The really wonderful thing about Home Spun is that anything they can't sell in the store (cutting boards and irons and the like) they offer to the residents of Project HOME for free. So if you're looking to donate, I highly recommend you donate here! I stopped by yesterday (for the first time) to check out their clothing selection, and was really impressed with some of the finds. I bought two designer work dresses for $6 each (normally dresses are $10, but they had a 40% off sale)! First of all, Project HOME is a wonderful cause that I encourage anyone to support. 100% goes back to their organization that helps homelessness. Second, I have found clothes such as a vintage dress from J. Crew, a business dress from Theory, and other great finds -- and I have never spent more than $10.00 each visit. It felt like I walked a city block to reach the back of the store. Prices are cheap cheap cheap; the entire back of the store is $3 to $5 & I would wager that nothing in here is over $25. However, the merchandise is pretty uninspiring. It basically runs from basic to trendy. Nothing formal or suitable for the office. The shoes & handbags are pretty tacky, and the quality of clothing construction runs from subpar to average. I had to leave because the hip-hop/pop mix was making me a little insane. After he left the store the owner went on a whole trash talking spree about us right in front of me and my daughter. The curated selection here are made from independent and local designers. I don't like to shop at department stores and always prefer small shops like these. You never know what cool a$$ one-of-a-kind pieces you might find. Kelly greeted me warmly and asked me multiple times if I needed help. Even when I was in the dressing room she called out to me to ask if everything I got was fitting well. Here is my fashion advice...always try on the pieces, even the one you are hesitating on. One of the tops I was questioning turned out to be the one I loved the most. When I told Kelly that I am always on the hunt for sheer tops, she showed me a few other pieces on the rack. She even showed me one of the tops she was wearing on her iPhone to give me a visual. Lol. I found the top I wanted for an upcoming concert...Cannons. Since leaving the store I am feeling regretful that I didn't get the leather belt and bag that I kept eyeing. That bag was sick!! But I will definitely stop by again in the near future. HOWEVER, major turn off: sales girls following you around ! I am just like Molly M., I can stay in a store for a long time but not this one because they are just hawking you. I once was trying on something in the fitting room and I wanted to come out and show my boyfriend but when I first peeked my head out, there were 2 sales girls also waiting outside staring at my door! too awkward for me, so i bought it without showing him. Is it bad for me to say this ? But being that it's an asian owned/worked store, it's kind of normal that they follow you around like that -__- I've had many of these experiences.. even in Bangkok.
