Shan Xi Magic Kitchen specializes in hand-pulled Northwestern Chinese comfort food. I am a from…read moreXian and am always on the hunt for Shaanxi food especially paomo and hand pulled Biang Biang noodles. The space inside is casual and straightforward, though it definitely gets packed fast during peak hours because locals know how good the food is. Looking at the spread we got, everything hits the spot. We started with the spicy sliced pork ears, which are super tender with a nice crunch and tossed in a bold chili oil and cilantro mix. For the mains, you come here for the noodles and they honestly never miss. The hand-ripped noodles are incredible--super thick, chewy, and served in massive bowls loaded with tender beef, brisket, or tripe. Whether you get the clear, savory broth or the spicy chili oil version, the portions are huge and the noodles have that perfect fresh-pulled texture.  Service was the real problem and I can't give them too much grace after our experience. They gave us all our food at a snail pace and was still missing one person's entree. After 20-30 minutes of waiting for his food, we asked the waitress to check on it and after going to the kitchen, she came back to tell us they ran out of that dish (beef paomo). At that point the rest of the table had pretty much finished their food as it's been about 45 minutes since we ordered. That was incredibly unprofessional. No apology, no offers to make it right. Just a "what would you like instead, sir". I loved the food but this type of scenario is not acceptable and I likely won't be back.

The menu is extensive. They also offer good rice dishes. I think the portion size is fairly generous (I had Pho Cao Cali recently and Tim Ky def gives more food.). Combination wonton noodle $15.69 - comes with fish balls, pork, chicken, and shrimp! Good if you like everything. Wonton noodle soup $14.79 - comes with some charsiu pieces! Yang chow fried rice $16.49 - I thought it was great with the jalapeño vinegar sauce that is at every table. Beef Chow fun $15.99 - I recommend to make it wet style + $1 with "gravy". This was served piping hot and was still hot when I put the leftovers in the box! Service is good. Interior is very simple. No decor or art. Bathroom available. Credit card is accepted. Plenty of parking. They're located in the corner next to Valerio's. Note: they were out of pennywort juice when I visited on a Saturday.

I especially like their dry noodles with chicken and their bo bia. Both taste very nostalgic and home-ly which is a high regard.

Love the indoor, outdoor seating, it had great seating options. The decor is amazing too, definitely shows and shares some culture and history about the place. The food was great for what me and my man had ordered, ESPECIALLY the wings! They're supposedly spicy (since it had an option to choose 'have lesser spice') but wasn't spicy at all. It was some of the best garlic flavored wings I've had by far. My man had the short ribs which were perfectly flavored and tender and I chose the sizzling fish. I liked the fish, it was a very nice size dish but unfortunately I had to trade it in because I was feeling uneasy. (My personal reasons, had nothing to do with the dish itself) although I did hope for it to be more fried than what it was, maybe that's why I felt it to be a texture thing with me that day.. plus being nauseous the earlier morning...I guess I needed something more solid.... With that said, they gladly traded my meal for a second option, beef plate... and that was just perfect. Comes with miso and a side salad and rice. I got extra salad since my fish already had rice. They were amazing for catering to my request and needs. I'm truly grateful for their kind services. I'm definitely going back to try more off their menu.

After circling several times, we finally found a spot about two blocks away. Once we arrived, we were immediately seated. Our server brought over waters and the menus, and I was a little overwhelmed by all the options but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We decided on the pan-seared crispy noodles with beef and egg rolls. I also ordered a Spritz to accompany my meal. I wasn't a big fan of the crispy noodles, but my husband loved them. The flavor itself was really good but there was something about the texture of the crispy noodle that wasn't my jam. The egg rolls, though, were fantastic. They were perfectly crunchy and flavorful. There are so many other dishes on the menu that caught my eye, so I will definitely come back to try some of their other options.
