It was not easy! I don't know how the brew master at Stone City Ales made beers that I really enjoy! After the first sip of their Windward Belgian Wheat, I know I am going to get at least a 32oz Growler ($9+$4 deposit) home. The staff was friendly and let us do a free sampling of all the beers that was available for purchase. I even love their Grizzled Hipster which is a Double IPA!! I found most of their beers were smooth and balanced, just the way I like mine! Sadly their Jacquline Belgian Pumpkin Saison was SOLD OUT as it was just perfect for the Autumn Season. Taproom opens from 5 pm till midnight but they are more than willingly to pour you a pint $7 during the day if they are not too busy. A flight for $8 is not a big deal either! Really good beer from my own home town! Service is always friendly and prompt in my experience. A nice place to chill with a pint or two and a few nibbles. You can buy growlers and squeelers, which they will trade back when you return for more beer. Every time we come back home to visit my family, we make a pit stop here! Cheers! read more

Dammit I wish there were such a great IPA as the Uncharted IPA in Montreal. It's the definition of excellent American IPA with a strong grapefruit aroma, substantial mouthfeel, very hoppy flavour with a good balance between floral notes and sweetness, a lingering but pleasant bitter aftertaste. This rivals the Heady Topper imo. There is a long reddit thread about how the pint is 16oz instead of the standard Canadian 20oz but that is probably symptomatic of the great beer at Stone City Ales giving people newfound genius and philosophical perspectives in life. read more

GREAT food -- expanded menu with suggested drink pairings. The ale is all beautiful (the one's I've tried) Not a good spot for a quick lunch but super when you have time for a leisurely snack or meal and a bevie or two! Suggestions: cheesecake dessert (sugar overload), dumplings, jalepeno poppers and the sandwiches are delicious. read more

Finally Kingston has some great craft beer. Everytime I'm in town I stop in for some squealers to take home. I usually sit at the bar and have a pint while watching all the hipsters mingle and listen to music on vinyl. Rathlin Gael and Uncharted IPA are my favorites. Please bring back Grizzled Hipster. Great atmosphere with friendly and very knowledgeable staff. Started out the night with pint of Ladies First Imperial Sour Stout (special release) and then had the Windward Belgian Wheat (mainstay). Both very good, flavourful beers. If you like true craft beer you need to check this place out. For food I had the Banh Mi Gently - outstanding flavours. The baguette was fresh the meat sweet and tender and the toppings really completed the sandwich. Wish that the 'substantial' section of the menu automatically came with a side. World class beer all across the board. IPAs are all in the vein of the new modern soft and juicy trend with minimal bitterness and tons of hop aromas. English mild with vanilla and lactose was delightfully smooth and balanced. The new Gose is so great it should create a new variation on the style. Trying 8 beers yesterday everything was very impressive and I would recommend a trip out to the area just to visit this brewery. I tried the IPA and the sour and neither was particularly memorable. We enjoyed their patio and the service was good.

The food was great, but the hoppy beer they were brewing in the restaurant stunk. If you're not used to the smell of brewing beer and get queasy easily, beware! I can't complain about the eggplant sandwich and chips + dip I had though. Yum! read more

I've been here plenty of times and the food and service is always great. It's not a place for a full sized dinner if you're a big eater, but what is on the menu is quality with great ingredients and good flavour combos. Went here for a few beer prior to a Frontenac game. Establishment was exactly what I expected. Beer is excellent; the ale I had sports an IBU of abut 70-75. The server was also very good about allowing us to try "samples" of additional beers at no charge. Minimalist food available to complement beer.......if they would simply add bratwursts on a bun with sauerkraut stars would be bumped to 4 to 4.5. Took home a growler, going back tonight! read more

Let's start with the positives, the yacht rock gose was excellent, we took a couple bottles home with us. The spring salad and charcuterie board were both excellent but the portion size on the charcuterie board was very disappointing. We ordered the board for 3, 2 meats 1 cheese. The chunk of cheese was the size of my thumb, the serving of salami slightly larger, we got a half dozen twoonie sized slices of Calabrese...all delicious but it was listed as a serving for 3 and was no more than a snack for half as many people... great tasting but super stingy portion sizes read more

Expect 50 per cent less food than the meal you were hoping to get, and expect the price to be 50 per cent higher than you expected to pay, then you won't be disappointed. Better yet, eat somewhere else and go here for the beer. The beer was great. Some of the dishes served to our group of four were tasty, but quantities were skimpy. Stone City is a great casual place to chill and enjoy good beer. The staff are very knowledgeable and allow sampling of their draughts. It's best in the summer when they open the front. It is usually quite congested, so get there early. read more

They have great food and beer, but their service staff do a really poor job. None of the staff are knowledgeable about ingredients in the dishes and the menu isn't well marked for people with allergies or dietary restrictions. One waitress was more concerned with chatting with her boyfriend than actually serving tables and spent more time talking to him than with other paying customers. The servers also man the cash for walk-in beer sales so at busy times it might take a long time before they even take your order. It would be a really great place to go out to if they had better staff. read more

What a great dining experience we had 8/17/15. We arrived around 7PM and were greeted by Nicole. She is AWSOME! We were not familiar with the beers made here and she patiently allowed us to sample the offerings until we found one we enjoyed. I was very impressed with their IPA, my wife had a light wheat beer. The appetizers a entrees are far beyond what we expected from an establishment that is marketed for their beers. Their chef is as talented as their brew master! The menu featured mainly locally made products. Their appetizer called pick 3 or pick 5 was delicious assortment of meats, cheezes, and vegtables. All fresh! We were hungry, the sandwiches were filling and yummy. I had a grilled chorizo/cheeze/meat, wife had salami/ cheeze, both were outstanding. After the bar got busy another staffer picked up where Nicole left off and made sure we were pleased with our meal, their service, and their food. We were. We will definitely be back!
