to Boston, meaning I compromised by having one bathroom…read more Unfortunately, my bathroom required a hazmat suit to enter and use. My wife and I closed extremely quickly on the property as part of our agreement to get the house at the price we wanted which gave us no time to plan a bathroom remodel. I met with 6 contractors, all but one was prohibitively expensive. the least expensive contractor came to see my bathroom and was impatient on the verge of being rude. He told me flat out he wasn't going to draft a bid because it was a waste of his time if I didn't choose him. How would he act during the project? I was considering doing the project myself somehow while working my full time job and maybe renting a port a potty and building an outdoor shower, since the house only has one bathroom. Luckily I got in contact with Igor from IM Solutions Group through a friend and gave it one more shot to see if I could find an affordable contractor that I could work with. Igor's bid was extremely competitive, he was easy to talk to, completely understanding of what we needed and the time frame involved. We went with him. The project wasn't completely smooth, there were probably 4 or 5 layers of old bathroom that had to be removed, the iron drain for the toilet was on the verge of crumbling and the sub floor was rotted due to a leak from the toilet. I think the previous owners never removed or fixed anything before adding another layer as a "remodel." My wife and I chose the tiles, vanity, tub etc. for the bathroom but I almost wish I hired Igor to design my bathroom instead. I don't know if he does design services but he has a great eye for design and made several recommendations for features and products that we used and love, like our beautiful glass shower door. Igor put everything together in 2 weeks. He stayed extremely late one night to get the project done so we could avoid using Dunkins bathrooms when our move in date arrived. He would have finished on time if WE didn't make changes during the project. It's clear that Igor has an amazing attention to detail, vast knowledge, strong work ethic and ALSO has great customer service skills. I will absolutely use him for my next project.

While cost was important, we ultimately selected John and Canty Brothers Construction because we felt most comfortable with his communication style - something which you cannot underestimate the value of when undertaking a project such as ours. There was never a point during the six month project when we felt as though we were either being taken advantage of or had made a mistake in contractor selection. We were also quite impressed with and trusted his opinion on building methods and materials, product knowledge, and clear desire to provide a quality product and ensure customer satisfaction. We chose to live in our home during the renovation, which can be a very high-stress situation. While it was not entirely stress-free, Canty Brothers did their best to ensure we were as comfortable as possible the entire time. Both my husband and I work full-time, but were fully involved in the project, receiving updates before we departed for the day as well as when we came home. They communicated with us via email and phone throughout the day if something came up, and were sure to involve us in important decisions right down to those that were a bit more mundane at our request. Our home and grounds were kept as neat as possible during the project, and they made an effort to clean those areas which we were still living in at the end of each work day. We were very pleased with the entire Canty Brothers team, as well as the subcontractors they work with. All were professional, cordial and performed great work. If and when there were issues, John and his team were extremely responsive and quick to resolve them. It is clear that they take great pride in the work that they do and in ensuring that their customers are happy with the end result. We are thrilled with the outcome of our addition/renovation and would not hesitate to recommend Canty Brothers Construction to friends, family, and neighbors, or to use them again for future projects.

My husband and I made the mistake of not holding money back from Canty Construction. It was the height of the pandemic and companies were panicking. I mistakenly felt that if we showed good faith in this company, they would reciprocate. I was wrong. They took our money, and failed to complete the work. I have maintained the documentation showing how they ignored our requests, locked us out of our project as punishment when we asked questions, and failed to complete work in a timely fashion. Yelp is not the place to argue my case, however. We'll do that in court. A year later we are still patiently waiting for contractual and warranty items to be completed. I ask for a timeline and only get vague replies. They have come back and fixed minor repairs, but more significant work is pushed back or refused, such as roof repair, and gutter installation, and even a plumbing repair. We paid 653,000 dollars. We are disappointed with the lack of clear communication, organization, and follow through. Because we paid in full, they are not rushing to complete poor and incomplete work.

But when Luis sent over the estimate, he included this; "We will make sure it fits before we leave." Smart man. And guess what, Luis was right. The wood on the cabinet underneath was not allowing the cook top to fit and it too needed to be cut. The men picked up the cook top a few times in order to try to see if it fits. Very personable, kind men. The only thing I didn't like was the dust but when you have to cut granite inside a house, it can't be avoided, unless they tape up plastic. But, you still get dust. The estimate was 275-475 and it completed the work for 325 cash. We are very happy with this company and would recommend them.
