As are most accommodations in Switzerland, the youth hostel is pretty expensive. Regardless, it is an ideal hostel and a great place to spend your time in Basel. The checkin process was digitized and efficient, the staff were nice,…read moremost of the amenities were good, they have an all-you-can-eat breakfast for 12.50 Euros, the train station is close, the cafe is comfortable and modern, there are local craft beers, there is good mural art on the walls of the courtyard, etc. Pretty much everything was good, except for the fact that the only way to charge your phone in the bedroom was with a USB Port, which I do not feel comfortable with since it is less safe. The lockers were also too small. Other than that, all was great! I came in July for one night. Anyway, this is a great accommodation and clean, too!

There are different types of rooms available to suit different needs. The single room has a sink which helps a lot. The only shared place is toilet and the shower. I didn't see anyone using it while I was there. Check in and check out is on the phone. But they is staff at the café to answer any questions if you need help. The only downside of this place is the room sometimes smells like toilet. But there is a big window so I don't mind too much.

The crowd kept to themselves, probably because this hostel is so big, the common area does not facilitate interaction (which is a flip side of a large, spacious common area). It welcomes guests of all ages, unlike some which (try to) enforce (relative) youth in guests. A good breakfast with a good spread is included in the price (there're even some local products), and it starts at 6am! Lunch & dinner are also available at reasonable prices (for Switzerland). The room was quite roomy. The power socket was really near bed - just above it, though it was recessed as is common in Switzerland so not all power adaptors will be able to use it. The lockers were both in the room and large.

However, one thing that concerned us were, surprise parking fee which was not mentioned before. Overall it's pricey but maybe worth it!
