Inside i am always suprised as to just how quiet it is. But due to its vast size im sure any sounds just dissipate. Some of the lighting if i remember correctly is very orangy, weird becasue it doesnt actually affect your reading. They also offer computers which you can use for a small aount of money. They also offer rental of some cd's and dvd's too which is a great addtion. If your into books or need to do research this is the place for you!

Am now doing an Open University course, an am able to use the facilities of the library. The facilities are still the same, and they have an extensive range of books, but they could do with more people on "patrol". It was definitely quieter in my day! Wanting a bit of quiet space for some study, I went to the "quiet area, single study only". Most people were hanging round in groups chatting. Heard some very loud conversations from the other end of the room about what people had been up to the night before. When I was there before, there were a lot of staff that would have had words for people being that noisy, but nothing happened. I am but one person, I was not about to challenge groups of 6 + gobby students! Plus, it was freezing! Yes I know it is cold at the moment, but i had my snowboarding base layers on under my jeans, 2 jumpers and a hoody, but I still had to keep my coat on in there it was that cold. Did my studying today in the pub as it was quieter than the library!

what a great library - i used to come here every saturday back in the day before i had a computer…read moreat home with internet access! there were only a few computers, but you could call or go on the internet to book the use of one. that was a really easy booking system. the library and museum are great - they have lots of things always going on - went to a talk about stars recently which was very interesting. the place is clean, and there are always lots of staff milling around. the updated book checking in/out system is great, the staff are very helpful if you don't know quite how to use it. they have a great selection of books, and luckily if they dont have something themselves they do get things in from surrounding libraries quite quickly. the fiction section is good, but they could do with more books in other areas. there are a few seating areas if you want to have a read of something. good childrens reading area too, always looks full and fun! i hear that this is the most used library in the whole of the uk, i can believe it, it's a great treasure in the heart of rugby.

They have information on events (mostly local), council services, education and work, business information and various local and family history. Unlike many other libraries that are local to Solihull, here they have a large amount of computers and a host of books on different subjects. There is pretty much a book for any subject and if there isn't then it's pretty easy to find out where to get the information you want. You can also rent DVDs and CDs. Librarians can be a bit boring and come across negatively and here some of them are no different. However, some of them are very friendly. They are all very helpful though and knowledgeable on everything within the building. I've been to the library theatre a few times and have really enjoyed the shows put on here. Before a show, or in general, I like to go to their cafe where they have some hot and cold snacks. The food can be eaten in or taken away. As the library is in a courtyard you can also enjoy the lovely water feature outside. This is definitely one of the best libraries I've been to in Birmingham.

With most of the usual library trappings (you know books, CDs, DVDs, internet) and some extras thrown in. Their local and family history department deserves special merit. They have an excellent children's library. Upstairs is also a public gallery with collections changing on a regular basis. Sadly, Solihull Library isn't what it used to be. They still have a fairly good stock of books and some CDs but the music library isn't what it used to be. There are plenty of DVDs but often they are just the modern rom-coms and nothing much else of note. Finding a member of staff to help you might be your biggest problem. If you are happy to stumble along without any assistance and use a self serve machine to issue and return your own books then this is probably the library for you.

However if you're just looking for what ever takes your fancy, then it's a great place to go. It is nice and quiet plus they have some computers there, so it's an excellent place to work or study and you can pop to the Morrison's for some lunch. The staff are nice and friendly too. They have a photocopier there and they can reserve and order in books (for a small fee). It also a nice place to take your children and get them into reading.

We would sit in there practically for hours on end reading books, we practically begged our mum to go down there with us so she could let us join the library, she eventually agreed. We would usually get the maximum amount of books out that we were allowed and weirdly enough read them all before the week was up. They have a little table where we would occasionally sit and do our home work. You could loan books, magazines, baby toys and video tapes (probably DVD's now as well). I remember the staff always being really friendly.

In addition the staff are polite and helpfull is you need any assistance. The library has very good opening hours, staying open til 19.00 most week days. Only real negative is the internet is £3.00 an hour to use within the library which is not really competitive with other internet cafes locally.

They have an internet service there too so you can use the internet to check email and do research in a quiet environment, I found this really helpful when our internet connection at home was playing up for a few days while we waited for the engineer to come out. It stocks books as well as CDs and DVDs and talking books. It's a really peaceful place to do a bit of reading too.

It's a smallish library, but there's a great selection of books, and a good study area with all the reference books to hand. The computer terminals are all internet connected, you just need to get yourself a password. You're only allowed an hour online if there's a queue (and there often is), but hey it's free! The librarians are always friendly and helpful too. The only thing that's missing is Sunday opening and a coffee shop. ;-)
