I didn't end up having any service done but that is because I was told I didn't need any. And they were right. I was traveling from out of state and had been doing a lot of high elevation driving up and down to Brian Head, UT and was sitting with the engine running for a long time when I started to drive again the transmission stuttered from a stop. I turned off the can and let it cool for 15 mins and the issue didn't happen again. Worried for my trip back up the mountain and then back home 400 miles away, I took it to Steve's Shell. He checked the fluid and let me know the fluid was good and that everything looked fine and that I should be fine. Turned out he was right. I had no issues going back up the mountain over 9000 ft elevation and no issues returning home over 400 miles away at the end of my travels. I was in town for the Shakespeare festival and my emergency brake would not disengage. I called several places including the Ford dealership. Every single place I called, I was told nobody could help me until Monday. I called Steve's and I spoke to a guy (my apologies I do not remember his name), he asked where I was and that he was on the way. When I was towed in to Steve's Shell on a Sunday evening after the car became disabled, I had about 12 hours before the 7am opening time to fret about how badly things would go. (It didn't help that the movie at the motel was about a family traveling through a small, out-of-state town with California license plates who broke down and got taken to the cleaners by a six-fingered repairman.) So when I arrived at the shop 5 minutes before opening time, I was nervous. No need whatsoever. In no time at all, the car was on the lift, and Fred was quick to point out the problem, the likely cause, and both short- and long-term solutions. Ten minutes later I was out the door with both my wallet and my vehicle in fighting shape. To be fair, I'm not anxious to break down on the I-15 again anytime soon, but should lightning strike again within AAA's towing radius, I know where to go! Thanks again, Fred! read more

Highly highly recommend this car repair!!! We were traveling though Cedar City with our camper when our truck started having problems (engine cutting out a minute after starting). Called 6 other places that all said they were booked solid and couldn't see us for at least 3 days and we were afraid to drive without having the truck checked. It was a holiday weekend. Steve's Shell responded to our Yelp request first and when I spoke with the man on the phone he talked me through the issue (which he told me was likely fuel related and very minor) and told me I could come by right away and he'd check it out. I did--didn't even have to unhitch the trailer--he finished checking the truck for problems in under 20 minutes, didn't even charge me for the service, and sold me the product I needed to help with the fuel for a total of $16. I really appreciated his honesty and straightforward advice. No nonsense and very efficient! The truck drove beautifully for our whole two-day desert drive home. Ultimately we didn't need a lot of service but knowing we're safe to drive before a two-day trip through the desert with a trailer in 100 degree heat is a big deal! Thank you!! read more

It is really nice to have mechanics you can trust when you don't know much about cars. Fred Jr. is the kind of guy that really cares about making sure your car is running and you can get where you are going when you need to. He even offered to help me on his day off and I could name countless times he has worked with me when I was stuck at work and could not bring my car to the station. I think it is really important to focus on good reviews and if you have a problem with a small business, you should contact them before leaving a negative review. My experience here was extremely positive. My truck stopped working as I was traveling north on I-15 and I had it towed to steve's shell. We were there this morning at 8:45am. Being Sunday, the hours posted on the door says they open at 10am.. it was cool out so we waited. During that time, I read the reviews, all good!! So that was a wonderful piece of info. We thought we needed a flat repaired. **A Good Samaritan named Lester had changed our flat earlier that morning. So there we sat waiting. The young man appeared right on time. He took care of another gentleman whose needs were small then talked with my husband.. Did I say we were traveling with 3 medium to large dogs, all parked in the back area of our 4door pick up?? Anyway, it turns out that we had a rim on our used truck that had been welded improperly after some mishap in the past. It broke its weld causing the tire to flatten. We were shown this & what was needed for a satisfactory & safe fix. We didn't get the young man's name but he was personable & knowledgable. We arrived home with no further mishap & will have it replaced or fixed this week.
