I love coming to this little shop inside Pacific Place Mall (in the NE). It's a…read morekitchenware/houseware store that's located just through the main mall entrance and right beside the T&T bakery. Inside this kitchenware shop, you can find all that you need for your kitchen. This tiny shop is such a hidden gem. You can easily walk pass it and wouldn't believe the amount of various kitchen tools and gadgets there are inside! I just moved to Calgary, so I picked out beautiful Asian rice and soup bowls here, ceramic soup spoons, gorgeous chopsticks, a new Tiger rice cooker (made in Japan), electric Tiger-brand water boiler, ceramic cups, ceramic tea pot with a stainless steel strainer inside, a long wooden spatula (longest cooking spatula I've seen--perfect that it's long to avoid the heat when cooking) beautiful Korean non-stick wok (is so thick it has so many layers this wok will last for many years), dish dryrack, dish-washing gloves (is so thick! Much better than those cheap/thin Dollar store dishwashing gloves), pot trivets, a stainless steel soup ladle, a new stainless steel pot, stainless steel strainer, Swing-Away can opener (FINALLY! A can opener not made in China. SWING-AWAY can openers are made in USA--works SO well), Kiwi-brand knives (these knives are so sharp, from Thailand--love 'em!), a knife sharpener, granite mortar and pestle, wooden and plastic cutting boards, an amazing red vegetable peeler (works so well--made in Japan!), a cheese grater, cheese cloth, ginger grater, citrus reemer, lobster cracker, some plastic/stainless steel basins and colanders for washing and drying veggies and fruits, a handy/convenient dust pan and broom (I don't need to bend down to sweep; I can stand and sweep now--awesome invention!), comfy red sandal-type slippers (made in Taiwan) for my hardwood floor and Asian slippers for carpet, some Sterlite-brand garbage cans for my kitchen and bathroom (I even got a baby garbage can for my car--so cute!), marble paper towel holder, and a 3-compartment storage container (don't really know how to explain this) for one sugar container, one salt container, and the third maybe a flour container that I lay on my kitchen counter by the stove.
And I couldn't believe Amazing Houseware has papaya salad peelers (I bought the Kiwi-brand from Thailand--works incredible for papaya and carrots to make Thai green papaya salad!), and a large Thai clay mortar and pestle for papaya salad! I had to get my hands on those. SO HAPPY I got those as well. Now I can make papaya salad for cheap instead of going out to Thai restaurants where they charge $10-$14 a plate for papaya salad when I could make my own plate at home using a whole papaya for a cheap price.
This store even sells the Japanese mandolin slicers that I see famous chefs on cooking shows and home cooks on Master Chef using, to slice large amounts of veggies into very thin slices. Wow, always wondered where I could get those. Now I found the place!
On my next visit, I wanna go back to Amazing Houseware to get a stainless steel steamer for steaming fish, dimsum, veggies, meat, etc. And a hot pot, portable stove, and hot pot ladles so that I can invite friends over for hot pot during the colder Fall/Winter seasons instead of going out to pay for ~$25 hot pot at a Chinese restaurant. I can see why so many homecooks, chefs, and restaurant owners frequently visit this small shop (talked to the owner). You can find a gazillion of kitchen tools here in this tiny space. I'm so glad I came across this little hidden gem--I found everything I needed all at once for my kitchen and home. I was very satisfied and happy with the items I bought and the qualities of each of them. Will be coming back again to check out other kitchen gadgets I might have missed! :)
